what's a pear shaped girl to do??

is it worth shelling out for spanx.. so many different ones..

some of the knickers i have tried just make all the fat jelly bulge out over the top of the waisband, so if you are wearing something clingy, it looks awful

any tips, recommendations and advice please?

thanks x

I've got those too and they are definately the best I've tried and believe me I've tried many in a quest to control my jelly belly

FourArms · 19/10/2008 18:01

There is something v.similar to those for £4 in Primark. I think they're fab. I've got lots of similar types of thing (for various styles of balldress!), and those are my favourite!

SheikYerbouti · 19/10/2008 18:02

I think they are well worth the ££££

If handwash them, they last v well

They even have a little wee hole, if you are so inclined (not tested that out tbh)

FourArms · 19/10/2008 18:06

Like the idea of a wee hole!

dominiccooperswife · 19/10/2008 18:20

I recently bought an esbelt (as worn by Gwyneth Paltrow no less!) and it's so fab I never want to take it off. Gok does a similar one called a waist cincher which is more sexy. The great thing about the esbelt is no bulges - everything is contained beneath it

lulumama · 19/10/2008 20:07

okay, thank you all...

so spanx looking like a winner..

esbelt? have not heard of it

primark.. will check it out

thank you very much

well i know spanx begin to hurt a bit if you have them on for more than 10 hours (eg at a wedding).

they are absolutely fantastic though. smooth you over so there are no rolls sticking out.

worth every penny.

EllieG · 19/10/2008 20:18

Hmm my spanx roll down a bit I find.

bythepowerofgreyskull · 19/10/2008 20:19

spanx higher power for me every time.

lulumama · 19/10/2008 20:19

don;t say that ellie, i was working up to ordering a pair !

painful.. how? like cutting off your blood supply painful?

slackrunner · 19/10/2008 20:22

I have the same prob ellie - they don't feel that secure.

My vote goes to good ol' M&S Magic Knickers.

lulumama · 19/10/2008 20:23

have had the MS Ones, last time i wore they they dug in sooo much i took themn off and stuffed them in my handbag

EllieG · 19/10/2008 20:26

M&S ones hurt too much, was like wearing car tyre. No holdy-in pants are going to be comfy for any length of time. My mate swears by some she got from jojomamanbebe I think, she says they don't roll down like spanx do.

lauraloola · 19/10/2008 21:14

I have these as I was sick of having that bit of bulge other the pant ones you get.

They are bit like tight fabric and I didnt think they would work. The dont so much hold you in but smooth out your figure. I love the fact that they go down my thighs and they did look smaller. It is also very comfy and not too expensive.

lauraloola · 19/10/2008 21:16

Ps what I have doesnt roll down at all. They have 2 velcro hooks that you can put over your bra strap for extra security!

MonkeyLover · 20/10/2008 03:51

Spanx higher power for me too. They push everything up into your cleavage . Don't find they roll down either.

ghosty · 20/10/2008 05:45

Wow, a wee hole ...
I have a pair magic knickers that are 3 and half years old. I wore them to a wedding and when I needed the loo it took such an effort to get them on again that when I fell out of the cubicle, exhausted, I looked like I had been on a 10 mile run, all red and sweaty with my beautiful wedding hair looking like I'd been pulled through a hedge backwards. Twice.
Nightmare.
I prefer the jelly belly.

lizandlulu · 20/10/2008 14:08

i have never tried spanx, but have tried the primark ones. they just rolled down when i moved. they were fairly firm and good at holding my belly in, but the roll down jsut made them unwearable for me.

cremolafoam · 20/10/2008 14:10

oooh i got a pair this morning in TkMaxx for £9.99- loads cheaper. I am buildeing myself up to trying them on

Toots · 20/10/2008 14:19

Spanx higher power are tremendous. I love, love, love them. You don't take them off to use the loo, they have highly unglamorous but extremely effective flaps.

cremolafoam · 20/10/2008 16:00

can report back that spanx higher power are rather wonderful.I actually can breathe and they don't half smooth you out. Just afraid of being boiled alive like a christmas ham if i go out to a bar with a million people .
spose you can't have evrything.

lulumama · 20/10/2008 16:02

thank you all, i think a trip to TK Maxx is in order, although i saw similar ones in matalan today for £8
