Need shoe advice to go with alarmingly orange dress

Today, in a fit of daring, I bought this to wear at a friend's black tie evening wedding reception. I'm quite short so it is a little bit longer on me - just below the knee a bit like the styles that Mrs Beckham likes to wear. I do not want to look like her tho.

So... what colour shoes?

I'm toying with bright pink (though they wouldn't go with anything else I own and pinks aren't really my colour), gold or black patent.

Also, my skin is very pale indeed so do you think that if I did a fake tan with this dress it would look very brassy and Beckhamesque?

I would try and find organge shoes to match
or failing that black patent would be fab
fake tan can look terrible - especially if it isnot sunny

Pennies · 28/03/2009 18:47

But if I did orange shoes wouldn't I look like I'd been tango'd?

I think it could look very stylish
I saw a friend in bright red dress and bright red shoes and she look fabulous

if you had fake tan you might look tangoed!!

Miamla · 28/03/2009 18:49

i say go for something bright. i like your pink idea as long as we're talking about fushia pink

BEAUTlFUL · 28/03/2009 18:49

I think hot pink would be fab! Or silver. If you really can't find anything, you could go for very strappy shoes so there's not as much "solid" shoe-colour going on. Silver strappy shoes would be nice.

St Tropez fake tan is lovely and not brassy/orangey at all, just a nice browny colour. What colour is your hair?

BEAUTlFUL · 28/03/2009 18:52

Like these silver ones, but in whichever heel is stylish these days, I'm out of touch since having DS2

samsonara · 28/03/2009 18:55

Don't do the fake tan unless it's something you normally do , not orange shoesm get a brinzy brown or black if you want to look cool and chic, and choose colour like pink or blue if you want to look trendy and funky.

Jaquelinehyde · 28/03/2009 18:58

I would go for the bright pink shoes as well, with a chunky bracelet in the same colour.

Pennies · 28/03/2009 18:59

Pink bag to match or is that too much? Am worried I could over do it and look like Barbie on acid.

Bronze or gold.

solowitch · 28/03/2009 19:03

Bronze or gold will be very stylish and very sophisticated but pink or orange will have the opposite effect IMO.

Beetroot · 28/03/2009 19:04

orange shoes

Pennies · 28/03/2009 19:08

There seems to be a mixed opinion here. Those orange ones are great but they haven't got my size.

TBH I'm thinking gold or black because then they would be more versatile with the other evening stuff I have.

Although black doesn't look too great with the model and I'm similar colouring to her.

I aM starting to go off the orange now that I have seen them in action. I guess red is just different

Quattrocento · 28/03/2009 19:12

Not orange shoes. Not pink with orange. Not gold either.

Black. Or maybe bronze.

solowitch · 28/03/2009 19:14

Oh! beetroot! those shoes are GEORGEOUS! if a little pricey.

singyswife · 28/03/2009 19:19

I was at a party a couple of weeks ago and a young girl there was wearing a short black dress. She had pair of black shoes with white edging on them which she said came from Matalan . They were fairly chunky but when I saw your dress I thought of them. They are not online but you may be able to see them in store.

solowitch · 28/03/2009 19:22

Matalan has a half price sale on and they've got some lovely shoes for £5 - £7. Not those ones though singyswife, at least not in my local Matalan. They would look good though!

singyswife · 28/03/2009 19:24

I am going away for a dirty romantic weekend and need some new clothes for it. Didnt know about the Matalan sale, must pop in. Thanks for that.

Jaquelinehyde · 28/03/2009 19:30

I still stand by the pink shoes and matching bracelet, it really will look lovely. However, I would ditch any ideas you have about getting a fake tan, I've seen the combination of bright orange clothes and fake tan in action it's hideous.

VinoEsmeralda · 28/03/2009 19:43

I like the idea of pink shoes and bag but think black shoes/bag is more dressed for black tie recepetion. Also like the idea of silver...

No to tan as think that colour dress is made for fair skinned people!

Beetroot · 30/03/2009 16:28

I like these - very classy

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 30/03/2009 16:54

No no no to matching shoes.

Or Pink shoes.

Either tarnished bronze or black very subtle round closed toed courts. Otherwise you will look a little slutty.

Something like those. The dress is statement enough, the accessories should just be subtle.
