I hope you are not too old.......I'm 38 and still wearing them I think its a lot to do with attitude - dont fuss with your hemline and walk tall. Can't go wrong imo. Also, would only wear short in winter with opaques or in the summer with a decent tan

What are you planning to put on your legs and feet?

Personally I can't stand short skirts with bare legs in winter on any age.

CrackerNut · 18/02/2009 22:30

Your are not too old BH, nowhere near it.

You don't look your age and have a figure that can wear anything so go for it.

ABetaDad · 18/02/2009 22:30

My wife would say 'on the knee'.

I say its the cut of the hips and the shoulder and bust that matter for a woman in her 30s.

lou33 · 18/02/2009 22:34

i am 42 and still wear them

i will continue to until i become aware of stifled laughter or outright pointing and staring open mouthed

or until i think they dont suit me anymore

but it will have nothing to do with thinking i cant over a certain age

kidcreoleandthecoconuts · 18/02/2009 22:35

If you've got good legs then go for it....but not toooo short!!

My skirts were so short in my early 20's that I had to wear hotpants underneath!

solidgoldbullet4myvalentine · 18/02/2009 22:36

I'm 44 and still wear short skirts sometimes. But I have always been vain about my legs...

cmotdibbler · 19/02/2009 01:51

It's def what you wear them with that makes the difference - boots and opaques rather than sheer tights or bare legs and heels

twentypence · 19/02/2009 06:45

I feel too old at 36, another lady at school is 10 years older and looks fantastic.

higgle · 19/02/2009 07:43

Well, I'm 52 and I still wear them, but only with boots or thick tights or in the summer (not at work in summer) short petite people look better in shorter skirts.

BitOfFun · 19/02/2009 07:58

Depends on the length, I think, and your legs...if it looks teenage outrageous short, then no matter how good your legs are, it seems a bit attention-seeking and therefore inappropriate IMO, just because a woman in their thirties should project inner confidence rather than shock tactics (in my rather snobby opinion!). Think French classy rather than Jodie Marsh...so above the knee can look great, but mid-thigh and up is a bit Lily Savage. Just my thoughts!

AnyFucker · 19/02/2009 08:24

I wear shortish skirts and sweater dresses(mid-thigh and lower) with thick tights and boots. I am 40+

Never with bare legs or sandals away from the beach, on holiday.

ABetaDad, you have a curiously old-fashioned view of womens fashion.

"The cut of the shoulder and bust?" Goodness me

BitOfFun · 19/02/2009 08:52

Nothing wrong with a well-cut frock, anyfucker...

AF, Have you seen the pic on my profile? It is of a man selling a table on eBay- can you tell how we know this??

blueshoes · 19/02/2009 09:32

I am deffo too old, 40.

Even though I am young looking and am still asked to produce ID when I buy alcohol at the supermarket.

inthemistsoftime · 19/02/2009 10:01

I wear skirts just above the knee, with boots and opague tights, and I am 43.

I think it how you wear it rather that the length.

BitOfFun · 19/02/2009 10:03

Bum-skimming still looks trashy though.

MrsBadger · 19/02/2009 10:04

with opaque tights and good legs you can get away with a lot - my mother still looks good in tailored skirts 3-4" above the knee

Blossom, be very careful if your dress is low cut and/or short-sleeved though - too much flesh on show is always ageing.

SilentTerror · 19/02/2009 10:23

Mid thigh with thick tights/leggings and bobots in winter, few inches above knee in summer with tan and flats.
Am 42.
Never with sheer tights/heels now,am afraid!

VictorianSqualor · 19/02/2009 10:31

I'm 28 and I wouldn't wear a skirt more than about 3-4 inches above the knee. So, IMO, depends just how short it is. Also, how long your legs are makes the difference on how high above the knee, I have a 34" inside leg, so 3-4 inches allows a lot of leg to be covered by skirt
Again, always wear opaques unless it's sunny, you have a tan and you've moisturised your legs.

OracleInaCoracle · 19/02/2009 10:37

agree, short skirts with thick or opaque tights and flat boots/shoes look fab, but stay clear of heels.

im wearing a knitted mini dress with a clothkitts-style pattern today with thick tights and black bbots, and despite being surrounded by nubile young things at uni havent been the subject of pointing and laughing yet!

TheRealMrsJohnSimm · 19/02/2009 13:58

Do you think the style of dress and the occasion can affect the heels or flats choice in winter? (FWIW, I would never wear short dress and heels in summer.....am thinking purely winter wear).

For example, I wouldn't wear heels with a short dress during the day but I probably would for a night out, always with opaques and never sheers.

Equally, I would never wear a short dress that could remotely be described as "body con" but I would wear a tunic style or something tailored/fitted but not tight.

Agree with AF about the wearing of short skirts/bare tanned legs in beach areas only. I prefer to wear them rather than shorts but would not be seen wafting along our local high street in one!

Jumbs · 19/02/2009 14:19

I agree with a short skirt/dress ok provided too much flesh not on show in other areas, away from the beach that is.

I think confidence is the other thing, if you don't feel confident in it you wont' look good.

I've been wearing a short (mid thigh) dress with wooly tights and boots. But am thinking at 35 yrs old and 35wks pg its possibly time to stop

georgiemum · 19/02/2009 14:27

Didn't you see Kylie last night? She's 40!

ABetaDad · 19/02/2009 14:43

Some parts of Kylie are 40 and some parts are more recent additions.
