So, what's the alternative to jeans and a glam top for a night out these days?

I'm bored by this combo -what do you all wear for a night out with the girls without going too over the top?

skirt?

merlin · 16/04/2009 21:21

Mmmm, but what style?

what are your legs like?

how short do you feel comfortable wearing?

FigmentOfYourImagination · 16/04/2009 21:23

I am over the top so don't ask me.

merlin · 16/04/2009 21:24

ooh god not short - I'd empty the bar - lol!!
Be nice to get away from black, but then I'm rubbish with what sort of shoe. I've got very lazy in wearing jeans, jeans jeans with boots!

fIGMENT - lol!!! How over the top is over the top though?!!

I go for a dress over thick tights (black or patterned) and high heeled boots or shoes. I can't get away with lovely short dresses unless I wear the thick tights. Not young or slim enough!

lou33 · 16/04/2009 21:26

do you like heels or flats?

merlin · 16/04/2009 21:26

MrsM - that sounds good. But I think I'm so used to jeans that when I put on a dress I feel too 'dressed up'! I think I need to take a long, hard look at my wardrobe and have a rethink!

OP posts:
merlin · 16/04/2009 21:27

Lou - not skyscraper heels but medium is fine. Flats make me waddle

black leggings and a long top or short dress, can be dressed up orr down depending on heels or flats and amount of accesorising

lou33 · 16/04/2009 21:28

knee length pencil skirt?

FigmentOfYourImagination · 16/04/2009 21:29

I am going out next weekend. My outfit will be thus.....

Fitted black short sleeved t-shirt (demure, yes?)
Bum skimming stripy mini tulip skirt in pink, grey, black, red tones (I'd better not drop anything on the night out cos I'm sure as heck not bending down to retrieve it)
Bright neon/hot pink opaques
High, high, high (altitude sickness inducing) grey suede shoe boots with neon pink flash

I would not go bare legged in this outfit even though legs are ok. I'd feel tarty with bare legs. Also going plain on the toip because bottom half is quite busy so don't want to look like Krusty the clown.

LaurenIsMoreThanReadyToPop61 · 16/04/2009 21:29

yeh with a nice belt and top =]

merlin · 16/04/2009 21:30

Thanks Lauren - just checked your profile and see you are a mere baby! I am 47 this year - haven't been brave enough for leggings yet! Good luck with the baby!!!

lou33 · 16/04/2009 21:31

fitted shirt and pencil skirt always looks good imo

FigmentOfYourImagination · 16/04/2009 21:32

LaurenIsMoreThanReadyToPop61 · 16/04/2009 21:32

mileniwmffalcon · 16/04/2009 21:32

LaurenIsMoreThanReadyToPop61 · 16/04/2009 21:33

merlin · 16/04/2009 21:33

again though I would go fitted black t on top of fishnets and pencil skirt.

FigmentOfYourImagination · 16/04/2009 21:34

fitted plain t dresses it down, imo.
