Are they worth the money?

Gorgeous coat, really warm, fab colours and lovely fit
BUT the fabric did bobble really quickly and I spent ages last year pulling fluffy bits off it. Dd had green last time and it did look lovely, and I have ordered this years version in purple, despite my reservations about the material.

LynetteScavo · 24/08/2009 20:31

Is it dry clean only?

OP posts:
PinkTulips · 24/08/2009 20:32

oooo, i've been eying up the grey for dd but couldn't decide from the pics if it was worth the cash.

You might have swayed me though Crack, what' the sizing like, generous or smallish?

MoreCrackThanHarlem · 24/08/2009 20:35

Ok, well I find the sizing fits to age, although dd is tall and slim.
Yes Lynette, tis unfortunately dry clean only, but to be fair it only needed doing twice as the colours are rich and deep and hide the dirt. Not sure about the grey though, it looks quite pale so may need more frequent cleaning.

MoreCrackThanHarlem · 24/08/2009 20:38

Oh, and it has a button fastener at the back so it can be made a slimmer fit if needed.

LynetteScavo · 24/08/2009 20:39

I'm thinking of they grey for school.

OP posts:
MoreCrackThanHarlem · 24/08/2009 20:43

I quite fancied the orange but dh vetoed it. Haven't received the purple yet but it looks a gorgeous cadbury purple in the pics.
Grey is nice, but I would be worried about it needing frequent dry cleaning. If you're feeling brave you could risk a wool wash, I reckon.

PinkTulips · 24/08/2009 20:47

yeah i was tempted by orange but i just think the grey would suit dd better, and be a bit less 'visually prominant' in our sleepy village school

joliejolie · 24/08/2009 21:05

I bought the grey one last year and it bobbled so terribly. It may as well have been from a cheap shop the way it looked after a month.
I was really disappointed!

MoreCrackThanHarlem · 24/08/2009 21:12

I agree re the bobbling, but I haven't been able to find a similar duffel anywhere else. Especially one with a hood. I noticed some comments on the Boden feedback page about this issue last year, so perhaps they have resolved it this season?

MoreCrackThanHarlem · 24/08/2009 21:13

*duffle

MorrisZapp · 24/08/2009 21:23

Joules have got grown up duffle coats in navy and red. I must admit I'm v tempted! I love duffle coats.

princessmel · 24/08/2009 21:25

A little girl I know had one and it went VERY bobbly, plus the buttons came off...Looked cute though.

hoxtonchick · 24/08/2009 22:13

dd had the grey one in the sale last year. it did bobble, but not dreadfully. i washed it most weeks on the wool cycle, no problems. it will still fit her this year, so deffo worth the price in the sale.

MoreCrackThanHarlem · 24/08/2009 22:33

That's helpful to know re washing on the machine. Maybe that helps with the bobbling Hoxton?

LynetteScavo · 25/08/2009 15:12

Tahnks for the input, I've decided agains the duffle coat.
I've gone for the blue cord one for school, and will get a down one for really cold weather.

I'd dearly love DD2 to wear a duffle coat, but she tried (rather lovely and much cheaper than Boden) one on in M&S and deemed it "scratchy" and I fear this will be the case with any duffle

FlorenceandtheWashingMachine · 25/08/2009 18:55

M&S do have a gorgeous red and cream dotty one, but I still love the Boden numbers. Where we are is very cold and nothing beats the Boden duffle for cosiness. My DD is on year three of hers, so it has definitely been a good investment! The older version was less prone to being bobbly, but it was also stiffer material.

hoxtonchick · 25/08/2009 19:12

i like your name florence - it's the same as my dd's!

FlorenceandtheWashingMachine · 25/08/2009 22:52

Florence is such a lovely name, HC.

moondog · 26/08/2009 06:45

My dd's bobbled badly too and very quickly. In retrospect, should have snet it back.

LynetteScavo · 26/08/2009 10:01

If people don't send poor items back, Boden may be unaware of a problem.

tinseltot · 26/08/2009 12:07

Jesus Jones people, tis surely madness to buy a dry clean only school coat? Buy a 3 in 1 £50 north face fleece undercoat and waterproof ski jacket outter coat if want to chuck money at the school coat isssue!

LynetteScavo · 26/08/2009 13:38

tinseltot - this is the style and beauty section.

And, in our defence, I have only dry cleaned my DD's bright pink Boden duffle once (£5). After three winters it still looks good and I will defintely buy another in the sale when she needs another size, but I would never buy a paler colour for my little hooligan. I reckon that the purple coats will take one hell of a hammering before they look mucky.
