Heartfelt PLEA - from a broken man

Hi there - again I'm using Mumsnet as a last resort, when I know it should always be my first. Where to begin....?

Last month DW gave me her Christmas list in dribs and drabs. It was down to me to get some stuff for her and farm out the rest to family who wanted to know what she'd like. I raced round and got a few things and the rest I shared out - giving them a bit of a choice so as not to be to grabbingly prescriptive.

Anyway - as a result of giving people a choice, one thing got missed and it turns out it was the thing she wanted the most (unbeknownst to me) - a cardi. In fact when we travelled to my folks' after Christmas, she didn't pack a jumper thinking it'd be under the tree. And she was cold, poor dear.

It's this one from Top Shop (Chunky Roll Neck Short Sleeved Cardi and not a similar one in their Maternity range - heaven forfend!) in Ice Blue or Wine, size 12.

I've sworn to do my best to get her it (she deserves it), but they no longer have it on line and none of the three (massive) Top Shops I've visited have it and I've been told there's little to no chance they will again as they're stocking with Spring lines now. I've tried eBay, but to no avail.

Here's the thing - if you see one that fits the bill on the shelves or sale racks in a TS near you, would you let me know & pick it up for me; or even if you have/received one yourself and aren't really sure about it, would you let me know? Please. I will of course Paypal cost and shipping toot sweet. TIA

Puts me in mind of Denice Royle on her wedding day, sobbing 'all I wanted was for it to be the best day of my life - that's all!'

BigGitGotLovelySoftHandsDad · 09/01/2009 14:30

Okay how about a Top Shop gift voucher then the onus is on her to find it. Failing could a tailor reduce it down in size.
This is getting painful Bear, maybe we ought to go down the pub and drink the worries away....

paddingtonbear1 · 09/01/2009 14:54

Bear have you got one yet?
I think I found one for you, in trafford topshop - went there today, there was 1 size 12 left in teal!
I grabbed it, do you still need it?
In sale for £18.
gotta do school, be back later!

Bear · 09/01/2009 15:59

THANKS paddingtonbear1! Turns out that the link I sent my family was for the Teal one anyway (ie not the Ice Blue or the Wine) so if she had got it at Christmas this is what she'd have got! I'll CAT you to get in touch re swopping details. You're a star. Mille Grazie!

Cheeky hijack alert - that cardigan is just what I was looking for!! if by any slim chance anyone else happened to have got one for Bear in a 12 or 14 and it's now not needed, let me know and I'll buy it off you instead!!

And Bear, you sound lovely, you should run training courses for other DH's in thoughtful gift buying.

Apologies for the shameful hijack.

Bear · 09/01/2009 16:25

Kettlechip the 14's still up on eBay here - but if an Ice Blue or Wine 12 shows up here or in any of my other search avenues in the next few days, I can pass on the Teal 12 that paddingtonbear1 has so kindly grabbed. BTW when she says she "grabbed it", she did mean she 'bought it', didn't she - I'd hate to be some kind of accessory...

Aaah I thought you wanted a Teal, not sure why that stuck in my mind - there weren't any other colours there anyway in that style. And yes I did buy it honest
I don't have CAT I don't think - do you have to pay for that?
Hey this cardi is in demand! Your wife obv made a good choice there

paddingtonbear1 · 09/01/2009 16:39

ah your link was a teal, that must be why.
It's a v nice colour actually, I'd wear it

Bear · 09/01/2009 16:44

I think it's me that needs to pay for CATing (too much like dogging for my liking) and you don't as recipient. My subscription for CAT ran out in July 2007 I am informed, so I'll have to sort that out before I get in touch - bear with me! Ha ha ha ha - bearwith me - sorry, just so happy to be the recipient of good news!

You are my hero bear!! What a man!!

BodyBagBastard · 14/01/2009 17:51

awww paddington what a nice thing to do

MaryBS · 14/01/2009 17:59

I DO love a happy ending!

Bear · 15/01/2009 09:17

well - she loves it - different colour and all! Looks good on her (really brings out the blue in her eyes [smarmy puke smiley]) and is a perfect fit - to all those just cut out the labelers (BigGitDad you know who you are), it would never have worked

anyway - massive thanks to everyone for your help and support at this difficult time - especially paddingtonbear1 who is wonderful - there's a plaice in heaven for her for sure. I owe her and you all - if there's anything I can ever help with, just let me know.

until the next time, hasta la vista ladies.

Bear

ps - nearly forgot, I was passing a local Top Shop (that I had already checked last week) yesterday and nipped in to see if there'd been one returned and there was - a 10 though in the teal, but get this - it was for sale at full price - so not only did pb1 get us one, but cheap too
