What do i wear with this dress for a wedding?

Dress

I need some kind of jacket/shrug and shoes. I cant decide what colour would go best. The detail around neckline is pink, orange and a mink ish colour.

The wedding is next bank holiday. I need something to keep me warm if weather is terrible. I'll be in the outfit all day so need comfy shoes. It is a church wedding with a posh reception.

Im a size 12-14, petite, 28 yrs old, pale, blonde. I suit greens (have green eyes)would that go with dress?? I've been looking at Monsoon for inspiration.

Please help me put all the pieces of the outfit together. The wedding is a work colleague of DH so alot of his work friends will be there. I want to feel comfy and not look out of place. I seem to have lost the ability to put clothes together and dress my self in something other than jeans since DS arrived.

From your description I'm not sure if you've bought the black or the green one. If it's the green one I would wear a black shrug and black patent shoes (high heels) and either a green bag to match the dress or a black one.

If it's the black one I'd go for pink or red shoes with a black bag. The right pink or red shrug might be hard to find but you might have some luck if you opted for a pashmina or a shawl.

I would normally google and look for you but I am a little tipsy on pear cider but wanted to say the dress ios lovely.

mrsruffallo · 03/05/2009 23:00

How about this?

pearlsbeforeswine · 03/05/2009 23:00

I think black shoes would be too dark though.

mrsruffallo · 03/05/2009 23:01

Agree with pearls-It is a lovely dress

pearlsbeforeswine · 03/05/2009 23:03

I would pick up one of the colours in the embroidery for a cardigan or similar and wear nude shoes, make your legs look longer and will be a good investment.

cornsilk · 03/05/2009 23:04

That's a lovely dress. I think a cream coloured wrap or cardigan would suit or any of the colours around the neck of the dress. Don't go to Monsoon - they're absolutely pants for returns.

If it's the green, I'd pick out the light blue/turquise colour or the darker green from the hem; if the black then either the red or the pinks.

pearlsbeforeswine · 03/05/2009 23:04

is a cardigan too informal

namechangecosfeelingsad · 03/05/2009 23:05

Beautiful dress. I think that I would go for the baby pink colour for shoes and a little cardi - back in a sec with some links.

cornsilk · 03/05/2009 23:06

I was thinking of a crochet type cardi .

pearlsbeforeswine · 03/05/2009 23:06

duck egg bolero

pearlsbeforeswine · 03/05/2009 23:07

another blue bolero a crochet one would look lovely.

Heated · 03/05/2009 23:10

lewis cream

jl turquoisey blue

mrsmaidamess · 03/05/2009 23:11

As the dress is 100% cotton is it dressy enough for a wedding? If you think yes I suggest you go for more glam shoes and accessories.

Do not wear black with it, black will suck the life out of it. I think I spy some purple around the neck of that dress

what about purple wrap

or a purple shrug

purple shoes

and some sparkly purply chandelier earrings.

namechangecosfeelingsad · 03/05/2009 23:11

These would pick up the paisely pattern of the embrodiery and have the greens, pinks and blues, what do you think?

mrsmaidamess · 03/05/2009 23:12

cardigans definitely too informal..it's a wedding, not the school run

Heated · 03/05/2009 23:13

trying to link cream one again

pearlsbeforeswine · 03/05/2009 23:14

blinkin heck mrsmaidamess that told me.

mrsmaidamess · 03/05/2009 23:15

no room for pussy footing around in style and beauty

pearlsbeforeswine · 03/05/2009 23:16

I'll get back to my cider and cardigans

namechangecosfeelingsad · 03/05/2009 23:16

Mrsmaidamess - do you really wear a gorgeous dress, heels, beautiful little cardi and well-chosen accesories for the school run? Hats off if you do!

I personally think that a soft little cardi is lovely over a nice dress for a wedding - OP sayd she wants to feel comfy, so a formal jacket or beaded shrug might be too much.

mrsmaidamess · 03/05/2009 23:21

Yes I do wear nice dresses and cardies. It's a wedding the OP is going to...I personally don't think knitwear has a place at a wedding! Unless you are wearing some fabulous earrings or shoes or something to stop it looking ordinary.

namechangecosfeelingsad · 03/05/2009 23:22

Blimey. I see now that all those 'school run dress' threads aren't a joke.

Anyhoo, back to the OP - seen anything you like m'dear?

mrsmaidamess · 03/05/2009 23:26

School run dress threads are a joke.

I do not totter off to school like I am attending someone's nuptuals, if thats what you're getting at!

In the same vein, wedding guests should not look like they have just dropped the kids off at school . So no fleeces.
