Ok, I'm 34 and the words "mutton" and "lamb" probably spring to mind but I don't care, Zoe Ball is older than me and gets away with it!!

Just need advice as to what top/killer shoes to wear with them as this will be my staple going out outfir for the next year (so prob only be worn about 6 times)

Advice please ladies...

Lauriefairyonthetreeeatscake · 03/01/2009 19:32

thisisyesterday · 03/01/2009 19:33

LoveMyLapTop · 03/01/2009 19:34

A long sparkly belted off the shoulder top
and very high heels
nd lots of talcum powder in the crotch?

brimfull · 03/01/2009 19:34

how tall are you?

needs heels if you are any shorter than 5'7 Id say

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 03/01/2009 19:35

They were inexplicably fashionable this autumn/winter.

Did you get them in the sale by any chance?

Seriously, even Cheryl Cole looked a sight in them, return the feckers and buy yourself a nicec lassic dress.

cocolepew · 03/01/2009 19:35

Marigolds

minxofmancunia · 03/01/2009 19:36

well kind of black shiny stretchy material, OBVIOUSLY I want a long loose top to go with, anything short/tight would look ridiculous/tarty.

Seen lots of people waering them round here ona night out, all looking pretty classy believe it or not,

Thanks for advice laurie rather than incredulous/snidey comment

Someone else posted on here a while back on the same issue.

Samsonara suggested a mid-thigh, or slightly higher, tunic top in a light fabric. I think she was right.

I went shopping a couple of weeks ago and there were several women in these. The best outfit award went to someone wearing what Samsonara suggested. Oddly enough, she looked slightly Audrey Hepburnish, but with a punk-ish twist. She had a classy scarf too. And neat shoes.

Second best was a student, wearing them with ankle boots and a long-ish jumper.

Basically, they're like black skinnies but with an added splash of edgy/sexy factor, like PVC trousers. The dressing issue is about balancing that extra factor out with the other stuff you wear, so that you don't look like an ageing crusty. A bit of neatness/primness/irony will play down the e/s quotient.

zenandtheartofbaking · 03/01/2009 21:37

Oh, and I suggested a look through All Saints for taking them in a goth direction.

But that was roundly mocked.

LiffeyAnnaLivia · 03/01/2009 22:03

So you're blessed with a lean figure and perfect height, and you're going to ruin that by wearing............. rubber leggings!?

OK!

donnie · 03/01/2009 22:09

yes, a spiked pvc balaclava would probably go quite well. Plus handcuffs and a mace. Have you watched that Dunlop advert recently?

minxofmancunia · 03/01/2009 22:28

they're not rubber they're rubber effect, lycra with a kind of sheeny finish to them!

Thanks for your comments Zen I was thinking a tunic and had a quick look round all saints after I bought them and saw some interesting things.

I've seen people looking like that too Zen, I haven't seen anyone out in them with their tits out or anything horrible like that, just cool.

I've got some platform ankle boots that look quite good, it's just the top now....

Interesting that some people here think it's automatically a passport to auditionning to be a dominatrix or similar....

and with my lean figure and perfect height what should I be wearing then????

F**kING boden!!!

Hey I'd wear them but my legs would probably look like that dog food you get in tubes. Aptly named chubb! . What about a nice slinky jersey top? you can get some nice subtle metallicy(sp) ones.

Thomcat · 03/01/2009 22:39

Me - I'd wear huge sloppy joe loose knit jumper and shoe/boots.

LoveMyLapTop · 03/01/2009 22:40

minx
If I could wear them with my stocky welshlegs i would !#sirius I love your analogy, sadly that is what my cankles would look lik too.
minx - we are all jealous who wouldn't wan t to be 5'8' and a size 8?

Thomcat · 03/01/2009 22:42

Do you mind you arse being on show or would you prefer to downplay look?

I think a waist length top would not be the right look, I think something that will slink over thighs would be good.
