Mind you Beatrice and Eugenie didn't look that great either IMHO, apart from the hats... (the blurred figure in the background of that pic looked best).

OP posts:

Is the blurred figure in the background of the Beatrice/Eugenie photo Kate Middleton?

Whoever it is looks fine, stylish and appropriate for a formal occasion, standing about on cold day.

That MP's wife's outfit is just minging. I have no words to express the awfulness of the shoe/dress/coast combo there. Dark 15 denier tights make it even worse.

Beatrice, Eugenie, Camilla and Sophie all look a right state as well though.

BonsoirAnna · 25/02/2009 13:47

Agree, Georgimama - Kate M looks very appropriately dressed.

The princesses look frightful.

beanieb · 25/02/2009 13:50

If it is Kate Middleton, why did she come as Mary Poppins?

belgo · 25/02/2009 13:51

She looks stunning. Far better then the royals. And I don't see the problem with the colour.

georgimama · 25/02/2009 13:53

Actually reviewing it, I've decided the very worst part of that outfit is the bizarre floppy straw hat. Did she think the occasion demanded a hat, and that was the only one she owned?

The corsage is also terrible but the hat just about pips it.

georgimama · 25/02/2009 13:54

Belgo you can't be serious.

BonsoirAnna · 25/02/2009 13:54

No the shoes and the length of the dress versus the length of the coat are even more terrible than the hat (but agree that it is a very close contest...)

georgimama · 25/02/2009 13:56

Yes it is pretty basic stuff, short dress = short coat.

abraid · 25/02/2009 13:58

The Queen looks the best of the bunch, I'd say.

Actually (don't choke everyone and try and disengage politically because this is a sartorial comment only) the one woman this country has produced who could consistently dress well for public occasions, was Margaret Thatcher. Which is strange because she never seemed to have much interest in the more feminine side of life.

squeaver · 25/02/2009 13:58

Oh who gives a shit what Liz Jones thinks.

The woman is a pain in the arse. I wish someone would write a feature on what a horrible, spiteful, self-obsessed woman with the attitude of a 13 year in the playground she is.

squeaver · 25/02/2009 13:59

I like Sarah Brown's hat btw.

sassy · 25/02/2009 14:03

squeaver - someone did. Her exH wrote reams of stuff about what a shallow self-obsessed etc type she was while they were playing their split out in the media. It was all rather grubby

I like the patent shoes though not for this sort of occasion. And the princesses look but they are 20 yo and experimenting. kate M is so safe (in every way)

sassy · 25/02/2009 14:05

And Camilla's posture She looks so hockey-playing horsey gal does't she!!

BonsoirAnna · 25/02/2009 14:06

I actually think Camilla looks fine, and that despite her massive norks extremely matronly figure.

squeaver · 25/02/2009 14:06

Oh yes, he's an arse too. She deserved everything she got in that relationship.

sassy · 25/02/2009 14:10

Ooh no, Camilla looks fine (fellow carrier of enormous norks here) but she always stands like a boarding school gym mistress somehow. I actually like Camilla - she seems as if she is probably a lot more fun than her sainted predecessor IMO

blinks · 25/02/2009 14:13

Liz Jones always looks horrid in her publicity photos so you can imagine how grim she looks without assistance.

How she feels best placed to critique fashion is beyond me.

atowncalledalice · 25/02/2009 14:26

I dislike the crocheted dress. It's far too short (God, I sound like an old prude). The coat is actually quite nice, imo.

Wizzska · 25/02/2009 14:31

Liked Sophie's look. MrsSeanBean, I think that's Kate Middleton in the background of the Beatrice pic.

MamacitaGordita · 25/02/2009 14:40

I think it's the hat that takes the biscuit really. And the tights. But there's nothing wrong with colour.

And might I just say I love that diamond brooch the Queen has on.... drooooool

izyboy · 25/02/2009 14:41

It 's the idea that if you cant get your 'hemline' right, how can you possibly get anything of importance right. Makes me laugh out load!! Such self important twaddle!

FlorenceAndtheWashingMachine · 25/02/2009 14:48

I think that Frankie Burnham looks rather fabulous (apart from the too long coat). She looks pretty and has a very individual look. In sharp contrast, Liz Jones looks bloody awful very time I see her in print (bitchy emoticon ).

I don't understand why you have to be 'sombre' to attend the unveiling of a memorial for a woman who lived a long and very happy life. Surely it's a celebration?

PuppyMonkey · 25/02/2009 14:52

The Queen Mum looks a lot like her Spitting Image incarnation in the actual memorial, imho.

georgimama · 25/02/2009 15:00

You don't have to be sombre.

You do have to observe basic rules, like not wearing a crocheted white mini dress with black 15 denier tights, a long pink coat, red patent shoes, a floppy straw hat and a big floppy red corsage.

It is a dreadful outfit. It isn't that it isn't appropriate for the occasion - it isn't appropriate for any occcasion. I can't think why anyone would put all those things together.

Marthasmama · 25/02/2009 15:07

That red coat she's wearing is about 10 years old! It's from Karen Millen and I bought one in the sale! I gave it away to charity after I realised it was one of those 'for the sake of it' purchases.
