I saw so many when i ventured into nearest city today. The side partings are so severe on some of them they have to hairspray them into place.

I saw one girl, who's long hair was combed over from top of her ear.

Such cricked necks they walk with heads at right angles to bodies!!!

oh no it is much more extreme than those pics
it isn't just the emo fringe it is the WHOLE load of hair clagged over from about ear height

cocolepew · 28/06/2009 17:45

How does it stay in place? Do they stay indoors on windy days or walk sideways into the wind?

smurfgirl · 28/06/2009 17:47

Tis v.trendy. Always looks purposefully messy (I can't do this I look unwashed if I do). Muchos shirts from Joules as well. Roots seem to be in too? Blonde hair with black (messy) roots.

Beehives aplenty in Liverpool IME.

SweetEm · 28/06/2009 18:13

It is not just in the south, the girls in Blackburn have been doing it for ages! And it is not just a "posh" girl thing either.

I too think it looks ridiculous. I imagine that in 20 years time they'll look back on these comb-over hair-styles and cringe - much as we do over our 80's perms!

noddyholder · 28/06/2009 18:15

Its not just the girls here! Some of the boys look like bloody Arthur scargill

IkeaSnake · 28/06/2009 20:55

LADIES

i think ( as current "espert" on 14 year old girls) we have two sub categories here

A. The sloane oddly glued to mens stripey shirts, oversized pearls, yoga trousers and uggs she has HUGE birds nest hair

B. The comprehensive who has TIDY hair but with a ( rahter nice) sideswept fringe that must be checked through all school time.

IkeaSnake · 28/06/2009 20:56

Yes the teapot thing is also odd.

Also girls dont have school bags any more, they have handbags!

brimfull · 28/06/2009 20:57

lol
yup dd is a comprehensive

but wears shoulder bag

IkeaSnake · 28/06/2009 20:58

oh yes. ANd MIGHT own a cath kidston one for days when she has Food tech.

IkeaSnake · 28/06/2009 20:59

and has an A and F or Hollister hoodie you bougth against your better judgement.

EffiePerine · 28/06/2009 20:59

they are YOUNG and have shiny hair so can get away with it

also all the bright young things here are all wearing thick tights and leggings - only the fat middle aged birds are showing their legs (i.e. ME). Which is a shame.

brimfull · 28/06/2009 21:04

arf at the A&F hoodie

so true

I keep trying to ruin it lol

brimfull · 28/06/2009 21:05

Just now there was a teenage girl on Top Gear who had a comb over do. I thought of this thread straight away

weepootle · 28/06/2009 21:25

IkeaSnake, you described the 2 looks perfectly! Just to clarify; I think that the 'B' look is awful but 'A' is lovely- that's the one I make a half-arsed attempt to copy .

PortBlacksandResident · 28/06/2009 21:28

The handbag in the crook of the elbow says "I am so cool i don't have to do anything and can afford to be hampered down by holding one arm in this ridiculous pose constantly"

RustyBear · 28/06/2009 21:30

Bit late really hoochie - DD's hall had their meals with them. And one of her best friends has the flu...

Did your 'in my day' comment mean you were at Exeter too, hoochie?

DH & I met there - DD has just spent her first year in the same Hall that DH lived in.

saintmaybe · 28/06/2009 21:59

Ooh I love it

Young people always look beautiful of course, so they all looked great when they were doing that 90's 'natural' thing

But being an 80's girl myself I must say I like to see them making an effort. I love the painted, hairsprayed teenagers, bless them

very pleased to see boys in eyeliner and so on too

MrsMills · 29/06/2009 10:21

Oh yes, they've been doing it like that for quite a few years over here, with extreme backcombing.

I do catch myself thinking 'that looks ridiculous', but then realise that I sound just like my mother, and quickly avert my eyes
