how much on average is your monthly spend on clothes?

because I reckon I spend an average of about £50-£60 a month including shoes, bags, accessories. That seems like not a lot but dh spends even less and I suspect he thinks I'm a bit frivolous.

only buy twice a year and spend about £150 each time (usually on one or two items)

Sidge · 13/11/2008 19:59

It's a lot to me - but then I spend about £5-10 a month on me and that's stuff from Ebay. I can't remember the last time I bought anything new - brand new that is, not new to me.

It's all relative though - if you have a grand a month disposable income then 50 or 60 quid is nothing. For us at the moment £60 is a full week's grocery shopping, so I couldn't justify it on clothes.

bronze · 13/11/2008 19:59

erm if I average it out over the year £2?

wonderstuff · 13/11/2008 20:03

I worked out today my coat is 10 years old, I was a teenager when dh bought it for me, I'm now nearly 30! Is still a nice coat though and fab value obviously! I generally spend about 100-150 twice a year, but thats because we are soo broke, once upon a time when we were rich I'd spend £100 a month easy, wish I'd thought to save more

misscathcart · 13/11/2008 20:05

I spend maybe £30-40 every 4 months or so.

cyteen · 13/11/2008 20:06

£0

i love clothes but am crap at shopping.

Mercy · 13/11/2008 20:09

I spend considerably less.

If you can afford it I don't see a problem tbh.

anyfucker · 13/11/2008 20:12

I spend quite a bit, as I love clothes and especially accessories

Do you mean clothes just for yourself? Cos I spend lots on the kids too.

I would say on an average month, about £100.

luckylady74 · 13/11/2008 20:17

Seems a lot to me, but then I earn nothing and so I feel bad spending anything. I ask for money for clothes for birthdays and get new shoes when my old ones have holes in!

nickytwotimes · 13/11/2008 20:20

Monthly spend? ZIlch.
I get gift vouchers for Christmas and that's it.

wheresthehamster · 13/11/2008 20:21

£50 a month for the 5 of us would be a lot.

nickytwotimes · 13/11/2008 20:21

Oh, but yes, spend whatever you like within your budget.
Damn sure I would spend more given the oportunity!

deaconblue · 13/11/2008 20:21

yes just clothes for yourself. Some of my friends happily buy £100 jeans and designer handbags regularly, whereas I probably buy a few tops, trousers etc twice a year, averaging about £50 a month

Probably about £100 to £200 a year. We rarely buy clothes at the moment - although I love shopping - cos we don't earn very much and have to be sensible and live within our means, boo.
My sister is young, free and single (ish) and spends loads on clothes - like i used to - and i'm very envious. I don't want to sound shallow and i am careful with money and don't waste it but i do think if we earned more then i would like to buy some nice clothes.

p1umpudding · 13/11/2008 20:45

I spend a small fortune . I love clothes, bags, accessories and make up. Generally buy from LK Bennett, Hobbs and Boden.

I often think that buy spending a little more means that I take better care of my clothes and they last a bit longer.

sagacious · 13/11/2008 20:48

If just for me then on average £100 per month

sweetgrapes · 13/11/2008 20:54

Maximum £10 a month on me. Usually less.
And we're not poor - just broke.

FairyMum · 13/11/2008 21:06

£200-300 a month on clothes and shoes, but can go for months without spending anything at all.

SilentTerror · 13/11/2008 21:23

I have too many clothes though.

LadyG · 13/11/2008 21:33

£200-£300 or so twice a year (in sales) One or 2 gifts/yr from DH as well usually much posher than I would buy for myself!
