Longchamps shoppers..anyone?

anyone owned a Longchamps shopper- think they are called Pliage or similar- made of nylon with a leather flap and handles. Did you lie it? are they still fashionable? Need a large, LIGHTWEIGHT bag for day trips to carry bottle water, umbrealla etc etc.

I have 2 Le Pliage shoppers and they are fab bags. Really comfortable over the shoulder and they are waterproof. I have been caught in a fair few downpours and nothing gets through.

I have a large dark brown one I could sell if you want it. I use my blue more often, so it is like new. Bought it for £59 from John Lewis. So £30 if you're interested.

moondog · 28/07/2009 15:15

I've got one.
I like it.
Dunno whether fahionable or not and don't care.

Lilymaid · 28/07/2009 15:17

I've got an anthracite Pliage. Large and lightweight, but no dividers inside so you can't separate out the contents of the bag. Not sure whether the cost is particularly justified for a bit of synthetic material with leather handles.

joliejolie · 28/07/2009 15:18

Nor do I!

spicemonster · 28/07/2009 15:18

I love mine. I carry my laptop to and from work in it every day. Expensive but extremely sturdy. They are very popular with London's working ladies if the number of people with them on the tube is anything to go by!

joliejolie · 28/07/2009 15:21

They are definitely more of a bung on and go bag. Great for days out with the kids because they are rainproof.
They also fold up small, so you can carry it in your handbag if you are going shopping.

I think the price is crazy really, but they are worth it. Cath Kidston and Orla Kiely charge more for laminate bags covered in flowers. At least the Pliage is a bit more understated...and has a zip!

I want one
My best mate has many

CHOOGIRL · 28/07/2009 15:30

I have two which I would never have purchased prior to the one piece of handbaggage rules which came in. I travel lots on business and they are really handy as they fold up really small yet are sturdy and you can fit lots in. I've also used the large pliage as an extra piece of checked in luggage. Word of warning though, make sure you label yours as I've almost walked off with the wrong bag on more than one occasion.

moondog · 28/07/2009 16:04

Why would anyone want lots of the same bag?

joliejolie · 28/07/2009 16:23

Well I bought the brown one and then a few weeks later saw the blue, which I preferred.
If they had had the blue the first time, I would only have bought one.

BobtheWoodmouse · 28/07/2009 18:17

I have a few pliages - they are great for all the reasons everyone mentions above. If you have slim arms, you can get the short-handled ones over your shoulder too.

My only criticism is the lack of compartments - everything does get all jumbled together at the bottom of the bag if it's not padded out with stuff. I'm using one of mine as a beach bag at the moment - by the time the towel is in, the water bottle can go upright down the side.

I like the zip - no chance of pickpockets. There is a very small flap inside at the top - handy for keys/mobile phone, instant tissue.

I stick mine in the washing machine too every now and again - comes out fine, just air dry in draped over a clothes horse in the bath to catch the initial drips, dries overnight.

EldonAve · 28/07/2009 18:48

so where is best to buy one? duty free?

joliejolie · 28/07/2009 18:51

I could sell mine for £25 as I don't use it.

mrsmerryweather · 28/07/2009 20:10

joliejolie- I may well be interested in your offer...

I am toying between the brown and the black- though brown is my fave I think!

Is yours in pretty good nick?

How would we go about the "sale"?

CHOOGIRL · 28/07/2009 20:28

here

joliejolie · 28/07/2009 20:52

Mine is in excellent condition because I bought the blue as well and use that all the time. I used the brown for about a week before putting it away.
I bought it from John Lewis in October-ish last year.
Give me your email and I can tell you how to pay.

mrsmerryweather · 28/07/2009 21:27

How do I give you my email- I am not registered with CAT and I don't want to give my name here...

Can you confirm the size? is it medium? there is a tiny one, then one about 12x10, then a bigger one, I think!

what next? Di I have to register with CAT?

OP posts:
hoxtonchick · 28/07/2009 22:21

OP posts:
joliejolie · 29/07/2009 00:24

ooh hc a patent one sounds lovely.

i keep my netbook in mine, have the smaller one.

FritesMenthe · 29/07/2009 08:51

Bobthewoodmouse - what cycle do you wash the bags on? Does the leather look ok afterwards? I have a mint green shopper that is so filthy that I never use it, so could give washing a try.
