remember that thread wondering why we were all getting mysterious holes in the fronts of tops and we thought it had something to do with washing machines!

well it has happened to a t-shirt and I haven't even washed it yet!

Must be something to do with the button on my jeans .
Might be a little teeny man with a very sharp pointy thing living in my tummy button.

Dh used to get this and it was from his belt.
Do you have anything sharp on your handbag?
Or do you carry a baby that has buttons/anything on his clothes that could be doing it?
Something sharp inside your jacket?

FruitynNutty · 17/03/2009 09:47

I get these all the time! where do they come from!?

I didn't know there was a thread about it.

I thought it was moths which for some reason only go to that one bit

I'm so pleased I'm not the only one it happens to

Bizarre!

FruitynNutty · 17/03/2009 09:47

and I never wear a belt or have anything sharp in that area

brimfull · 17/03/2009 09:47

no belt
nothing sharp
no baby

the mystery continues

I reckon it must be the metal button

unless someone comes and says it happens to them and they only wear elasticated skirts or leggings

Not moths is it?
have noticed small holes on a brand new jumper and it can only be moths.
Have cedarwood oil and an anti moth thing in wardrobe - obviously not working.

Comewhinewithme · 17/03/2009 09:53

Oh this is happening to me too .

It can't be mice living in the laundry can it ?

brimfull · 17/03/2009 09:55

not moths have only had the top about a week ,tis a cheapo new look one though

OP posts:
FruitynNutty · 17/03/2009 09:56

But why would a metal button make such tiny holes? They really look like moth holes but why are they only at the front at the bottom of tops?
Surely moths aren't that fussy (or that clever) about where they eat?

Poledra · 17/03/2009 09:58

I've always thought I've splashed hot oil or something on my tops to cause these little holes (cooking oil, I mean, not engine oil ). I do wear a belt though, so that's probably causing it.

Maveta · 17/03/2009 09:59

It's moths. I think it is something to do with the way you fold them/ leave them in the drawer. Just about all of the tops that this has happened to have the holes at the front/bottom. Or maybe you just don't notice them as much in other places.

brimfull · 17/03/2009 10:00

I really don't think its moths

OP posts:
brimfull · 17/03/2009 10:01

does it happens to everyones clothes in the house?

OP posts:
Buda · 17/03/2009 10:04

I have that too in 2 tops. DH has it in one.

EustaciaVye · 17/03/2009 10:07

For me it wasnt the button jeans but the corner of denim near the button.

upagumtree · 17/03/2009 10:08

I get this a lot too and it ony happens in certain types of material. Jersey type tops and wool. It's always in the same area even though my clothes which this has happened to are stored differently. So I don't think it is moths. I've always blamed my washing machine. But I agree that the mystery continues.

largeginandtonic · 17/03/2009 10:12

It is crap material.

Wasing machines are culprits too but i find tumble dryers even worse. They wear the clothes out in no time.

It is very annoying.

RGPargy · 17/03/2009 10:12

I remember the original thread! I think it was concluded that when you put your washing machine on a 1600 spin, it pulls little bits of your clothes through the holes in the drum and sometimes this can cause little tiny holes in the clothes. If i have something nice in my machine i reduce the spin speed down to 1200 and i have to admit it's not happened since.......

Maveta · 17/03/2009 10:14

oooh ooh look at the first comment after this post!

Maveta · 17/03/2009 10:15

I feel an experiment coming on! My mum had me so convinced it was moths (damn that money spent on anti moth products!!).

RGPargy · 17/03/2009 10:15

haha!! A good theory but my holes were always in different places!

JohnnyTwoHats · 17/03/2009 10:16

I thought it was bra hooks. Hasn't happened since I bought a bra protector thingumy from John Lewis

Maveta · 17/03/2009 10:17

dammit

WilyWombat · 17/03/2009 10:19

I assumed it was my belt, it doesnt happen much but there is one belt in particular I decided was the culprit.

upagumtree · 17/03/2009 11:01

I bought net lingerie bags for the washing machine. Any jumpers/ favourite tops/clothes etc that I want to keep in good condition are put in these bags and then into the washing machine. I haven't had any problems sine doing this. It is a PITA but well worth it to preserve your good clothes. I bought them for 99p each in Morrissons. Well worth it!
