Do you think expensive jeans make a difference?

I used to wear levis (501s) but over the years have switched to cheaper no brand jeans. Even the stretch ones tend to bag and fall down my hips.

The favourite of my current jeans are actually some black and pink stitching from Tesco.

Was thinking of trying levis again but wondered whether really it would be better to try to get some designer brands (prob from ebay as I am not that flush).

I like bootleg and sometimes boyfriend fit.

What do you think - it it worth paying more?

Yes I think it is definitely worth paying more and buying fewer pairs. I only own 1 pair at the moment - '7 for all mankind' - which cost about £150 and were a Christmas pressie last year. They are mega-flattering and comfortable to wear. The more expensive brands seem to have little details that really make a difference, like shading to make your legs look slimmer, and pockets positioned to flatter your bum, as well as a cut which somehow seems to lift your bum. I know £150 sounds a lot, but by the time you've bought 3 less satisfactory pairs you have spent nearly the same and don't get as much wearing pleasure IMO.

ilovejonty · 25/11/2008 13:04

PS Beware there are a lot of fake designer jeans there...

ilovejonty · 25/11/2008 13:05

On Ebay I meant (sorry!)

MinkyBorage · 25/11/2008 13:06

all my jeans wear through on the knees.now that never used to happen before I had children. I would find it very depressing having to wear £150 jeans with knee patches!

girlandboy · 25/11/2008 13:09

I could get 10 pairs of jeans for £150!!

The more expensive ones may well be better, but I certainly couldn't justify it.

For some reason, my left leg always wears through, so I have a permanently scuffed jeans knee.

TheGoat · 25/11/2008 13:11

i have 7 jeans they are fab, i have worn them almost constantly for a year and they still look great. i didn't pay anything like 150 for them but tbh i would for a replacement pair.

RamblingRosa · 25/11/2008 13:24

I always get amazing jeans from Zara and Topshop and don't really understand why anyone would pay more than £40 when there are so many great cheap jeans out there? I've tried on pricier jeans and I don't see what the fuss is about.

If you do want some designer jeans why not try T K Maxx? They often have 7 and Earl and the like for £30 or £40.

JustKeepSwimming · 25/11/2008 13:26

I have a pair from George on £3

The more expensive may well be better but for £3 i don't think you can go too far wrong

JumpingDizzy · 25/11/2008 13:31

The best ones I have I got free from my friend as she'd put weight on. Per una from M&S they fit great and people always comment on the.

JKS George are great aren't they

ilovejonty · 25/11/2008 13:33

Topshop jeans would not go up far past my knees sadly They don't cater for the big of bum (do they?)

Have never been to a TK Maxx but clearly need to!!

JumpingDizzy · 25/11/2008 13:36

TK Maxx is great too, get yourself there ilovejonty.

triffictits · 25/11/2008 13:46

I have had jeans from everywhere and last year bought my first pair of 7's - I now have 4 pairs! I love them and think that they really do make a difference - they still look new after constant wearing - I have another pair of 7's on my Christmas wish list!

Do beware on ebay - I once ordered some from there and they were fake - there are lots of fakes on there.

MinkyBorage · 25/11/2008 13:54

apart from if you are paying £3 for a pair of jeans, make no mistake about it, someone, somewhere is getting very ripped off!

hauntedcitylover · 25/11/2008 13:58

Thanks all forgot about TK Maxx I need to get back there too.

I have never ever paid as little as £3 for a pair of jeans - I think the lowest is £15.

Another vote for 7s here - they make me feel so good and I never fail to get a compliment when I have them on. Well worth the money

MadreInglese · 25/11/2008 14:03

hula hula HU-LA

hula hula HU-LA

(New Look £10, best fit ever)

Tillyscoutsmum · 25/11/2008 14:05

Can I ask a question about 7's please ? I was going to get a pair, tried some on in Selfridges and was told they only came in 34" leg length. They were too long and would have lost the "bootcut" look if they'd been taken up...

Do they only come in 34" ? Are you all really tall !?

ilovejonty · 25/11/2008 14:13

Oh yeah....! The length is a real pain. I am a short-arse (or so my dh charmingly tells me) so I had to shorten mine. I took up about 4 inches and I don't think it has made much difference to the shape, maybe a bit les flared than if they hadn't been altered, but IMO they still look good. (If you re-hem with orange thread it looks as if they haven't been altered as well.)

TheGoat · 25/11/2008 14:29

yes, why do they make them so long?

southeastastra · 25/11/2008 14:34

becasue they only want leggy women to wear them.

the price of levis now is ridiculous. they used to be about £50 now £80 ish.

i wouldn't pay £150 for jeans.

RamblingRosa · 25/11/2008 14:48

Give us leggy ladies a break! We have the opposite problem. The reason I get all my jeans at Zara and Topshop (Tall range) is that they're the only places that do jeans long enough for me. I'm not a giant or anything (5"8)...I just find normal jeans end up flapping round my ankles

Ico · 25/11/2008 14:55

Some great indigo ones in Primark at the mo for £6

Tillyscoutsmum · 25/11/2008 15:12

You see - I did quite like the shape of the 7's - they felt pretty good but if I was paying £150 for them, I wouldn't want to be messing around with getting them taken up etc. I'm 5' 7" - so not "short" by most people's standards. I don't understand why they can't make a couple of different lengths

Saying that - even if they were the right length, I'm not sure they were 15 times better than my Hula's

widgypog · 25/11/2008 16:40

I went to selfridges jeans dept at weekend and tried on lots of jeans , not one pair under £150 , some more like £300. If they made me look better I would have bought them but to be honest I am 5ft 1 abd size 8 with a jlo bum and there is nothing that can make me look taller and more in proportion.
I usually but Diesel jeans and I went back to them and bought a pair of Ronhar for £100 and they really do make my bum look lovely and slimmer so I am on the fence.
To me I dont care how much something cost but if it fits then I will buy it.

samsonara · 25/11/2008 17:21

Now wouldn't it be great to have a go at this
here, they have one at Selfridges in Oxford Street. Last pair I bought was a fair trade organic pair from Tesco, which were a nice dark indingo colour and good fit.
