I never wash my face

And my skin is perfect.

Never spotty, never flaky, it's lovely. People compliment me all the time,, and ask me how I do it, but what can I say? I can't say "Oh well I never wash it more often than every 3 days and I leave my make up on until it makes it's own way off, and I wipe the rest off with a warm flannel" can I? Why is my skin nice? By rights it should be horrible, greasy and dirty, and it honestly isn't.

You guys are blessed. I wash everyday, twice a day and if I miss a day , three days later I have a pimple, no thanks!

MaggieBeauLeo · 22/09/2009 16:59

My mum doesn't either. Her idea of a skin care regime is 'stand under shower'. She hardly even moisturises either. She's 65 and looks about 58 I'd say. so it hasn't caught up with her yet.

I havent washed my face since 1987. Im 57 now. I stopped because after washing in a morning my face always turned blotchy. I preferred how it looked before washing. Ive never confessed that to anyone before. Lol...i have no spots, no wrinkles either. Although that could be in addition to not smoking or drinking. Good to see i am not alone in this.

Pusspuss1 · 29/11/2014 20:55

Wow - 1987!! Maybe I wash mine too much, but I've got to get the sunscreen off somehow, or I'd give it a try. I only do mine in the evening, because I've read stuff like this on skincare boards in the past. Just a quick wipe with a flannel in the morning. Isn't this really about the fact that the non-face-washers aren't breaking down their skin barriers like the washers are, though?

Corygal · 29/11/2014 21:29

I wash my face once a day but I've never used toner or moisturiser. One wrinkle aged 46.

OttiliaVonBCup · 29/11/2014 21:37

I've always said it.

All this double, triple and sonic cleansing malarkey is murder.
I use cold cream in the bath and a were flannel otherwise and that's that.
I have good skin.

AF get a zapper for the coldsore buggers. It kills then dead.

I used to spend a fortune on Clinique 3 step. Agonised over no longer really being able to afford it. I now wash morning and night, using a Simple face wash. I no longer use toner but run a rough dry flannel over my face to remove excess water before drying properly. I use moisturiser at night and often it's freebie samples I've got from magazines or beauty counters. I generally don't moisturise in a morning unless I feel I really need it. I'm 38 and have noticed no difference from when I was using 3 step.

I like this thread. I can't shake my suspicion that 99% of all skin are products are snake oil and pretty packaging. I believe in the value of a decent SPF but otherwise I'm unconvinced by all the stuff the beauty industry tries to flog us.

soupmaker · 30/11/2014 08:42

I agree that the main contributors to good skin are genes, diet, not smoking and keeping out the sun.

I rarely wear make up which I suspect helps as well.

I'm 44 and have a few crows feet but no wrinkles. Mornings are a quick rub with a flannel in the shower followed by a dab of moisturiser and at night time same again but with a cheap cream cleanser and then plenty of Khiels Midnight Recovery Concentrate which keeps skin soft and glowing IME.

I'm sure it's down to good luck as I spent my 20's and early 30's partying hard!

WildBillfemale · 30/11/2014 09:54

Your skin is nice because you don't upset the balance by doing too much to it.

When you see people list skin care routines where they are using several products it doesn't take a genius to work out that some of the products cancel out the 'side effects' of other products e.g too much stripping/exfoliating then using creams to compensate.
Or simply using so much stuff it upsets the skins natural balance.

Floisme · 30/11/2014 10:15

Agree with that. Using too many products very nearly wrecked my skin.

gerbiltamer · 30/11/2014 10:45

Very odd, DH and me were discussing the MN tip of not washing one's (sorry!) face in the morning because of the need to strip the skin of the natural oils it has replenished overnight and it's so good. Really pleased with that tip :)

itsbetterthanabox · 30/11/2014 11:32

It's just luck of the genes. My skin is uneven, oily and spotty no matter what I use or don't use on it and I have tried not washing and just using water. People with the 'normal' skin have that skin either way. Although it'd be best to take off your makeup as it still blocks pores and use a moisturiser with SPF so you don't get sun damage.

Twinklestein · 30/11/2014 12:02

I never wash my face with water - if I do it just feels super dry.

I use either cleansing lotion or the oil cleansing method, then rose water afterwards to make it feel fresh and clean.

Millli · 30/11/2014 12:36

I'm in my early fifties and don't wash my face either. I don't wear foundation and only wear minimal makeup. People believe me to be 38 as I have very few lines or wrinkles. I don't use all these expensive cleansing moisturising products either. I do eat well though. Smile

mrsladyman · 30/11/2014 12:54

I never ever wash my face at all. I don't use cleanser either. My skin is good and I am 45. I literally splash water on my face when in the shower.
As I have got older I sometimes put some oil on my face of an evening.
I think the whole beauty industry is a con. They sell you stuff to wash off the facial oils then they sell you stuff to put them back on again.
I use a baby wipe to take off my eye makeup. I don't use foundation.

flippinada · 30/11/2014 13:04

Well you know, I'm 89 and everyone mistakes me for a teenager. All these fancy pants lotions and cleansers are for sheeple.

I only ever cleanse my face every leap year with a dab of swarfega and rinse with rain water I've collected in an earthenware jug.

If I'm feeling fancy I exfoliate with an asda smart price brillo pad and moisturise with vegetable oil.

Oh, and I live off pork scratchings and lard.

itsbetterthanabox · 30/11/2014 13:47

If you have oily acne prone skin then not washing will exacerbate it. It's usually hormonal so won't 'regulate' itself and having blocked pores won't help at all.
If you have normal skin it'll be fine. Ageing or looking young isn't relevant either. Cleansers and washes don't aim to make you look younger they are to take off dirt, makeup and excess oils.

squoosh · 30/11/2014 14:09

Grin flippinada.

goodasitgets · 30/11/2014 14:13

I have to cleanse. Spend a lot of time either in air con, sweating in the gym, or outside horse riding. The flannel is filthy when I wash my face Shock

Cerisier · 30/11/2014 14:27

NotTodaySatan · 30/11/2014 14:31

Delurking to say

I think I love FlippinAda Grin Grin

Floisme · 30/11/2014 14:38

I do often moisturise with oil. And a brillo pad would arguably have done my skin no more damage than some of the so-called beauty products I've used.

flippinada · 30/11/2014 15:36

I forgot to mention that I use the vegetable oil to deep fry the pork scratchings. I'm not wasteful.
