Help me - I'm having 10 inches cut off my hair at lunchtime today and NEED a style now!

I'm going from very long to pretty short, losing a minimum 10 inches. Probably all I'll have left to work with is a shortish layered bob. I really want to take a nice pic in with me to the salon, but most pics I find tend to be a bit 'out there', and not something you'd wear in real life. Unless you only have one functioning eye and don't mind the other being fully obscured by your 'do'.

I'd love something versatile that can go from a bit funky / messy / choppy, (e.g. Meg Ryan in the 90's) to elegant and classic with a flick of the tongs (I'm thinking 40's retro wavy chic).

Ha.

Obviously I'll end up with some heinous 70's shag or a tragic mumcut whatever I ask for, but still, if you have any links to images I'd be very grateful.

Thanks Custardo - deffo on the right track. Perhaps not the sleek bob with blunt fring as I suspect I'd look a bit chinmongous (um, strong bone structure) but the choppier ones are great.

I'm wetting myself with fright at the prospect, of course. Actually that may be more to do with being 30 weeks pregnant, to be fair.

poshs new do?

VerityBrulee · 25/11/2009 10:42

I love this haircut

verylittlecarrot · 25/11/2009 10:59

yes - I like both those! I do worry that to carry off the messier styles you need perfect makeup and outfit (and face) to avoid looking like a ragamuffin.

I'm doomed, I think.

You speak wise words, tmmj.

However I've been growing my hair most of this year to be able to cut off the 10 inches (I'm donating the hair) and I need to find the cahoonas to do this. I'll be most ashamed of myself if I chicken out. My hair grows a good inch every couple of months so I keep telling myself I can grow it back if I hate it.

I will, of course, cry. I haven't had short hair for 24 years. Oh my, I just had to check my maths then. Jeez, I'm older than I realised.

I also heard you shouldn't have a drastic do while preg. - I regretted mine when preg when with DS2.

If you do though, I could do with another 10 inches on mine.

Bellabonjovi - that is the one. Dear hairdresser. Make me look like that please.

tmmj, to a UK charity that makes wigs for children who've lost hair through illness.

Oh well done, you, for donating, vlc. Very good cause.

Hope you're pleased with your haircut

verylittlecarrot · 25/11/2009 12:15

Right, I'm off. Wish me luck. And be ready with tea and sympathy later, ladies...

verylittlecarrot · 25/11/2009 21:45

for a very limited time only, before and after pics on my profile. It's a little too Hilary Clinton right now, but tomorrow I'll de-bouff it and do something flicky and messy with it to see how it looks.

I didn't cry.
(although I did sniffle a bit just afterwards worrying about the swine flu jab I went on to have after the hair appointment)

Thanks to all who gave me ideas. Be kind with your verdicts now, I'm fragile.

i LOVE it. what a gorgeous colour your hair is. i don't think it's clintonish at all, just swingy and sproingy and flattering and modern.

JamInMyWellies · 25/11/2009 21:49

MrsMattie · 25/11/2009 21:50

didn't realise that you were making a wig with it, lucky person who gets your lush hair.
