Cashmere socks - Would you appreciate being given them as a present?

I am thinking about getting my sister-in-law cashmere bed sock type things for her birthday but wasnt sure if this was just something I would fancy or if other people would appreciate them too? Not sure which ones yet but was thinking the White Company would probably do nice ones. Thanks for helping.

yes, lovely

seeker · 16/11/2009 18:22

Can you get stripy ones anywhere? My dd (worrying expensive tastes at 13!) is desperate for some!

BarackObamasTransitVan · 16/11/2009 19:02

Seeker, these ones from Hush are angora mix apparently - and stripey.

JJ · 16/11/2009 19:30

I put mine in the washing machine from time to time and they've come to no harm. They're a couple years old. I'm sure it's not helping though. Mine are from, erm, White Company or Pure, I can't remember which. Or maybe Hush? Not Brora because I wanted more socky socks. (Sorry, not helpful!)

What I really really want now are some cashmere leg warmers (not long socks) for wearing under nightgowns and loose pj bottoms.

For White Company, the code A4D2 gives you 10% off under £75 / 15% off over £75.

LetThemEatCake · 16/11/2009 20:36

oi JJ, you mean like these??

or would these do you??

LetThemEatCake · 16/11/2009 20:38

thelongroad - sorry, i missed your question. Don't think mine are either of the ones currently available, they are over-knee and were about £95 full price, although of course i bought them in the sale!

Thelongroadhome · 16/11/2009 20:53

OMG I never thought about having to handwash them. Will the handwash programme on the washing machine do?? Do you think its only on Style & Beauty that people love them or on any old Christmassy thread??!!

I don't do handwashing, thats why I get mens cashmere socks that are bigger so they can shrink a bit and still be wearable.

jemart · 16/11/2009 21:10

They are top of my wishlist.
I would love some 100% cashmere ones, I only have 20% cashmere blend socks a the moment but even those are fantastic! so soft, so warm!

I machine wash and tumble dry mine. They shrink a bit and go all fluffy.

seeker · 16/11/2009 21:21

Letthemeatcake - thigh-high legwarmers are deeply worrying - whatever they are made of!

JJ · 16/11/2009 21:36

Oh those thigh high legwarmers are, erm, lovely, I'm sure. But not on me, eek. The second ones are closer to what I'm after.

I bought some new fingerless gloves today at Area 142 as mine are moth eaten and holey, sob. They're not cashmere though, they're wool/acrylic but I loved them; I tried them on thinking that I wouldn't. I'm still going to get a new pair from Brora though, they're so comforting. Earlier this year, I got these thin gloves to go under them for really cold days where I need my fingers covered and that works well.

Prettycandles, when I put on footcream at night, I use these M&S socks. I love them nearly as much as the cashmere. They're so soft and fluffy, sigh.

LetThemEatCake · 16/11/2009 22:03

I wash mine in a bag on the handwash cycle - no shrinkage, no fluffle.

purplepeony · 17/11/2009 13:48

Just wanted to say that I ordered a pair from the ebay site yesterday afernoon- and they have come today! Brilliant! They have the WC label and the £25 price tag ( which is removable) and are in a plastic bag too.
Great service.

Carrotfly · 17/11/2009 15:09

Thats just what I was coming on to say PP. On my doorstep within 24 hours !!

I'm really pleased as they are for a gift for my BF. Hope she likes them as much as you lot seem to !
