Cashmere socks - Would you appreciate being given them as a present?

I am thinking about getting my sister-in-law cashmere bed sock type things for her birthday but wasnt sure if this was just something I would fancy or if other people would appreciate them too? Not sure which ones yet but was thinking the White Company would probably do nice ones. Thanks for helping.

Yes They are one of those things that you would never buy but when you are given a pair it is pure luxury esp after a bath they are so comfy and warm.Brora do them but £

PrettyCandles · 16/11/2009 10:25

If she has cold feet, then yes - a lovely gift.

(But OTOH, most of the time when I wear socks in bed it's because I've got footcream on. Would definitely not wear cashmere with footcream! Do you know whether she suffers from cracked heels etc?)

zanz1bar · 16/11/2009 10:26

Oh yes get them.
I have given cashmere socks as a present to family and friends. Its one of those gifts you are not going to understand at all until the moment you think oh what the hell I might as well try them on.

Carrotfly · 16/11/2009 10:28

Yes Yes Yes !!!
My sister has bought me 2 pairs now from the White company. They are lovely. Not something you would buy yourself, but lovely to receive as a gift.

You cant walk about in them much tho, they tend to wear through on the heels. Or maybe thats my big heavy feet.

She also bought me the cashmere gloves once but they were totally impractical as got very grubby very quickly and were hand wash only.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 16/11/2009 10:28

Oh yes I would love some of these as a present

PheasantPlucker · 16/11/2009 10:29

I would love you forever!

dexter73 · 16/11/2009 10:29

They are a lovely gift but I agree with Carrotfly that they do wear through very quickly on the heels ( and I pedegg my heels regularly!).

LetThemEatCake · 16/11/2009 10:30

Cashmere is a nice idea, I'd probably go for wristwarmers though - maybe like these - not sure how much you wanted to spend.

LetThemEatCake · 16/11/2009 10:33

I love my wristwarmers too - gorgeous prsent. Get the Pure ones with the 25% discount!!

VerityBrulee · 16/11/2009 10:35

I buy White Company cashmere socks in ebay for about 15 pounds, they are lovely

Thelongroadhome · 16/11/2009 10:42

Thanks everyone. Now I'm going to add them to my Christmas list! Is there any difference between White Co, Pure and cheaper Brora ones? I'm guessing she would wear them lounging about rather than in bed. Thanks again.

VerityBrulee · 16/11/2009 10:46

I haven't tried the others, but the white co ones are very thick and soft. I have bought several pairs and I'm fussy about my cashmere!

LetThemEatCake · 16/11/2009 10:49

I've got Brora and they are thick and luxurious. I bought the Pure ones for various people and they seem to be slightly more functional. Like, you could wear them as socks. My Brora ones are unmistakably bedsocks, iyswim

zanz1bar · 16/11/2009 10:52

Top Tip, I get mens socks(sometimes cheaper) as they do shrink a bit when you wash them.

I have one pair of red mens cashmere socks that have felted but still fit and are the best, warmest, softest socks in the world.

Thelongroadhome · 16/11/2009 10:53

LTEC are they the dear Brora ones (out of my budget) or the cheaper ones? Thanks.

Carrotfly · 16/11/2009 11:52

Verity what kind of packaging do the ebay ones come in ? I've only ever had mine boxed from the shop. Thanks !

VerityBrulee · 16/11/2009 12:54

They are not boxed. IIRC they have a white co. cardboard band around them.

Carrotfly · 16/11/2009 13:07

Oh yes I know what you mean. Thanks.

Just bought some

VerityBrulee · 16/11/2009 13:10

Enjoy

BarackObamasTransitVan · 16/11/2009 13:47

DP bought some from Toast for his mother - all three of his sisters attempted to steal them. So yes, cashmere socks are goooooood

JANEITEisntErudite · 16/11/2009 18:00

OMG yes I would LOVE some. Go for it and send me a pair whilst you're at it, eh?!).

wahwah · 16/11/2009 18:10

YES! the white company ones are lovely and much appreciated as gifts.

NorksDrift · 16/11/2009 18:16

But don't you have to handwash them? [lazy emoticon]

aweaninamanger · 16/11/2009 18:20

are they not hand wash only? only a matter of time before they end up in the washing machine and come out like a babies or is that just me ?
