MIL - why does she do it?!!

Went round to see her yesterday and she answered the door in a matching cropped trousers and stripey top combo. Now, I know it was v hot yesterday, but MIL in nearly 60 and a good size 20 - and it did not look right. Added to that, I love cropped trousers and have several pairs, and its put me off them - they can't be that young/trendy if she wears them! She put me off combats a few years ago, wearing a 'tailored 'pair.
I know I'm being a meanie, but REALLY!

LOL i have an aunt who is 55 and she buys same clothes as my sister! If my sister sees her she wont wear them again either!!!

Pinotmum · 28/05/2005 09:23

My mum's in her 60's and we often wear similar things. She is a very trendy 60 yo but still sometimes it annoys me

hercules · 28/05/2005 09:26

Good for her!

fin54 · 28/05/2005 12:09

OK don't all shout at me at the one time but can you tell all of us ( over 40's ) what you expect us to wear, I for one don't wear belly tops or miss sixty's gear, but nor do I wear twin sets and pearl beads.

jampots · 28/05/2005 12:15

my friend who is v trendy doesnt really get on with her MIL and a few weeks ago I saw the back of my friend whom I hadnt caught up with for a while and called "Lizzie" she turned round and it was MIL dressed exactly the way my friend dresses. She was thrilled to bits but my friend was horrified!!

Fin - you're supposed to wear baggy tracksuit bottoms, flowery dressed (just below the knee) and blouses

Fin when you get to 40 you start to shop at places like Bon Marche, not New Look and Dorothy Perkins.

To be hones I dont really want to dress like my mam when Im older. She hates trousers and I never weaer skirts unless Im on the pull!

hercules · 28/05/2005 12:43

maybe your shops change due to your budget but i think you should wear the style you want to.

fin54 · 28/05/2005 12:54

Louise 1980. Not a chance of me shopping in Bon Marche for myself, I work with the elderly ( over 70's)and shop for them in Bon Marche, I hate to see women dress up as mutton, I have a daughter of 26 who would tell me ASAP if I looked ridiculess in what I am wearing, but I do wear cropped trousers and sandals, jeans & tee shirts etc etc. BUT baggy tracksuit bottoms, flowery dressed NEVER

Gwenick · 28/05/2005 12:55

have to confess I have shopping in Bon Marche ......but only for plain T-shirts

Chandra · 28/05/2005 12:56

... and considering that salaries get better with time, probably she even has more money to spend on clothes

I agree with cod. That's the second time this week

compo · 28/05/2005 13:42

louise1980 - I can't believe you say that once you're 40 you can't shop in Dortothy Perkins I can understand New Look because that is full of cheap tat but I have a very trendy 40 year old friend and she puts my 30 year old sense of style to shame!

Windermere · 28/05/2005 13:43

I thought DP was a shop for old people

compo · 28/05/2005 13:44

but Windermere do you think 40 is old?

No 40 is not old (I'm 32) but if you are 22 then I guess 40 is pretty old.

compo · 28/05/2005 13:49

I still shop in Dotty P's - some of the stuff is quite young and trendy and it was the only place round here that sold maternity clothes
