Come on everyone, I know you're all sick but pick up your beds and walk this way

The rules (anyone can join):

  • Sunscreen at all times;
  • No or little booze - it's allowed at the weekend if you want it;
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible, 30 mins if you can;
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day;
  • Apply body cream as often as possible;
  • Use hand cream;
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if poss;
  • Eat healthily;
  • Be happy.

The idea is that we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage.

Some people are doing India and Neris's Idiot Proof Diet (Atkins, more or less), others are doing Slimy World, others are just being as healthy as possible.

IDEA - for those of us who struggle with low mood for whatever reason - try to post five achievements here each day, however tiny.

Welcome everyone, have a good week.

How did her mri go? (I'm sorry if you posted before and I missed it.)

JJJr got a Wii Fit for Christmas. He wanted it and having played with it a few days it looks like it will actually help him! It's all balance-y and very low impact.

Yes, agree with 'manage time better'. Not sure how to even start on that...

moonshine · 28/12/2008 18:50

Hello - can i bring in a new member - their posting name is Myarse and it thinks it is now big enough to have an independent life.

I had a lovely Christmas - kids were pleased with presents, we ate and drank well and, most importantly, everyone was well for the first Christmas in years.

But I have realised that the devil's helpers are not chocs and wine but Baileys and panettone (with a combined calorie count of a zillion I believe).

JJ - so glad to hear jnr is beginning to thrive (although the older I get the more protective and worried I get and the less I like contact sports).

Saggars - hope Christmas wasn't too miserable without dh.

JJ - I'm with you on losing that last bit of weight (although I suspect my bit is bigger than yours, without wanting to boast!)

My other NY resolutions are to be more prudent all round with money and food. And to read more books. And to become more detached from office politics. And to try and be more of a 'half full' than a 'half empty' glass person, although I suspect that would involve a personality transplant). And, to paraphrase the Smiths, not give my valuable time to people who don't care if I live or die.

JJ · 28/12/2008 19:28

Hee hee hee at Myarse. My son just asked me what was so funny, eek! When I say "bit" I mean "quite a bit" as in at least 1 stone, ideally 2. It's just that I have already lost four, so the end is in sight. Is there a joke in "the end is in sight"? I seem to think so but can't find it.

Moonshine, your NY resolutions sound good, too.

Do you know I just read eemie's first post properly and it says "try to post five achievements here each day, however tiny". I do this irregularly - well, I do at least three and it really helps. Can we start properly in the New Year? Mine today are:
-- rang my mom and talked for over an hour (am expat in UK and she's in the US)
-- did food order with input from boys who are each making dinner one night this week (in theory)
-- straightened up a bit
-- caught up with a friend
-- posted update on ds1 to facebook for family

VanessaParody · 29/12/2008 00:32

Todays achievements include getting through 2 hours of HSM Party at full volume (I feel very sorry for children with Christmas birthdays, as DH has one and loathes it, so I felt obliged to take DS1 AND stay to help). I also mucked out despite the fact that I have another cold. Which may affect my planned triumphant return to running next week.

JJ - lovely to hear the positive news about JJjr - I think you & saggars are right regarding him getting fit when he starts looning about again.

New thread next week for when the kids go back d'you think?

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 29/12/2008 11:43

Christmas Day was OK thanks and Boxing Day was fab - dinner was much more relaxed than usual

JJ the MRI went fine (although she was in the machine for an age) , thanks for asking. The results were inconclusive though and we're back in hossie in February for cardiac catheter (angiogram under GA).

Dd had a wii for Christmas and I think we'll get the wii fit. The wii sports has proved that my hand/eye coordination is crap.

Arf @ 'MyArse' - Agree New Year, New Thread.

JJ · 29/12/2008 20:57

Oh, sorry to hear about another hospital stay! I hope it goes well.

I had to wait to post today as I had done nothing until I helped my youngest make corn dogs for dinner. They were very very good (deep fried) and we made deep fried corn fritters as well. I might just keel over now if that's ok with everyone.

It doesn't hurt so much if one has a bit of padding on oneself.

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 02/01/2009 14:31

So.....has anyone started bootcamp 2009 or are you waiting til Monday?

I've got a stinking cold so still have an excuse to eat comfort food, do no exercise and have medicinal alcohol. I have done my hands and feet two days running though and drunk a fair bit of water.

unknownrebelbang · 02/01/2009 14:42

It has to be Monday, doesn't it?

I too have a cold, so am still comfort-eating(baaad girl)...must must must get back on track.

I'm enjoying using the wii-fit. And we're all enjoying wii-sport (KO the opponent on my very first attempt boxing, woohoo!) Will combine that with the exercise bike and a bit of walking (am currently having to drive for the school-run at the moment). DS1 wants to start swimming again, so may rejoin the club, although when he/we're supposed to fit that in....

Glad to hear JJjr is ok JJ.

Happy New Year, one and all.

moonshine · 02/01/2009 14:57

Happy New Year all!

Saggars - 'feed' a cold isn't it? I am back to bootcamping with A Vengeance...but not until Monday as well. I am easing myself in I think as I'm not sure my body can take the cold turkey (have had quite enough of that, boom boom [tumbleweed in the manner of Vic Reeves/Shooting Stars]). But will be frustrated for the first 2.5 weeks of Jan as, for various reasons, I will not be able to go to the gym. Still, can't use that as an excuse as Spring is just round the corner and creme eggs are already in the shop .

JJ - losing 4 stones is fab - did you manage that all last year?

I need to lose 1.5 stones to get to a healthy bmi, would like to lose a few more pounds as a 'cushion' and then I would like to stop obsessing about being thinner and enjoy just being whatever shape I am (another NY resolution). And hopefully less weight will equal better running.

I also want to look the best I can for my age this year and just be at peace with myself for once (can you tell I have been quite reflective this New Year?).

Are we going to have a new thread then and really go for it from Monday? Has everyone else deserted us? Have we also lost some of the 'old guard' forever? Any new 'lurkers' ready to take the plunge? (Will I stop asking questions?)

JJ · 03/01/2009 17:28

I am waiting to start but it will be on Tuesday as that's when the boys are back. I am falling apart from crap food and no exercise and too much arse on sofa action. Am currently sporting a flaky, spotty face and a cold sore (eewwwwww) and the overall appearance of a zombie.

Saggars, what did you do to your hands two days in a row? Mine are ok-ish at the moment, helped by the fact that I usually keep my nails short and mostly unpainted. However, I'd like to do something to them. I would still need to keep them short though. I am leaving my feet until panic time in May or thereabouts. I hope you feel better soon!

ureb, I love the Wii boxing too, although haven't done it for ages.

moonshine, I lost it over about a year and a half and then have been at a plateau for about 8 months or so. I need to get in gear and start losing it again. I'd be happy with a 1.5 stone loss, too, and would love to be at peace with my body.

Not sure about the other questions, but who is going to start the new thread? Where's eemie? I like the achievements bit, even putting down one would be nice.

eemie · 04/01/2009 20:04

Happy New Year everyone

How about this for a new thread?

Remember, onwards and upwards
