somedays i don't bother to look nice don't wear make up. do much with my hair or wear nice clothes.

i only wash my hair every 2 days [should i do it everyday?] so some days it looks a right state, i put it up in a poytail, and its all knotted.
i put my glasses on as i can't be bothered to wear my contcats, wear no make up, make no effort with clothes.
or nails or brows.

i think my hairs sometimes the trampyist thing when it gets all knotted.

I think you should brush your hair properly! Washing hair every other day is fine.
Put mascara on as a minimum.
Clothes: jeans, nice boots and a few decent tops will make all the difference. How old are you, what styles do you like?

mrshamiltiongiles · 12/02/2009 17:58

i'm 30, i'd like to wear femineme stuff or jeans and nice tops

White Stuff has some fantastic tops in a the moment. I personally think the key is layering. If you can get a few basic tight fitting long sleeved tops (preferably scooped or V- necks) in a variety of colours you can mix and match alot of your clothes over the top of them, including more summery thinga. If you are on a limited budget go for block colours you can accessorise with funky jewellery for variety. Where do you live?

mrshamiltiongiles · 12/02/2009 18:07

I live in buckinghamshire.
good range of shops so no excuses there
I'm not very good with accessorising at all.

good budget
so no excuses there either.

I find the easiest thing to wear is jersey dresses. They just pull on over a pair of tights and you instantly look as if you've made an effort.

Buy 7 different ones and wash til they die. Makes your wardrobe pretty cheap too as you don't need to have loads of clothes.

I bought this one today in Monsoon:

mrshamiltiongiles · 12/02/2009 18:12

yes thats the sort of thing i'd like to wear.
what sort of tights will you wear with it and what accessorisies

Right. Go to Mistral. There is a shop in Marlow (44 high street). They are a good starting point. I am taking a leap of faith because I haven't been to that particular store but the one I have been in has always had helpful staff and lots of great ideas on display around the shop as to how to wear their clothes. It's more interesting than Kew and less patterned than White Stuff (their website is shite though...you can't have everything)

Don't be afraid of wearing colours. If you can afford to have your colours 'done' - look on last minute.com for a cheaper deal on a colour me beautiful consultant. It gives you the confidence to wear colours you may have dismissed before and really helps get you out of a rut.

Jersey dresses fine if you have no lumps or bumps, otherwise, approach with caution. I'd wear with opaque tights and funky flat boots for school run.

mrshamiltiongiles · 12/02/2009 18:14

i didn't know you could get one of those off last minute, i'll look now

I'm a size 18 so plenty of lumps and bumps I wear them with black opaques and knee length boots.

I'm a big jewellery fan and there's plenty matching jewellery in Accessorize. I make my own.

GaspodTheWonderDog · 12/02/2009 18:17

Seriously Laurie? I'm size 12 (with plenty of lumps and bumps) but generally find jersey dresses very unflattering.

GaspodTheWonderDog · 12/02/2009 18:18

I'm with you on the jewellery. So many places have fab stuff now (White Stuff had tonnes today...sorry to harp on but when in their this morning!) I make my own too.

LauriefairycakeeatsCupid · 12/02/2009 18:19

The Monsoon ones have plenty of material so they tend to skim. I like wrap-around ones too, I have the Artigiano www.artigiano.co.uk one and wear camisoles underneath as very large of nork (38H/J)

GaspodTheWonderDog · 12/02/2009 18:21

I have a good wrap one from Bravissimo (also reasonably large of nork) but I don't wear it that often as it's more of an evening one.

GaspodTheWonderDog · 12/02/2009 18:22

Where are you Mrs H?! We have more bossing to do wisdom to impart here. WISDOM I tell you

SilentTerror · 12/02/2009 18:32

Agree with jersey tunics/dresses.
I wear long sleeved tops in variety of colours, atm from New Look or uniqlo, with either skiiny jeans and boots or leggings and boots.i fthe dress is nearer Knee length I wear opaques with wedges, ballet flats or boots.
In summer I swap vests/camisoles for the tops, wear White Stuff/Fat Face/similar short sleeve/sleeveless tunic/dress over either linen trousers or with bare legs and flats.
I also love wide leg jeans in soft denim.Have a great pair from Monsoon that look good with wedges any time of year.

fishie · 12/02/2009 18:33

gaspod mistral site not that bad. are these things they call dresses not rather short though? are they really, say, mid-thigh and not just micro??

SilentTerror · 12/02/2009 18:47

I have just lookes Fishie, and I was wondering that also!

GaspodTheWonderDog · 12/02/2009 18:52

yy mistral site better than it was but doesn't really do their clothes justice. Going into shop to find out how to mix and match much more useful.

mrshamiltiongiles · 12/02/2009 18:52

I am here.

GaspodTheWonderDog · 12/02/2009 18:52

I'm a short so bet their dresses will be perfect length for me

mrshamiltiongiles · 12/02/2009 19:10

i've just done another thread with a link to a dress i think i like.
