viscose is a bugger for shrinking .

heavenstobetsy · 21/06/2009 09:42

sorry Countingthegreyhairs, missed your question.

When I was at college my Saturday job was working in Sketchleys and my recollection is that viscose was a total no-no for washing - it does crease horrifically and if you try to press it while damp it doesn't hold its shape and you get wavy hems and wonky seems. And you end up with clothes a different size to the lining

Despite knowing this I did once wash a linen jacket with a viscose lining and it ended up in the bin

TBH if you like the trousers I wouldn't chance it - much better to get them taken in

Countingthegreyhairs · 21/06/2009 23:42

Sorry HeavenstoBetsy - I've only just seen this now!

Thanks for the info - much appreciated - that makes sense about lining and trews ending up different size - even if the viscose survives the wash which doesn't sound likely.

Hope you can resurrect your jacket BrendaandEddie and apologies for hi-jack

I've just bought a lovely dress in Ghost sale... viscose... its says wash 30c.

Am worrying now.

Countingthegreyhairs · 22/06/2009 00:26

the moon - maybe it's ok to wash if it's 100% viscose - ie no danger of fabrics shrinking at different rates

I wish there could be a proper system for washing labels that conformed across the board ....then we would actually know if "dry clean only" really means that .. or if a manufacturer is just trying to cover its own back ...

My ghost stuff washes well ... they boil their viscose or some such to get it nice and soft, so i don't there's any more shrinkage to go!
