Right then mumsnetters. DP and I were going to get married next October in NY with family and friends in attendance. We realised last night that it was already becomming a circus. So we are going to do it in January. Still in NY but with only with our DS' and my BF and her DH as our witnesses.

Please please help with finding outfits appropriate for a NY freezing January wedding.

They dont have to be traditional but no wacky outfits please. I would prefer classy I do not want my sons dressed in identical outfits and I will not put them in suits or ties.

Thanks all

What a BRILLIANT plan! I have no style so I'll back out now doing excited clapping

JamInMyWellies · 26/10/2009 21:13

Is there no one out there. Jeans and jumper it is then.

I'm saving to go to NYC in January 2027. Can you postpone till then?

Have you any idea what you want to wear yourself?

I am RIDICULOUSLY pleased for you. Will you have a party when you come back?

JamInMyWellies · 26/10/2009 21:19

I will and you are invited.

Honestly dont really know obviously it is going to be vvv low key so a proper dress is out of the question but. I am useless at this sort of thing. I would be most comfy in my jeans. But dont want to do smart trousers either. I do have a rather beautiful shearling short fur coat thing which I think would look quite good but I cant just wear that.

Do you want outfits for your DSes or you? Why don't you put them in lovely thick jumpers and wide whale cord trousers. Different colours. I think you should wear a velvet dress, tights and shortie biker boots

IControlSandwichMonkey · 26/10/2009 21:27

look

A waterproof skirt. Very practical.

What am I doing here, I know nowt about style or beauty.

I do like a good wedding party though.

IControlSandwichMonkey · 26/10/2009 21:34

I LOVE this dress

Funky boots, fur jacket.

Ewe · 26/10/2009 21:42

Emily and Fin always have pretty dresses.

How exciting! I love New York, where are you actually going to get married?

JamInMyWellies · 26/10/2009 21:45

Like the first site. Not really my cup of tea the second one but I think that dress would look lovely on you.

OP posts:
Ewe · 26/10/2009 21:46

Could I possibly tempt you with this?

I have visions of a fur coat, pretty dress, long gloves, opaque tights, cute shoes and a long cigarette holder.

Tillyscoutsmum · 26/10/2009 21:49

Oooooh - Jam - how exciting

I'm thinking 1950's style - something like this with fur coat

JamInMyWellies · 26/10/2009 21:51

EWE thats a nice site more like that thankyou.

We were going to do it in the Conservatory Gardens but it might be a wee bit too cold so may well end up in the W hotel then we can retire the cocktail bar and drink apple martinis all night. Not sure what we will do with the children though.

Scary need outfits for myself and the boys. DP will just buy a suit.

Yes that dress would look damn good on me. I'm not shopping for you, I'm shopping for me. I'm having a celebratory my lovely Jam is getting married shop. Wouldn't dare to offer style or beauty advice.

1940s/50s glam would suit you though. Especially with your new hair.

Have I mentioned I'm excited for you?

JamInMyWellies · 26/10/2009 21:54

Ooh thats nice Tilly. Hows the SPD?

JeMeSouviens · 26/10/2009 21:55

How exciting, it sounds FAB!

here is a place on etsy that has loads of 1950s style, some pricey, some reasonable.

wishing I had somewhere to wear these

SCARYspicemonster · 26/10/2009 21:56

Wear this with pink tights and boots and your coat. You will look fab!

JamInMyWellies · 26/10/2009 21:56

EWE sadly my corned beef legs would do a dis service to that ruffle number.

OP posts:
IControlSandwichMonkey · 26/10/2009 21:58

Look you could have a theme. The theme could be I'm one of those frou frou things old people put on toilet rolls and pretend they're not there.

Gawd, fashion's weird.

Ewe · 26/10/2009 22:01

I would wear this! If I lost a few stone first It's very versatile.

The ruffle number is possibly a little hard to pull off!

You lucky thing getting to do all of this lovely shopping, so exciting!

JANEITEPatrickNormanMcHennesy · 26/10/2009 22:07

Departing totally from the white 50s styles but:

here for red VW one

Or this with a fab coat?

AngryPixie · 26/10/2009 22:20

Budget for your dress, before I get too carried away?

JamInMyWellies · 27/10/2009 06:47

Sorry had to disappear to sort out a teething snot monster.

I really like that tarten VW I am Scottish though would it be a bit twee to wear tarten to my wedding?

Angry pixie I dont have a budget DP has said he is happy for me to spend a bit. Think he is more excited about me wearing a dress rather than jeans that he doesnt mind.

JamInMyWellies · 27/10/2009 06:50

EWE that Ghost one is lush.

Icontrolsandwichmonkey, maybe not.

Themasterandmargaritas · 27/10/2009 08:31

I could see you in this but it may be just too ordinary? I love the tartan idea.....
