Can I wear a maxi dress on the school run?

Or will it look a bit OTT? Would I look a bit bonkers?

I have my eye on this, but dunno when else I'd wear it. I do love it though and want an excuse to buy it!

Do it do it do it!

TrillianEAstraEgg · 13/04/2009 16:05

You should never be made to feel 'bonkers' for looking beautiful.

(check if you can eg chase after runaway children while wearing it first though)

Mooseheart · 13/04/2009 16:09

Thanks Trillian... hmm I would quite possibly look a bit of a loon chasing after and shouting at the children, skirts billowing out behind me...

(Mouse slaps herself on the wrists for being so self-conscious and vain)

As long as you are wearing a decent bra then you'll be fine

mrsmaidamess · 13/04/2009 16:21

I think maxi dresses are OTT for the school run. Weddings oui, school run, non. ALTHOUGH you could dress it down with a denim jacket.

giantkatestacks · 13/04/2009 16:26

I wear them through the whole summer - they're ok as long as you dress them down - I do that with converse which may make me look bonkers but dont care

Granny22 · 13/04/2009 16:35

As an aging 60's hippy with VERY fat calves I love my long skirts and dresses and wear them anywhere. I can certainly run in them but sometimes they are a PITA for driving and manage to wrap round the pedals, or catch on shoe buckles. - Love the dress BTW

PurlyQueen · 13/04/2009 17:18

If it makes you happy, then wear it.

Do people really care what others wear on the school run?

Stilla · 13/04/2009 18:18

Love the dress - I saw it the last time I was in New Look, it was near the door and started calling to me as soon as I walked in

Mooseheart · 13/04/2009 20:31

Thank you for all your advice.

Yes Maidamess I was thinking of wearing it with my denim jacket - even though I haven't dug it out for a couple of years I imagine they would look really good together. (Plus my green velvet hair band and pearl earrings .)

(That last bit wasn't meant to be serious btw, just referring to a recent convo)

Agree with Mrsmaidamess. Perhaps a bit too 'Margot Leadbetter' for the school run.

Lovely dress though.

Stuffed · 13/04/2009 21:42

It if fine for the school run - as long as it's warm weather.

I'm planning on building up a collection of school run maxi dresses.

cornsilk · 13/04/2009 21:44

I don't like it. Everyone else does. I have no style.

SuziSeis · 13/04/2009 21:45

wear the maxi dress you only live once

SofaQueen · 13/04/2009 21:45

Beautiful dress. Why would it look strange? Wear it casually with sass (channel your inner Nicole Ritchie).

Stuffed · 13/04/2009 21:46

I may even wear this one

random · 13/04/2009 21:46

I cant get my head round school run dresses ...still long time since I took my ds[16] school ...probably just as well

SuziSeis · 13/04/2009 21:55

that dress from boden not so nice

toffeeapple · 13/04/2009 21:56

I must be a freak. I don't plan what I'm gonna wear for school run. My god I didn't even realize people look at what you're wearing.
So scary

Hulababy · 13/04/2009 21:58

You can wear whatever you want on the school run. 99% of the other parents don't care a hoot as they are so busy and/or wrapped up in their own child/ren to give a second thought!

DamonBradleylovesPippi · 13/04/2009 21:58

why not?
