Need shoe advice to go with alarmingly orange dress

Today, in a fit of daring, I bought this to wear at a friend's black tie evening wedding reception. I'm quite short so it is a little bit longer on me - just below the knee a bit like the styles that Mrs Beckham likes to wear. I do not want to look like her tho.

So... what colour shoes?

I'm toying with bright pink (though they wouldn't go with anything else I own and pinks aren't really my colour), gold or black patent.

Also, my skin is very pale indeed so do you think that if I did a fake tan with this dress it would look very brassy and Beckhamesque?

Dark grey looks good with brights.

What about these? Or these?

Ideal

NOT orange shoes.. you will look like you have been tangoed. It will look too try hard, matchy-matchy is bad.

Not black as it will look too 'these are the only shoes I have'.

I think acid pink, and maybe a bright neon blue bag. Would look very funky.

If you would rather go for classy than trendy, I would say grey with a grey bag.. something like that.

The dress. by the way, is beautiful.

I would wear my white Birkenstocks. But that's me.

I do love white with orange though.

Heebeejeebee · 30/03/2009 17:29

I once wore an outfit that colour (satsuma, I believe it was called). I was going to my too-recent-to-cancel-attendance ex boyfriend's, ex-girlfriend's wedding. To make sure I looked super-splendid I went to the personal shopper at Dickens & Jones, who picked out that outfit for me with navy shoes. Maybe something navy/strappy?

Black patent

TimGunn · 30/03/2009 17:38

Orange shoes are wrong.

Black shoes are too safe with this dress.

Either go for another bright colour of a similar tone ie. pink, electric blue.

If this feels too much then grey as mentioned earlier.

Never match accessories, it's very off trend.

Ivykaty44 · 30/03/2009 17:38

safe bet

nearly the colour?

platform

I like these sod if they go with the dress!

FannyJo · 30/03/2009 17:43

Def not orange shoes, you'll look mental
Black patent gets my vote

I still disagree with everyone, except heebie, Navy sounds lovely.

I think shoes in the style I linked to but in a beaten up/tarnished leathery gold will look fabulous. I have some in my wardrobe, no sure how to find any online though.

DWP - they are grose

Beetroot · 30/03/2009 17:46

Just saw this dress and thought of this thread. Thought it might give you an idea of what the orange dress might look like with grey accessories.

BEAUTlFUL · 31/03/2009 10:52

Leoness · 31/03/2009 11:00
