Please talk me out of skinny jeans.

I really want some skinny jeans but I don't know if they will look any good.

I am a size 16(not for long hopefully) but have long thin legs. I am fed up of still wearing my maternity trousers and want to treat myself.

So please tell me to buy normal jeans and to ignore the urge to buy skinny ones!!

Why not wear skinny jeans. If you've got long, thin legs they should look great. Are you pregnant or post-baby? If you're pg they might be a bit uncomfortable. If you're post baby then I'd buy some really cheap ones with a bit of stretch. That's what I did when I was still losing baby weight. I think I got some nice ones in Dorothy Perkins for £15.

CioccolataCalda · 13/01/2009 09:33

yes try them. they may look fab.
Just find a long length mirror that you can stand back against and wear a longish top to help you 'get' the look.

I need to do this too.

kayzr · 13/01/2009 09:34

DH has said I will look daft!!

Post baby. I am on a diet though.

I have seen those £15 ones on the dorothy perkins website that is what has made me think of them.

I've just bought a pair of thes, am also size 16 (post baby, although she is now 1 ) and they actually look quite good to my amazement! I also bought a pair of their £25 ones which are actually nicer. hth!

MrsBadger · 13/01/2009 09:39

if your legs are long and thin but the rest of you is a 16 you will look like Humpty Dumpty

get Gap long & lean

WhereTheWildThingsWere · 13/01/2009 09:39

Skinny jeans and a long loose top will show off your legs and make you look slimmer, go for it.

ramonaquimby · 13/01/2009 09:40

I think skinny jeans look ridiculous on anyone except skinny teenage girls, sorry

2pt4kids · 13/01/2009 09:40

They will make you look much thinner than baggy jeans if you have long skinny legs!!
Lucky you!
I'm a size 10 but I've got short legs with chunky calfs lol

katch · 13/01/2009 09:42

Skinny jeans and a long loose top will make you look like you're trying to hide your arse. Don't go there!

PottyCock · 13/01/2009 09:43

that's what I have thought for the last couple of years ramona, not going to post a photo but mine are actually far more flattering than my normal jeans -they just seem to suit the shape I am these days. Anyway, it's important to feel good about yourself so that's the main thing. I do agree that there are certain items of clothing that only young skinny-beans can get away with, but disagree that skinny jeans can be numbered among them!

PottyCock · 13/01/2009 09:44

it's all to do with how you wear them, innit?

kayzr · 13/01/2009 09:47

I'll try some on and see what they are like. Hopefully they won't be too bad.

hoxtonchick · 13/01/2009 09:49

i am a 16 with long(ish) skinny legs & am a huge fan of skinny jeans. they really suit my shape, dunno why, but they do. i like the uniqlo ones.

PottyCock · 13/01/2009 09:49

Do try them. I didn't for a loong time as I thought they would look shit and only skinny girls could wear them. I wear mine with lovely boots and they look good (objectively).

katch · 13/01/2009 09:56

Why don't you get a nice copped top as well?

katch · 13/01/2009 09:57

Sorry I meant cropped top.

Don't be such a beatch katch, let the lady try them on. It's hardly akin to walking the streets of leith now, is it? Gads, some people are completely mean.

Marthasmama · 13/01/2009 10:01

If you've got the legs go for it! You can always add a baggy top or layer with a dress over the top if you want to cover up your post baby belly (amusing you have one of course) . Skinny jeans look best on skinny legs, no matter what your age. I'm sure Gok reckons that you can carry on wearing skinny jeans into your 40s!

kayzr · 13/01/2009 10:01

I'm not going to bother. I'll look really stupid.

well prada are doing cropped tops this season katch

i'd try on the jeans - i'm small and always wear skinnies as wide or baggy jeans make me look like a dumpy munchkin.

i think its just how you wear them - perhaps a fitted top but long cardigan so its clear you're not still pregnant.

also recommend the marth jeans in topshop which aren't so skinny as some more of a slim fit.

also go up a size if necessary to avoid muffin top.

good luck!
