Aren't M&S clothes shite at the moment?

Going to a party tomorrow. I have something to wear, but ended up with a couple of hours spare and decided to go and shop for something new. Nearest place with easy parking is a big M&S.

My God, how dreary are their clothes?! Shitey McShite of Shitesville.

Who buys all that stuff?

I was so disappointed not to be able to spend any money. I went round twice, in disbelief, convinced I must have missed all the nice stuff.

Apparently each store manager brings stock in according to their clientele so if you live in an area of mainly old folk like I do, the stock will mainly cater for them. M&S stuff has been terrible quality lately. Two pairs of linen crops worn to shreds after 4 wears! Expecting others to disintegrate soon. Read on web that they are using factories who supply Primark. When you've paid M&S's inflated prices that's unacceptable. I've had duvet covers, sheets, trousers come undone lately. Really poor quality stuff. Won't be buying there again. I want stuff to last longer that the first wash.

It's more about skin tone and eye colour, hair colour should be disregarded if it's a departure from your natural colour.

Darrel - are you coming to the cellar fritzl colour convention?

Quattro and MrsSeanBean Are you coming too?

policywonk · 13/07/2009 17:18

(I'm away middle two weeks of August)

That's true about M+S quality IME - the last three things I've bought from there haven't lasted at all.

DarrellRivers · 13/07/2009 17:23

So what colour season am I?
Pale skin, green eyes, dark brown hair.
Yellow and pale pink drain my skin tones
Tend towards rich greens, purples and greys, occasional brown
Would love to Swedes, but I'm sure you lot are london based and whilst I do foray into London by train as only takes an hour or so, would have difficulty explaining to DH where I was going ( he doesn't really get MN)
He would suspect I was being sold into slavery
Particularly the cellar bit

DarrellRivers · 13/07/2009 17:24

Am tempted though
Particularly the colours bit

You need to get good at taking things back, ladies. If something isn't up to standard, then you need to take it back citing the Sale of Goods Act 1979 which means that goods should be "fit for purpose, durable and of reasonable quality". A broken zip or seam coming undone isn't acceptable.

swedesinsunglasses · 13/07/2009 17:28

Even if you'vew worn it and washed it five times.

I only ever shop online with M&S. I hate shopping and have 2 teenage sons so you can imagine it's no pleasure shopping. To be fair to M&S they have said I can send them back in the post and they'll examine them for refund. They've also given me a £10 voucher. Trouble is I've recently spent around £200 on this viscose linen mix (trousers, crops) and this won't be covered at all. Also, the hassle! And I've chucked out the firts two raggedy pairs. Can't they just sell decent quality fabric in the first place? It's the only reason I shop at M&S. Their sizing is all over the place and the styles aren't exactly what you want. There's no reason to shop there other than the longevity and that's gone. I've had linen trousers from Next in the past and they've lasted years. I feel that at 48 Next is too young for me now. Is linen not expected to live for long?

swedesinsunglasses · 13/07/2009 17:33

I don't understand why the £200 worth of stuff won't be covered. I would just pop in to my local M&S mumbling Sale of Goods and ask for a refund. The teenagers are old enough to stay at home.

mrsmaidamess · 13/07/2009 17:40

Vietnamese, I know not about these new fangled 'cats'. But I am( wearing a turquoise top because I am clear winter.

mrsmaidamess · 13/07/2009 17:50

I know it was probably posted in jest but I think a 'colours n' canapes chez swedes' eveing would be divine. You clearly know what you are talking about.

swedesinsunglasses · 13/07/2009 17:56

Mrsmaidamess - No not jest, deadly serious. Are you coming? I won't be doing the colours btw (I'll get the expert in), I'll be concentrating on canapes and drinkies.

mrsmaidamess · 13/07/2009 17:56

Where art thou?

mrsmaidamess · 13/07/2009 17:57

I must insist on at least something chiffon being draped around my neck at some point

DarrellRivers · 13/07/2009 18:01

I'm expecting books of swatches [sp] to be placed next to our skin and much hissing through teeth from the experts

swedesinsunglasses · 13/07/2009 18:02

canapes = sliced Greggs sausage rolls, of course.

I am in H arpende n, 12 mins on train from West Hampstead, 25 mins from St Pancras

DarrellRivers · 13/07/2009 18:05

Ah, West Hampstead [dreams wistfully of early working life, clothes, parties, bars, clubs]

swedesinsunglasses · 13/07/2009 18:06

I've just spoken to the lady and she's happy to come (for free) and do a colour demonstration evening so long as there are 8 or more of us. It would be nice if it was all Mumsnetters, wouldn't it?

VietnameseCobbler · 13/07/2009 18:07

CAT to send you the book you nobb

Watt · 13/07/2009 18:07

How exciting! Can I come too even though I was so negative about the idea of CMB, and even though I almost always wear black (despite my colouring) for fear that a sombre mood might come upon me in the afternoon, jarring horribly with the fuschia and turquoise tunic that I had put on in the optimism of the morning?

DarrellRivers · 13/07/2009 18:08

Book is old hat now

VietnameseCobbler · 13/07/2009 18:09

you have planned all this while i have been reading and cooking

swedesinsunglasses · 13/07/2009 18:13

I always wanted my mother to have a tupperware party but she never would.

DarrellRivers · 13/07/2009 18:14

What date has been set Swedes?
