Anyone tried:

Piz buin gradual self tan
St tropez every day
Olay Touch of Sun
Neutrogena Nourishing Glow
Maybelline Dream Sun Glow

I have tried loads of others but even with exfolating and using a mitt they still go wrong!!

Oh and to add another to the list what about Boots Holiday Glow.

I have used the St Tropez Everyday recently, as it was deemed idiot-proof... I still have orange ankles (and I DID exfoliate!!)

Am an idiot...

nappyaddict · 15/04/2009 16:53

Will cross that one off the list then! Have you tried it using a mitt?

It's not a moisturiser one but I have recently had success with ambre solaire express bronze spray. I put it on whilst still damp after bath/shower and have only had one streak and one slightly orange knee(my fault as aimed funny and sprayed directly on my knee). It is a really subtle colour, every other one i've tried has looked really fake on me (I'm very pale) but this looks natural and since I've been using it I've had a few comments that I am looking well. So far I have more of a glow than a tan but thats fine especially for this time of year!

Oh and it hardly smells at all

Fluffybubble · 15/04/2009 17:12

I didn't try using a mitt - I used the 360 degree aero-spray completely simple and foolproof version (apparently!!) as I've had horrific results in the past. My arms and tummy looked okay, to be fair, but I was the only person at Center Parcs with orange ankles and feet (not a good look ).

clairebee's sounds good...I keep trying in the hope that one day I will be bronzed and glowey but after my latest attempt I would be tempted to get a professional application.

The only other one that I did have vaguely successful results with was a Next version which I grabbed for £2 in the sale. It was a medium to darker type and although I do have quite fair skin it looked natural (it did stink though!).

nappyaddict · 15/04/2009 17:14

fluffy is that the sort you just spray over and you don't have to rub in?

poshtottie · 15/04/2009 17:29

I think St Tropez everyday is the best for home application though I use the one for fair skin.

Fake bake is sopposed to be good.

mrsmaidamess · 15/04/2009 17:31

I use St Tropez everyday, and still get darker knees and strangely, tops of feet. But I think its the best colour.

nappyaddict · 15/04/2009 17:34

which one do you use mrsmaidamess?

Did you try the johnsons holiday skin? Havent tried it myself but thought it meant to be good. I also use the ambre solairt express bronze spray - I have to say i really like it and get good streak free results. Am quite dark/olive skinned.
Try putting moisturiser on knees/ankles/elbows before you apply. I always use a nail type scrubbing brush to really clean my hands after fake tanning.

Zebraa · 15/04/2009 18:19

Someone on here suggested st tropez everyday to me and although the first time it doesn't show up, you apply it everyday and it builds up to a nice, even realistic colour - on me anyway.

If all else fails, johnsons holiday skin - but use the darker one even if you're pale because the fair one has a yellow tint!

Fluffybubble · 15/04/2009 19:35

Sorry for disappearing nappy - yes, you don't need to rub it in, which is why I thought it was fail-safe! The top half of me was okay though so I guess it was probably something to do with my application...I really really really tried to do it right though!!

BaDaBing · 15/04/2009 19:37

I use the body shop cocoa butter one and its fab. About £9 for a bottle and it last ages as its quite thin in consistency (and smells okay when dry in comparison to some)

WilyWombat · 15/04/2009 19:43

I find the Johnsons one quite good, as its just like moisturiser it doesnt seem to streak - it will stain anything pale you wear though so wear dark clothes just after applying.

nappyaddict · 16/04/2009 10:08

I've tried garnier, l'oreal, no 7, johnsons, dove and nivea

OP posts:
MrsMuddle · 16/04/2009 11:06

I've tried Dove and Johnsons. I'm very fair, and the Johnsons was a bit yellow, and the dove gave me orange ankles, no matter how much I exfoliated.

Are there some that smell nicer than others?

MrsBoo · 16/04/2009 11:10

I find the everyday ones no use - have tried Dove and Johnsons.
My favourite, although its a right pain in the neck to apply, and needs washed off afterwards etc, is the ordinary St Tropez - haven't tried their everyday one, might be easier in the long run to try this.
Anyone know the cheapest place to get it at the moment?

hobbgoblin · 16/04/2009 11:12

I've tried them all except Piz Buin and find them all okay. What is going wrong for you?

I've found a better one this week...

Johnson's is my best natural looking eassy to apply in a hurry option but it takes a while to get a deep colour.

My new one doesn't smell of anything, gives instant colour too, has not streaked at all and is okay on risky areas so long as you use moisturiser first on toes, etc. and give soles and sides of feet a wipe with a babywipe straight after.

Would tell you the name but can't til I go upstairs.

MrsMuddle · 16/04/2009 11:21

Please, please go upstairs and find out. I'm going into town in about 10 minutes, and I'll buy it and give it a try.

hobbgoblin · 16/04/2009 11:26

Okay!

It is Vita Liberata silken chocolate. Got in Boots. There is another one but it's wash off so is definitely the silken chocolate you need.

hobbgoblin · 16/04/2009 11:29

review here

bumpybecky · 16/04/2009 12:31

The Dove and Johnsons gradual tan moisturisers were both half price in Boots earlier this week. I'm currently wearing the Dove on my left side and the Johnsons on my right side in a fair and controlled experiment started this morning the Johnsons one smells a bit odd and was a bit greasier, took longer to soak in. Will have to see about the colour though, at the moment I'm a blueish white colour....

MrsMuddle · 16/04/2009 15:24

Thanks hobbgoblin - haven't quite made it out the house yet, but I've taken a note and will be visiting Boots very soon!
