Last week DP and I decided to elope to our wedding destination 10 months before we had planned to and without family etc being there. I thought I had found a gorgeous dress but it was the wrong size and too much money. I have been thinking about this and had been going to wear a cocktail style dress. But I have changed my mind and I really do want a more traditional style dress. So this is what I love please help me find this for 500 GBP and under oh and I need it asap wedding date 29th January 2010.

Its lovely....but

I hope you are a size 8 or less with no lumps or bumps because I should imagine its probably the most unforgiving dress in the history of woman kind and will cling to every piece of you..

Also you'll freeze.

Will go and have a look for you though.

Best bet would be to find a dress maker to make it for you?

Tillyscoutsmum · 05/11/2009 21:50

Jam- that is beautiful

I know I linked to some before, but really don't rule out bridesmaid dresses. You can obviously have them in any colour (including ivory), the order time on them is about 10-12 weeks max and even the real nice/more expensive ones are usually around £300 ish.

I love this one

JamInMyWellies · 05/11/2009 21:51

Spanx from head to toe.

largeginandtonic · 05/11/2009 21:52

Jam it is beautiful

It would suit you so well.

She is a hot blonde and has a great figure.

I will look!

geordieminx · 05/11/2009 21:54

My comment was aimed at Tilly btw.

I did exactly the same btw - was going to get married in monsoon/coast dress.... ended up in full bridal, veil, the whole 9 yards - and soooo pleased I did - you can wear a cocktail dress anytime - you'll only get one opportunity to wear a wedding dress hopefully

Tillyscoutsmum · 05/11/2009 21:56

another one

And fancy seeing you here Mrs geordie

JamInMyWellies · 05/11/2009 21:56

Don't have a dress to suggest but sending my biggest congratulations to you.

My DP and are eloping too, in 2 weeks time (after spending the last 19 years together) I am sooooo excited and so far have managed to keep it a secret.

Good luck I am sure it will be a very special day for you x

VerityBrulee · 05/11/2009 21:57

J Crew have beautiful wedding dresses here

Would you wait and buy a dress when you get there? Or buy online, they don't ship outside the US, but there are a few companies who will ship it for you.

cookielove · 05/11/2009 21:57

similar

largeginandtonic · 05/11/2009 21:58

this site has some cool vintage dresses

Tillyscoutsmum · 05/11/2009 21:59

A lot of UK shops will stock Jim Hjelm (google Jim Hjelm uk and you should be able to get a stockist list). You can then ring around and try and find one that's got that particular dress to try on and then they'll order it in the right size/colour for you (they may even order a sample if they haven't got one already).

You can order direct from US I think but obviously don't get to try on and I don't think they accept returns because they're made to order, so its a bit riskier

JamInMyWellies · 05/11/2009 22:00

what do you reckon to this one

OP posts:
geordieminx · 05/11/2009 22:00

J crew tatiana is very similar

Rindercella · 05/11/2009 22:02

My wedding dress was actually a Dessy bridesmaid dress similar to the one Tilly linked to. I ordered it in a local wedding dress shop, it got made in the States and shipped over (only just made it in time though!). So, see if you can find a UK stockist close to you and you should be fine - just give yourself lots of time.

JamInMyWellies · 05/11/2009 22:03

J crew could work my little sis lives in San Fran and is coming home for Christmas so theoretically she could bring it back for me......

largeginandtonic · 05/11/2009 22:04

Lovely Jam!

KristinaM · 05/11/2009 22:05

thats similar to my wedding dress, except i had long sleeves and a v neck and back ( also winter wedding). I had a local dressmaker make it up in silk crepe, cut on the bias

and yes, i was a size 8 and no lumps and bumps. no spanx needed. sadly not the same many babies later

JamInMyWellies · 05/11/2009 22:07

what about this lush

OP posts:
Tillyscoutsmum · 05/11/2009 22:09

geordieminx · 05/11/2009 22:09

VerityBrulee · 05/11/2009 22:09
