Why do some women wear clothes that are obviously a size too small?

As demonstrated by Sarah Brown. The outfit is lovely, the colour suits her but it is too tight.

There is no point in being proud of getting into a size 12 if you really should be wearing a 14.

My MIL does this too. Why why why.

Oooh that's not good. Does she not have someone to tell her NO?

Don't like MO's outfit though either - her tops are always too small. How tall is she???? She towers over the other first ladies.

BoysAreLikeDogs · 02/04/2009 17:52

tis vanity innit

misplaced mind you

LaDiDaDi · 02/04/2009 17:53

She would have definitely looked better in a bigger size and with some Spanx on underneath.

I'm paranoid about looking like this but it can be difficult if you are between sizes or want a dress and are different sizes on the top and bottom.

crokky · 02/04/2009 17:54

Do you think she gets her own clothes? I would have thought she had an assistant - it is the assistant's fault. Sarah Brown looks pretty, but the outfit doesn't fit and doesn't suit her. I would have thought she would have been quite easy to dress.

i'm not normally pedantic but shouldn't it read; first ladys' as they seem to be referring to both of them in the title. although even that's wrong as sarah brown isn't referred to as a first lady

horrible clothes all round, is michelle's cardigan buttoned up wrong?!

Tidey · 02/04/2009 17:55

I'm no fashion plate myself, but I'd want someone to tell me if my arse looked like two dogs fighting in a sack.

MmeLindt · 02/04/2009 17:56

Riven
That is my excuse, but I would imagine that SB went shopping before the G20.

And blaming it on the assistant is not fair. She has a mirror.

muggglewump · 02/04/2009 17:59

Maybe she has IBS and was bloated?
Surely there has to be a good reason why she'd wear that. It looks awful.

nickschick · 02/04/2009 17:59

I think Sarah Brown wears all the wrong clothes her legs are always covered in very thick 100 denier frump tights and she wears the wrong type of clothes her body cannot carry structured outfits and as a result she looks crammed into anything .....shes got some thighs on her that girl......

muggglewump · 02/04/2009 18:00

Not that I'm one to talk, most of my clothes come from Charity shops and the trainers I live in are scuffed
I'm not the PM's wife though!

muggglewump · 02/04/2009 18:02

I also don't actually live in a shoe, I just like said scuffed trainers and wear them a lot.

Pannacotta · 02/04/2009 18:04

I agree with nickchick that its the style of the clothes that is the most obvious.
I dont think the outfit looks hugely too small but it it is very unflattering to her figure, which is quite nice and womanly IMO.
Think she'd be better off in something less fitted which skims rather than clings to her thighs and shows off her boobs/waist instead.

TheSynOddOneOfWhitby · 02/04/2009 18:05

muggglewump - how many DCs do you have? Hmmmmm .

muggglewump · 02/04/2009 18:06

Just the one, so really no living in shoes here

MmeLindt · 02/04/2009 18:07

True, Pannacotta. Let's face it, you have to have a figure like Cindy Crawford to wear a dress made of jersey material.

I think that fitted outfits are ok, but not jersey/cut on the cross/clingy material. And sheer tights, not opaque.

LaDiDaDi · 02/04/2009 18:08

She could have looked fab in this

BonsoirAnna · 02/04/2009 18:11

OMG Sarah Brown looks ghastly in that picture. Grrrrrrrr.

nickschick · 02/04/2009 18:15

Ladidadi yes I think that dress would be ideal.

The thing im seeing is that the Obama's have arrived here all fresh, bright and open minded -dare I say modern? and in comparison we have a tired old Gordon Brown, his wife who dresses 30 years older than she is and the Queen god bless her who looks practically antique- we need fresh young blood full of life full of promise full of hope full of optimism.

MmeLindt · 02/04/2009 18:18

Ladidadi
That is a pretty dress, and would suit her colouring.

I am a generous size 14, well ok, a 16 and I know how difficult it is to find something flattering. I am sooo glad that my DH is not Chancellor of Germany

EdwardCullensWife · 02/04/2009 18:20

MO already usually looks much bigger on the bottom half than the top. That skirt is NOT helping.

Ceolas · 02/04/2009 18:28

Pinktulips, plural of lady is ladies

With their money there's no excuse for wearing ill fitting clothes!

BonsoirAnna · 02/04/2009 18:28

I think Michelle Obama looks fabulous in the picture in the OP. Whereas Sarah Brown just looks her usual frumpy lumpy self.

EdwardCullensWife · 02/04/2009 18:30

Apart from anything else, it's just not comfortable to wear clothes that are too tight.

ramonaquimby · 02/04/2009 18:34

agree that there are loads of women that wear clothes too small for them especially tshirts! I dont' want to see your gut! - it's not a great look
