probably come out a bit crumply, but it will "ride up with wear" as they used to say in Are You Being Served.

mrsmaidamess · 18/06/2009 17:59

was joking about insurance

ThePhantomPlopper · 18/06/2009 18:04

It will probably be fine, just a bit crumpled like catinthehat said.

OP posts:
catinthehat2 · 18/06/2009 18:28

No

Do Not Give Up.

It will change a lot when it is bone dry. the lining and the outer will dry differently.

Use the dampness to push it back into shape.

Linings can be given a couple of staystitches to put back in position.

brendaAndEddie · 18/06/2009 18:29

really?

OP posts:
catinthehat2 · 18/06/2009 18:32

Only despair if any facing (you know the bit that gently stiffens the front)goes bubbly.
I would throw the towel in at that point.

Linen viscose is a bit crumpulent anyway.

Give it till tomorrow.

I bought a (poss replacement) cracking boyfriend linen mix blazer, grey with a shocking pink lining for £17.50 in matalan. I shit you not.

MrsSeanBean · 18/06/2009 18:51

I shouldn't worry, I wash almost everything, dry clean label or not. 30 degrees cycle doesn't do much harm. I figure if it can get wet in the rain it can take it.

catinthehat2 · 18/06/2009 18:53

Yes , that's my rationale as well.

brendaAndEddie · 19/06/2009 15:06

no

disaster

It's the viscose - you can get away with washing most things but viscose simply can't cope with it I'm afraid

Countingthegreyhairs · 19/06/2009 15:28

Are you sure Heavens to Betsy?? (genuine question - not being narky - honest)

I'm really interested in this thread because I am contemplating washing a pair of Nicole Farhi linen trews which have a viscose and elastane lining and a "dry clean only" label.

In my Good Housekeeping handbook (yes I am a laundry nerd) it says;

"Viscose (also called Rayon)

Fibre made from the pulp of eucalptus and spruce wood used on its own or in blends. Wash with care at low temperatures. To discourage creasing, use a short spin when washing and do not wring. Iron while damp on steam setting."

Elastane you can machine-wash on delicates at low temps.

I know for a fact that linen is at its strongest when wet.

Should I not do it then? Would machine washing them on delicate totally ruin them?

My reasoning is that the trousers are a bit on the big side and I want them to shrink slightly.

brendaAndEddie · 19/06/2009 15:45

oh tis all shit looking.

SpawnChorus · 19/06/2009 15:49

Is it worth taking it to a dry cleaners to get it professionally ironed/pressed? Does it look like the lining can be ironed back into shape iykwim?

SpawnChorus · 19/06/2009 15:50

I wash everything except DH's suits. It's survival of the fittest innit? I now have a highly evolved wardrobe.

brendaAndEddie · 19/06/2009 15:52

the whole thing is shrunk
went to zara this am and got another but this years cut and colour is not as nice

OP posts:
SpawnChorus · 19/06/2009 15:53

Och. That's a shame.

Countingthegreyhairs · 19/06/2009 15:57

oh - sorry to hear that brendaandEddie
