I don't "get" Boden stuff.............

I shopped with Ocado for the first time yesterday - as it wasn't a huge shop so actually came in under my budget.

Along with my order today came a Boden Autumn 2009 catalogue.......I've just looked through it all and I think it's all hideous.

If I had a girl I may be tempted to dress them in some of the stuff (in girls sizes obviously) - but I really don't see the attraction for women - especially not at those prices!!!

Am I missing something really obvious, can someone explain the garish colours and styles to me..........

I don't 'get' it for the reason you mentioned - I don't want to remortgage to buy a new wardrobe.

even if I could afford any of the stuff I would' t buy it as I don't like the look of any of it

it's way beyond my budgie but i can see the appeal, nice colours, different designs etc.

probably a bit ott to dress head to toe in it.

it's convenient and they have a good returns policy unlike a lot of high street stores (check out the LK Bennett thread as an example)

It washes fine and if it doesn't you can send it back.

It's good value in the numerous sales and discounts and the cashmere stuff is quite bargainous in the sale.

Oh god I don't get the appeal of boden at all either.

It's like a uniform for dull mummies trying to be 'trendy'.

they're the sort of colours my BF's DD (who is nearly 10) likes to wear as combinations - it looks nice on her.........but she's nearly 10........not 30 something

although I should say there's one top in there that i'm 99% certain my DS1's best friend's mother has - she wears it quite frequently - may have to examine more closely when I next see her

I'm still shopping in topshop, oasis, miss selfridge etc. I had a look at boden after seeing it mentioned on here, it looked a bit, erm, middle aged to me.

Is it some special mummy uniform? i am trying my best not to buy an anorak - I noticed that all of my neighbours bought an anorak as soon as they had DC haha!

just had a quick nose through the website, cheapest dress on the page im on is £59 and baby rompers £22 for 2

is this stuff really good quality or am i a real penny pincher? at these prices i would be wearing the same outfit over and over til its threadbare and DS would be living in the rompers until hes in school uniform as I would'nt be buying much else!

Tis very expensive, and not unlike the high st, tbh.

I don't get it either. I expected it to be much more desirable stuff, the way people talk about it! Have tried to understand the appeal (thought I must be missing something as there are so many Boden fans on MN) but I just can't get excited about any of it.

Clearly, on mn at least, analysing the complex allure of Boden, it's meaning, it's power, it's circulation, has the compelling urgency religious questions exerted in earlier communities.

Undoubtedly, the effect will ripple out and you will, at some point in the near future, be able to take a course on a cultural studies MA somewhere; "The Meaning of Boden in early C20 Britain".

We will all be off to a flying start; distinctions all round.

Thing is with expensive high street shops (not that we have any in our town) I can look in them and think "oh yea - some of that stuff is really nice, and if I had the money I'd buy it"......

But I just can't see it with Boden at all.

And maybe we do have this thread ever week - but I've never looked a the Boden website, and it was only thanks to Ocado that I've ever looked at any of their stuff.

I get what Woozlet is saying. I shop in most of the places she does even though I'm nearly 20 years older than her. I also like Great Plains, Fahri and Fat Face. I must point out I'm not trying to be trendy. In fact thinking about it I've never been trendy, ever! I don't cover myself head to toe in, say , Topshop but I don't want to dress like my mum. (who happens wears Boden and she is nearly 70)
Boden can look a bit well twee I suppose at times. I tend to get DS1 and DS2's clothes from Fat Face, Animal, Ben Sherman, Timberland, Sprayway and The North Face.
Anyway it's horses for courses. Buy what you like and can afford IMO

The odd thing I like, but it is overpriced imo. I wouldn't say never, ever, but unless I happened to be able to get something (that rare thing) I did like from their range in the sale, then no,,,,,,

Jajas, I have that policy when I shop in Next!! a much maligned shop but if you avoid patterned stuff the quality and cut is good I think. I do HATE when you leave the house and see 3 people in one morning wearing the same top. argh.
