Nail Polish - can anyone recommend a brand that applies well, dries fast and looks good for more than just 1 day

I have tried expensive ones, cheap one, and lots inbetween.

Any suggestions?

And do I really have to do several coats? I hate that, it always smudges.

I'm no expert and only a toe painter.
I like the Rimmel 60 second stuff. Dries quickly (as the name suggests) and I only do one coat.
Seems to last a while even though I'm often bare foot and a frequent toe stubber.

nails inc but only the lighter shades ime!

buffing nails and beveling the edges are meant to help too

purplepeony · 08/10/2009 09:07

Ditto above- Rimmel seems to work and is cheap.

Tillyscoutsmum · 08/10/2009 09:09

Chanel is the best I've tried (and I'm not normally a sucker for expensive products). It just goes on like a dream though - especially if you keep it in the fridge

MmeGoblindt · 08/10/2009 09:12

I bought Chanel in the summer and it has gone all stodgy. Don't know what happened there. Will try the fridge next time.

I hope I can get Rimmel here, will look when I go shopping.

Creative Nail Design is fab, but only available in salons, not Boots etc.

Only needs 2 coats-but the key with all nail polish is to lave enough time between coats, otherwise the bottom one isn't dry, and you inevitably end up buggering ti up.

LibrasBiscuitsOfFortune · 08/10/2009 09:21

Another vote for Chanel here, but I find No 7 quite good as well.

Tillyscoutsmum · 08/10/2009 09:22

Keeping any of them in the fridge really does help - prevents them getting clumpy

SoonInTheSunshine · 08/10/2009 09:23

I use the Avon nail polish, not expensive, and really does last. I do tend to do two coats although I think you could probably get away with one!

SardineJam · 08/10/2009 09:38

Can definitely recommend Rimmel, even with hands in and out of water all day. To be fair I wasnt impressed with Bourjois, despite claiming in the name to be 1 second drying, its 60 seconds but took longer than this to dry and needed a double coat

101handbags · 08/10/2009 10:00

I am a nail varnish addict and have tried loads of brands as well. In my opinion the best one is Revlon, every time. Goes on really smoothly and lasts.

ABitBatty · 08/10/2009 10:03

I add my vote for Rimmel too. Had it on my toes recently...lasted for AGES!

OnlyWantsOneFartleBerry · 08/10/2009 10:06

Im a rimmel girl - have the whole collection. Love the 60 second stuff.

I find if you put a base coat on (obv on well filled and buffed nails) then 1st coat of colour - leave for 5 mins till very dry then 2nd coat.

Once this is completely dry - I add a layer of gloss over the top.

I did mine on Friday night - and I only have one small chip. (Think its rimmel perfect plum)

I dont like number 7 as it takes an age to dry.

mumzy · 08/10/2009 16:42

boots no7 stay perfect range

whoisasking · 08/10/2009 16:44

Chanel, Chanel, Chanel.

or NARS.

lilysam · 08/10/2009 18:03

Rimmel here too! Put it one while reading a book in bed, or before dashing out and it dries in no time. Lasts ages too

bodycolder · 08/10/2009 18:04

OPI

poppy34 · 08/10/2009 18:12

Reckon or Essie if you want to splurge

CybilLiberty · 08/10/2009 18:15

I've always rated Rimmel, with top coat .OPI also good, as long as top coat applied

FABIsInTraining · 08/10/2009 18:19

Rimmel 60 second is crap as it goes gloopy unless you use it all up in a short space of time.

I despair of ever finding a polish that is easy to apply, dries fairly quickly and lasts more than a minute or ten.

Sally Hansen is the only one I bother with. Well worth the extra pennies.

mum2bagain · 08/10/2009 22:20

Jessica - I swear by it. Mostly used in salons but you can buy it from the salon!!

chimchar · 08/10/2009 22:24

i like no7 too.

my fave is max factor...it came free in a magazine in the summer...its fab! lasts for ages on my toes and goes on really nicely. two thin coats gives good deep colour in the red polish i have.
