BUT it's mucho dinero!

find me one like this but cheaper?

I DO walk a lot, and I don't always have the car......

TheNewsMongrel · 27/11/2008 19:19

Thanks Jacksmama, It's nearly the same, but it's not insulated! I need insulated! I'm in Ireland not UK, and brrrrr I'm COLD.

If I find one I like on a Canadian website, could I order it to your address and pay you the postage?

Daft question, but is a Canadian dollar worth the same as an American dollar

OP posts:
Jacksmama · 27/11/2008 19:35

Of course you can order it and have it sent to me. I'll repack it and post it to you so you don't have to pay duty. No problem!! The Canadian dollar was on par with the American dollar most of the early part of the year but since the economic crisis, it has dropped again, it's now at about 80 cents to the US$. Here is the Universal Currency Converter.
Let me know if you find one, you can CAT me.

KatieDD · 27/11/2008 20:06

I am still considering this one : - www.outdoorandcountry4aigle.co.uk/newproduct.aspx?ProductStyleID=107724&CategoryID=1807

TheNewsMongrel · 27/11/2008 20:50

Thanks a million Jacksmama! I'm still browsing, but that's a very kind offer and I really appreciate it.

OP posts:
Jacksmama · 27/11/2008 20:53

You're most welcome! I hope you find something warm and toasty!!

MascaraOHara · 27/11/2008 21:04

that looks gorgeous but at price.. even by my spending habits

TheNewsMongrel · 27/11/2008 21:09

I know, it's expensive isn't it? But I don't have a car, and if I did, I'd be warmer but spending loads of money on petrol..... so I think I might have to justify a warm coat!

Katie, that Aigle one is very similar to the north face metropolis parka. (i'm such an expert now!) Wonder if it has a hood.

OP posts:
samsonara · 27/11/2008 21:29

Saw this in Principles and tried it on, I'm not sure about the gold buttons, but the fabric looks like it would shrug off the rain and keep you warm as has a fleece lining, it has a hood too
here

KatieDD · 27/11/2008 21:56

It does have a hood, I am praying for a sale because I just bought an Animal ski jacket but it's not very stylish, though it is warm.

cremolafoam · 27/11/2008 22:04

?

TheNewsMongrel · 27/11/2008 22:23

Good websites, keep em coming.

Just spotting this one on Gant. So much cheaper than north face, and yetr warm and waterproof and practically the same, and comes in more colours!!!

Like this one

OP posts:
TheNewsMongrel · 27/11/2008 22:25

OP posts:
navyeyelasH · 27/11/2008 22:36

Jacksmama · 27/11/2008 22:36

I was going to suggest Lands End or Eddie Bauer.

TheNewsMongrel · 27/11/2008 22:56

Thanks a million for your help everybody. Mumsnet is brilliant.

ordered this one

and if it weren't for this thread, I'd have ordered a much more expensive one.

I am not dreading January so much now!

OP posts:
TheNewsMongrel · 27/11/2008 22:58

In Navy not brown though.

OP posts:
puffling · 27/11/2008 23:03

How about Uniqlo for £79.99?
here

TheCrackFox · 27/11/2008 23:03

NewsMongrel, I have just ordered it in black. Came back from the school run absolutely freezing (in Edinburgh) and it took me hours to warm up. I just thought, "sod it, I don't let the DCs freeze about time I thought of myself for a change".

I will report back when it has arrived to let you all know if it is worth the £90 [gulp emoticon]

TheNewsMongrel · 27/11/2008 23:05

You ordered the same one? The landsend one? I have just realised (after pressing click) that it's not waterproof...

BUT it would take the rain a while to sink through it I hope.

Let me know when it arrives!

OP posts:
katch · 27/11/2008 23:11

Have just been looking at www.esprit.co.uk - they have loads.
They look fine for walking the dog, to which activity they should be confined, imo.

TheCrackFox · 27/11/2008 23:13

Arse, never mind my DCs are out of buggies now so [whisper] I can use an umbrella for any deluges.

katch · 27/11/2008 23:19

Or as part of a crack anti-terrorist squad.

Benjy · 29/11/2008 17:32

I was torn between this coat and the Land's End Delancey coat and posted about both a while back. Majority opinion against NOrth Face coat: hated belt and thought logo naff. Thought that might make you feel better as you've settled on an alternative. It is much nicer imo. Looking forward to my Delancey coat arriving.

Here is a link to the thread. It includes a link to TrekPlus, who are based in Jersey and sell the North Face jacket for just under £150 for anyone who is still interested in buying it.

TheNewsMongersGeansaiNollag · 29/11/2008 18:33

That one is waterproof too Benjy. I intended to get a waterproof and warm one. Got sidetracked.

Benjy · 29/11/2008 19:23

I did mean that the one you had chosen to buy is nicer than the NOrth Face one just in case you thought I meant the reverse. I had never come across Lands End until I started reading the Style threads. Absolutely love teh look of their coats. I had also considered teh coat you've chosen but needed something waterproof too.
