Come on everyone, I know you're all sick but pick up your beds and walk this way

The rules (anyone can join):

  • Sunscreen at all times;
  • No or little booze - it's allowed at the weekend if you want it;
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible, 30 mins if you can;
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day;
  • Apply body cream as often as possible;
  • Use hand cream;
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if poss;
  • Eat healthily;
  • Be happy.

The idea is that we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage.

Some people are doing India and Neris's Idiot Proof Diet (Atkins, more or less), others are doing Slimy World, others are just being as healthy as possible.

IDEA - for those of us who struggle with low mood for whatever reason - try to post five achievements here each day, however tiny.

Welcome everyone, have a good week.

I'm still here. Am having bootcamping ishoos, laptop ishoos and general meeting myself coming back type ishoos. And if I missed this Christmas and started preparing for next I thing I'd still not be ready.

VP - I'm still at you winning the Sweaty Betty vouchers.

Eemie - sorry about the lack of house sale. Maybe it'll happen in the new year.

VanessaParody · 22/12/2008 00:59

saggars - the sweatyBetty advert comes up everytime I click on bootcamp. Must be to remind me that I need to exercise.

I am almost ready for Christmas. I iced the swimming-in-brandy Christmas cake today and plucked the two chickens that we'll be having for Christmas dinner. We decided to go with homegrown food this year, though I will actually miss having heaps of cold turkey leftover as I love it!

eemie - perhaps we should advertise for some new members in the next new thread title?! There have been flurries of new people but they usually fall by the wayside.

And just so you know, I am a moldie (shatters its 'exclusive' reputation in less than a sentence). I'd forgotten about the Christmas meet-up - too ill, too busy - I don't do 'CATing' people so never got any info on it. Ah well!

I'll be in and out over Christmas but definitely not following the rules. Merry Christmas!

moonshine · 22/12/2008 10:56

VP - oh I love love love turkey and mounds of leftovers and can often be found after Christmas head in fridge with greasy streaks on my chops and fingers.

I have been around for more than 5 years, never posted hugely (due to lazy-assness) but hardly do at all these days but I used to lurk a lot and remember all the 'controversial'/classic threads. Am even behind with those now - what Christmas meet-up? Was this the big general one? Did it not happen?

I'm sure there will be a flurry of 'newbies' in January when 90% of the country seems to go on some kind of 'detox' diet. I really am going to try and do some damage limitation this time but I will be eating, drinking and making merry on at least 4 of the next days before normality descends back on us all.

I have so much chocolate in the house (in my defence mostly not bought by me) it is scary - everywhere I turn it is beckoning me. But I have been to the gym today [tilts halo slightly back into position]

Saggars - did your dh end up with some Xmas shifts? Mine has, thus far, escaped it (just got to hope none of the Royal Family die over the Xmas period - not that I wish anything bad on them at any time!)

Just in case my lazy - assness kicks in again, have a Merry Christmas all!

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 22/12/2008 11:20

Ha! Christmas shifts. Christmas Day a 11 hour day shift, same as Christmas Eve and Boxing Day 13 hour night shift.

We're doing Christmas lunch on Boxing Day. Christmas Day for me will be a bottle of plonk, chocs and crap telly. Oh joy!

Still we've been lucky over the years and dh wouldn't push for the time off as it's a time for those with littlies really.

We too have loads of choc. My mad MIL brings the kids huge amounts (and I'm talking a large tin of Heroes etc each plus biscuits, popcorn, bars of choc, bags of sweets. They're almost feckin grown-up FGS and after 15 years she still hasn't got to grips with the fact that dd only eats unadulterated chocolate. Most of hers goes the the fire station for them to consume/give away. I know I sound ungrateful but you know they'd rather have a top-up for their mobile or a pair of bleedin socks even!

chutneymary · 22/12/2008 11:30

Hello, hello, how are you? Hello, hello, it's GOOD to see you.....

I have watched far too much cbeebies over the last few weeks. Still, I have an excuse, in that I had my lovely DS, Matthew, 3 weeks ago today! In addition, my 2 DDs have both been ill and not up to doing much so we have languished terribly in front of t'telly. Onwards and upwards now though.

I haven't bootcamped at all, and as a result my 14s are very tight but can at least be done up. I think back wistfully to the summer and Duch getting into her size 12s a mere momemt after Archie's birth, and wish I had eaten more carrots and fewer biscuits. Still, now the CS wound has healed, my double buggy and I shall be pounding the pavements like gooduns in an attempt to get fit and gorgeous.

How is everyone else doing? There aren't many of us left now. Hope the various maladies have cleared and that you are all revving up for the holidays. Will go and read properly now.

feetheart · 22/12/2008 11:52

Hello I'm still here though as irregular a poster as ever. Have missed all strangeness that has been going on though mainly through avoidance- really can't be bothered if truth be told!

ChutneyMary - congratulations on lovely new DS. CBeebies compulsory during last 2 months of pregnancy/first 4 months of life with newborn I found. Still very useful at times now and DS (my 'newborn') turned 3 in November

Doubt I'll be doing too much bootcamping in the next week or two (love my food FAR too much) but will be one of those returning full of good intentions come 1st Jan/whenever the schools go back.
As DD been at school for over a year and DS started pre-school in September (albeit only 2 mornings a week) 2009 is going to be a bit more about finding time to do stuff for me - thinks that fits nicely with bootcamp I think.

Happy Christams to all in advance because the madness is about to engulf us here and I doubt I'll be back on for a while

moonshine · 22/12/2008 12:20

Ok was mystified by comments of moldies and strangeness so donned stalker to investigate the other threads and all I can say on the subject is f**k me it explains a lot! [Joins mystified and gormless line]

Chutney - huge congratulations to you on birth of Matthew.

[Waves to Feetheart and feels sad on Saggars behalf - mind you I have purposefully planned booze, chocs and crap tv on Xmas Day to help me cope with the playmobil nightmare to come].

VanessaParody · 22/12/2008 12:26

Congratulations Chutney and hello Matthew!!! How exciting. What do the girls make of him? Archies sibs adore him when he's sleeping/giggling/wriggling about but roll their eyes and disappear when he starts yelling. Definitely no bootcamping required from you. And I am also now in snug-fitting 14s, so much for the carrots (I need to run and will from January).

Have just bought crisps, cheese, croissants and pickled onions.

feetheart · 22/12/2008 17:07

Talk to me about Playmobile nightmare please. DS turned 3 in November and we got him a campervan and bin lorry on ebay - think it maybe the start of something as DD(nearly 6) loved it too. Please warn me what to expect

VanessaParody · 22/12/2008 18:08

feetheart - expect to find teeny axes (vikings), swords and guns (pirates) and hats (any of 'em) all over your house, in the car, in the garden and often in the washing machine trouser pockets of small boys.

Other than that, I love Playmobil. We have a Viking ship, pirate ship, Roman ship, a Mediaevel house and countless people and animals. It gets very heavy usage so has been worth the money.

JJ · 22/12/2008 18:19

Congrats ChutneyMary!

I am back and eating like the world will end tomorrow. Still probably posting irregularly but I was doing a project for Mumsnet and always feel weird posting when working for them so that's why I've been absent. That and because I've been using both hands to stuff my face eating. Anyway, it was not because of the Moldies thing! I didn't get an invite, but probably for the best as I'm a login sharer (only my own, mind!).

I have officially given up on the food front until after this coming weekend. Will start the New Year out right though, promise.

I have it in my head that it would be fun to try the Triathlon www.theblenheimtriathlon.com/ - sprint distance, so 1/2 the regular distance. The one thing I'm not sure about is the swim. Hmmm. I am very slow though - know what you mean VP about people doing a 5k in the time it takes to lace your shoes!

Ooh, Christmas shifts sound hard. And here's hoping no Royal Family members die in the next few days. feetheart, yes, I find it easier to be healthier when I have more time to myself too. moonshine, well done on gym visit!

JJ · 22/12/2008 18:20

Really, I should get links right, arghhhhh:
The Blenheim Triathlon

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 23/12/2008 08:49

God I feel rough this morning. Works do. Nuff said.

Actually why do we pay £50 to eat a crap meal with people who in the main you wouldn't usually choose to share a packet of crisps with?

I have sent dh off to do the Christmas food shop. This is either a Good Idea or a Big Mistake. It remains to be seen.

Arf a playmobile hell. I sort of miss building lego prate ships at 7 am on Christmas morning.

JJ - a triathlon!? That sounds fun (as long as someone else is doing it lol). dh has always fancied doing one but as he isn't the best of swimmers (understatement) I don't think it'll come off. Have a look at the Runner's thread in health and give Twink a shout - I'm pretty sure she's done triathlon. How's JJJnr?

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 23/12/2008 08:50

That's pirate ships.

moonshine · 23/12/2008 10:05

Saggars - they made you pay for your works do ? Ours was apparently quite a swanky one this year - and completely free - but despite the free booze and food and impressive venue could not bear to go and be nice to people who I mostly curse under my breath. At least at work I can pretend to be engrossed in something wilst maintaining a rictus grin.

Ah playmobil - it's the next step up from crunching hama beads underfoot which at least can all be swiped into the bin - anything caught between ones toes is probably a Very Important Sword or Walkie Talkie. But in theory it is great fun and very cute (ds has just received first dinosaur world set and there is more under the tree).

God I would so love to do something like a triathalon but am both too cowardly, crap at cycling and slowwww at swimming. I really need to progress my running so may peep into the runners' thread (although have looked before and seems somewhat out of my league).

My dh would be able to do the Christmas Shop only if I did a complete list stating exact item, brand, weight, colour etc. He would not deviate. But neither would he innovate or improvise.

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 23/12/2008 10:16

I work in a primary school moonsine so it's local government. I'm not sure the taxpayer would be happy at funding our boozy evening lol - mind you one of our secondary schools locally hit the headlines when they we going to have a teacher training day in Marbella

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 23/12/2008 10:17

Oh and dh has survived Sainsbury's but is shell-shocked at the price of a turkey.

moonshine · 23/12/2008 10:20

Don't the kids supply all the food and booze with their end-of-term present giving ?

Oh yes I remember the Marbella 'incident' - how the hell did they think they'd get away with it?

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 23/12/2008 10:22

Sadly no. If I could eat bath bombs it would be a different story.

VanessaParody · 23/12/2008 19:11

Has MrSaggar recovered from his ordeal? I hope he wasn't accosted by Jamie bouncing about barrow-boy stylee and yelling "alright darlin', have some of this to put in yer red cabbage, it's luvvely".

I took all 4 children to my mothers today. I now have a stinging headache - which is considerably worse for having read the word 'triathlon' several times!!

I am now going to have a present wrapping frenzy in an attempt to have a relaxing Christmas Eve.

MavisGrind · 23/12/2008 19:29

Evening all. I have been absent mostly due to distinct lack of bootcamping however am aiming to be back in the Spring once dc is born.

Today I have eaten 4 doughnuts and at least one other assorted cake [hangs head]. You can see why I haven't been posting...

Anyhoo, just wanted to wish all bootcampers a very Merry Christmas and a flexitolled and sunscreen bedecked New Year!

Oh, and many congratulations CM on the arrival of Matthew

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 23/12/2008 21:59

Ooo I'm sorry CM I missed your announcement. Congrats and welcome to Matthew

dh has recovered but at the expense of the good whisky.

VanessaParody · 26/12/2008 23:58
JJ · 28/12/2008 12:07

VP, I'm waddling also.

There is far too much food here. Why? And reading the word "doughnuts" has made me want one. Well, made me want 4 to be exact (yeah, thanks Mavis..).

moonshine, good call on not going to works do, I think. I would think the only thing worse than having to deal with people you don't like day to day is having to deal with them drunk. Bleh. For the record, I have always liked my works dos as I've always liked my colleagues.

SMBK - I nearly posted on the runners' thread but then got a bit scared as they're all so good. I am turtle-like; very slow but steady. Although my jogging partner is good at pushing herself (and therefore me) so I'm hoping I get faster. I am trying to convince a friend to do the triathlon with me; she is a very good swimmer and fit and quite competitive. Hmm, maybe that's not a great idea...

Ok, I'm going to lose this last bit (it's more than a bit) of weight this year. I've started using the Hacker's Diet online forms for weight tracking. Tech recommended it.. wonder how he's getting on. I think that's it for New Year's resolutions. Well maybe and get my house in some sort of order. Anyone else?

JJJr is doing well. He gets the metal out on 25 Feb - it's just an overnight operation with crutches for comfort only for a few days afterwards. He can do low impact stuff now and will be able to run around like a normal boy his age after they're out. And then do contact sport a while after that. He's off his crutch but still limping a bit - still doing physio every day. He's out of shape though; I think that will naturally work itself out when he can act like the maniac he is.

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 28/12/2008 16:07

JJ - I'm also slow & steady (and getting slower as the years pass), still it's the getting out there and doing it that matters.

Glad JJjnr is OK - dd's metalwork removal went much smoother than the insertion - a whole lot less painful. I'm sure he'll regain his fitness once he can do what he wants when he wants to. Our physio discharged dd very pleased with her range of movement but aghast at her abysmal muscle strength; branding her 'globally weak' [unsurprised emoticon].

New years resolutions, hmm - I'm not setting any in stone but would like to manage my time better [hopeful] and be a bit more spontaneous.
