i am very tall-just under 6ft, size 20 with fabulous norks!

I don't think you're being awkward, i think shopping online is a mare.

Dresses can be tricky as well. TBH I'm a size 10 or 12 and often I try things on and they just do not fit in the right places or just don't hang properly. I don't understand how anyone can shop online and get something that fits well. whatever we show you, you're going to have to try it on to check for fit.

Spend a day in town without the children. Walk into a shop. Take 10 things into the dressing room (or whatever is their max) and see which fits ok. I bet you do have a clue if you've got time.

thinking about it more, a dress with boots is always very good.

ok-will definitely try.

I've missed the wallis dress. Which one is it????

Pannacotta · 11/10/2008 22:30

I agree that its almost impossible to get something decent without trying it on.
I do quite like this (having looked on the Wallis site) though it is very 70s!

Pannacotta · 11/10/2008 22:31

Though it is prob too much black

Ronaldinhio · 11/10/2008 22:32

i have a weeding "do" next weekend and ditto..it's my first proper night out since dd2
i'm planning to be 6'3 in my heels with my norks in simply everyone's actual chin/eye line..this will hopefully distract them from everything else that isn't quite as it should be yet

do look in the current mags to get the trends and online to see where has what and then go amd and either order it all to home or spend ages in town trying things on

you'll look fab i'm sure
x

themildmannneredjanitor · 11/10/2008 22:34

too sensible pannacotta!

PeaMcLean · 11/10/2008 22:38

That 70s one is nice but the skirt needs to be about a foot shorter than it is. Though for that price, I'd buy it and hack the length off.

PeaMcLean · 11/10/2008 22:39

MMJ I hope you're not really expecting to get the perfect answer from us

themildmannneredjanitor · 11/10/2008 22:42

no!

but it's nice to get ideas.

otherwise i'll be wandering round the shops picking things up and putting them down and being crap.

or ending up in the biker boot/skirt combo that i'd thought would be great and looking like a pig at a bar mitzvah

Pannacotta · 11/10/2008 22:43

Peas so would I - I agree it's too long but easy job to have it shortened, I often get high st things altered to fit me better.
I think it might look fab with eg some bright red heels and a bold necklace.

Anyway am off to bed now.
Hope you find sth you like mmj.
Thought the personal shopper idea was a good one, far easier to advise face to face than on-line and unseen.

Pannacotta · 11/10/2008 22:52

My very last offering then I am really going to bed!

Ronaldinhio · 11/10/2008 22:56

pannacotta that could look a little baby doll porn with big norks?

themildmannneredjanitor · 11/10/2008 23:01

lol!!! gosh the thought!

Puppster · 11/10/2008 23:03

What about one of the dresses you think is too short, but over trousers ifyswim? Dress would need to be mid thigh length or shorter(T & s top tip I think)

V v flattering, good for emphasising waist & norks and will make your legs look endless at your height, particularly if you keep it all the same colour, (black probably?) - maybe with a pattern on the dress bit? You can then wear flats as well, so comfortable for big night & dancing? You could also layer a shorter jacket over the top if you needed a cover up?

Ronaldinhio · 11/10/2008 23:03

there's a market for it i'm sure...maybe even in this household come to think of it!!!

HRHSaintMamazon · 11/10/2008 23:04

I am crap at finding things but i would go for a satin jewel coloured blouse, you know the types that have teh tie at the kneck and some black wide leg trousers.

themildmannneredjanitor · 11/10/2008 23:05

need to go shopping and try loads on and think out of the box. try stuff i wouldn't normally.
