Heartfelt PLEA - from a broken man

Hi there - again I'm using Mumsnet as a last resort, when I know it should always be my first. Where to begin....?

Last month DW gave me her Christmas list in dribs and drabs. It was down to me to get some stuff for her and farm out the rest to family who wanted to know what she'd like. I raced round and got a few things and the rest I shared out - giving them a bit of a choice so as not to be to grabbingly prescriptive.

Anyway - as a result of giving people a choice, one thing got missed and it turns out it was the thing she wanted the most (unbeknownst to me) - a cardi. In fact when we travelled to my folks' after Christmas, she didn't pack a jumper thinking it'd be under the tree. And she was cold, poor dear.

It's this one from Top Shop (Chunky Roll Neck Short Sleeved Cardi and not a similar one in their Maternity range - heaven forfend!) in Ice Blue or Wine, size 12.

I've sworn to do my best to get her it (she deserves it), but they no longer have it on line and none of the three (massive) Top Shops I've visited have it and I've been told there's little to no chance they will again as they're stocking with Spring lines now. I've tried eBay, but to no avail.

Here's the thing - if you see one that fits the bill on the shelves or sale racks in a TS near you, would you let me know & pick it up for me; or even if you have/received one yourself and aren't really sure about it, would you let me know? Please. I will of course Paypal cost and shipping toot sweet. TIA

I pass the one in Glasgow every day, so I'll pop in and have a look for you tomorrow.

Bear · 07/01/2009 22:23

nope Doodle2U - she's been through M&S's website with a fine toothed comb, and Next and etc etc - thanks

that second thing's a freakin Tazer isn't it?

thanks MrsM

HallelujahHeisBorntoMary · 07/01/2009 22:30

LOL It DOES look like a Tazer doesn't it? You wouldn't want anyone to use one of those on you!

Best of luck with the search.

Flightattendant7 · 08/01/2009 10:14

We have got a teal size 10.
Well I tried..

Bear · 08/01/2009 11:23

thanks FA7 - but the search continues, I won't rest. Neither hail nor snow, nor darkness, nor infernal powers shall distract me from my task. A 12 in Ice Blue or Wine shall be got, or my name's not Bear.

Go that man

paddingtonbear1 · 08/01/2009 12:43

I am going to trafford tomorrow, i will look there for you!

katch · 08/01/2009 12:49

Will look in our local today.

MrsMuddle · 08/01/2009 16:24

I thought you were in luck - there was one wine-coloured one in Glasgow on the sale rail. I was v excited, and then I looked at the label and it was a teeny weeny size 6.

pamplemousse · 08/01/2009 16:27

I looked in ours today and they only have it in size 6
Good luck!

katch · 08/01/2009 16:30

Sorry no luck.
Why don't you get her a voucher for an image consultant for her birthday?
Then, once she knows the styles amd colours which suit, you could surprise her with things that are just right for her.
Then you'd really be everyone's fantasy H.

Fimbo · 08/01/2009 16:32

Two sixes = 12

BigGitDad · 08/01/2009 16:33

Bear can't you get the size 14 and either cut out the label so she is none the wiser or tumble dry it so it shrinks...?
Piece of cake really...

Neeerly3 · 08/01/2009 16:42

get this and cut the arms off??

katch · 08/01/2009 16:51

What BGD said makes sense: Topshop stuff is sized for teenage girls anyway, and ime most knitted things shrink.

Bear · 08/01/2009 20:57

ta Mrs M and Pamplemousse. I'm truly grateful.

BGD - she won't let me near the tumble drier with any of her clothes. Going there before I even given her the cardi is just asking for trouble.

Neerly - that's the puppy, only would it really look as good with just hacked-off sleeves?

Katch - I know that, you know that, but she asked for 12 and I will deliver a 12. That's what's going to happen.

thanks again everyone

Oh for heaven's sake. BGD is a genius! Get a seamstress (local drycleaner's?) to cut out the 14 label (s) and replace with a 12 (just get a really cheap vest or summat in 12). She's not actually so obsessive that she's going to check the reference numbers on the label, surely?
And bonus - she'll think she's lost weight!

HelenBurns · 09/01/2009 06:27

This is actually a bit scary. I can picture washing lines being scoured citywide and OP swiping someone's cardi.

It could happen!

Bear · 09/01/2009 09:25

I've already checked HB, no-one's got any washing out round here - it'd be frozen solid the minute you pegged it out. FGS I'd swipe it off someone wearing it if I had the chance (after checking her size first, politely of course).

Re the label thing - she'd know - she always knows. It's a sixth sense she has. Or it's a guilty look I must have - I can get nothing past her.

I would but I can't find a blue alpaca round here

Crumbs. is your dw stamping her foot because her list wasn't fulfilled or are you just incredibly kind?

The sales are on, if she wants a cardi and didn't get one for Christmas, off she pops.

(Cross as did not get diamond earrings which were ON MY LIST weren't they???)

deaconblue · 09/01/2009 11:35

I shall show this to my DH who asked me for a list, then complained that he couldn't find anything on it in our local Tesco, then got nothing from the list for me for Xmas! I did, however, get a nice new washbag I didn't need and a Duffy cd that was on HIS xmas list!!!

Sunflower100 · 09/01/2009 11:48

Oh Bear I hope she knows how lucky she is.

HelenBurns · 09/01/2009 12:00

...and how famous she is!
