Batiste Dry Shampoo - what's that all about then??

Saw an ad in a magazine for this the other day - never heard of such a thing! What do you do with it? Why might you need it?

I have used it in the past when I had a fringe. I wash my hair every other day but sometimes my fringe would look greasy in between. You spray it in and brush it out and it 'cleans' ie 'takes the oil out' of your hair. It would never do instead of properly washing your hair but great for emergencies!

Sounds weird! I feel like I've missed out on some sort of well-kept secret

It is weird but it does work! Not sure about the well kept secret. I was quite excited about it when I discovered it (well as excited as you can be about spray shampoo) but when I told a friend she looked horrified (she's a wash hair every dayer) so I've kept quiet since

hidetheribbons · 07/11/2008 13:36

Is it for people who can't wash their own hair, eg elderly people, to freshen it up between shampooings?

ObamasPinkPussyCat · 07/11/2008 13:36

What does it smell like?

OP posts:
DANCESwithLordPsGhost · 07/11/2008 13:45

I think there's different scents. Flowery, coconuty to the best of my knowledge.

ObamasPinkPussyCat · 07/11/2008 13:56

But is it a dectecable smell? Would I be outed as a shampoo-dodger by its recognisable fragrance?

nappyaddict · 07/11/2008 14:03

i use it it's fab!

ObamasPinkPussyCat · 07/11/2008 14:04

It smells of coconut.

I use it when I just can't wash my hair and want to look presentable until the hairdresser can sort me out. Or if there's a plumbing emergency and we have no hot water.

girlandboy · 07/11/2008 14:18

Can remember mum doing this to me when I was little, but with talcum powder!
Same principle I believe. And it worked fine. Had forgotten all about it till now.

cheesesarnie · 07/11/2008 14:20

fab for festivals

ObamasPinkPussyCat · 07/11/2008 14:20

Coconut is good...

g&b - at talcum powder!

girlandboy · 07/11/2008 14:23

Obviously she didn't empty the whole tin on my head, just a discreet sprinkle.

Ah, ye olde worlde remedies.

ObamasPinkPussyCat · 07/11/2008 14:25

Now, where's that 'Things I have learned from MN' thread...

Love this stuff!
BEWARE dont spray too close to ur hair tho or will look grey!!!!!

unknownrebelbang · 08/11/2008 15:07

I remember Batiste from when I was a child, but it's made a bit of a comeback hasn't it?

I've used it occasionally, and it's useful.

bigTillyMint · 08/11/2008 15:09

God, is that stuff still going - I too remember it from the 70's

spottyzebrahasthelurgy · 08/11/2008 15:13

lol at talc my aunt used to do that to my cousins when there hair looked greasy

unknownrebelbang · 08/11/2008 15:17

Talc is less erm controllable, and if not careful can really enhance the grey look.

There speaks the voice of experience...

TheOtherMaryPoppinsFleckles · 08/11/2008 15:22

Talc and cornflour are both good and cheap subs for it, Tropical Batiste is edlicious and smells like body shops coconut oil ahhh memories

KatieDD · 08/11/2008 15:28

My dad use to use it, it's minging I'm sorry there is no excuse for not washing your hair, do you not sower daily ?

SheikYerbouti · 08/11/2008 15:30

Well, yes Katie.

But sometimes you oversleep. Sometime you don;t have time. It's better than going out looking like a grease ball.

clarebear1 · 08/11/2008 15:34

Its not good to wash ur hair everyday i dnt think!

spottyzebrahasthelurgy · 08/11/2008 15:40

also katie when you have a major infection like i have atm you can't wash your hair even though you would love to.
