something that will take me from west end theatre to soho bar. that maybe i will dance in.

something i will get wear out of-not a one off.

i am very tall-just under 6ft, size 20 with fabulous norks!

has anybody any ideas?

Am slightly disturbed by "fantasy" involving biker boots but am liking that kind of boot generally. How about dancing in them? Very wearable with a skirt (though maybe not that last lovely pencil one)

Ronaldinhio · 11/10/2008 21:46

i think the black trousers and shiny top thing is a bit provincial...but that's just me and please don't flame me

Pannacotta · 11/10/2008 21:49

I don't think biker boots are the right "look" for your spec, though I do get why you hanker after them.
Agree they are hard to dance in (I had a pair once but they made my legs look like matchsticks).
What do you think about the pencil skirt idea, with some heels?

themildmannneredjanitor · 11/10/2008 21:50

well the dancing is only a maybe! and i know i would get lots of wear out of them.

love these

themildmannneredjanitor · 11/10/2008 21:51

love these too.

maybe with a knee length black skirt?[proffers idea and runs and hides from the stylish people]

OP posts:
Pannacotta · 11/10/2008 21:54

Think they are both too casual for theatre/bar in W End and neither are terribly funky/sexy.
Sorry.
How about some wedge heels instead?

Ronaldinhio · 11/10/2008 21:54

have you tried on these boots?

themildmannneredjanitor · 11/10/2008 21:57

i tried on the first pair yes.

ok- so too casual.

mmm-not sure about pencil skirt.

not a big fan of heels-can't walk in them.

shit-i haven't a clue.

newgirl · 11/10/2008 21:58

what are you seeing? if you want to be funky i reckon really good black jeans with heels/boots

as soon as you get in to smart casual wear you stop being funky so jeans would do it for me

Pannacotta · 11/10/2008 22:00

What sort of skirt/shoes would you feel ok in? WOuld a funky maxi skirt be better?
Did any of the tops I linked to really appeal (no need to be polite), to use as a starting point?
Is there anything in your wardrobe which you coudl use and pair with something new?

Ronaldinhio · 11/10/2008 22:01

heels witgh a decent platform look much higher than they are though iyswim..havr you tried?

themildmannneredjanitor · 11/10/2008 22:04

the theatre isn't the issue as i think these days pretty much anything goes. but afterwards we want to go to a few bars and be adults! and be a bit dressed up!

what do you think of this dress? i've got some lovely flat strappy jewelled silver sandals i could wear with it. maybe with a little silver cardi? or would it look like i was trying too hard? like a hick from the sticks?

OP posts:
PeaMcLean · 11/10/2008 22:04

I like the boots. Especially the first ones. Second ones are very casual for the brief you give.

How about the second ones with black tights, a short (ie, mid thigh) skirt and a long top, perhaps?

Pannacotta · 11/10/2008 22:07

Nice dress but IMVHO it's more of a party dress than for wearing for an evening out in London, though it could look more edgey with a funky shrug and heels.

Ronaldinhio · 11/10/2008 22:08

looks very evening do especially with strappy and silver...is that what you want?

themildmannneredjanitor · 11/10/2008 22:09

well i was thinking it would do for the night out and our christmas dos this year.

fuck. i am so bad at this.

has been YEARS since i went out in london and i haven't a fucking clue.

OP posts:
Ronaldinhio · 11/10/2008 22:13

for good big norks you need something to show them off...do you have a decent waist or are you a bit middley?
that's why i suggested a kimono style dress with some empire detail and structure to hide most womens worry spots of middle and hips
add some decent quality tights and heels and you easily have funky

i'm as confused as you as i thought you weren't up for dresses?

Ronaldinhio · 11/10/2008 22:14

what about this
www.next.co.uk/shopping/women/signature/1/4

themildmannneredjanitor · 11/10/2008 22:15

i'm not usually but i just saw that and thought it was lovely

empire line shit with big norks. the line is always in the wrong place-right across nipples!

sigh.

OP posts:
Pannacotta · 11/10/2008 22:17

So tell us which styles of dress/skirt etc you DO like!
You said easlier you do have a waist so woudl you say you are more or less hourglass?

Ronaldinhio · 11/10/2008 22:17

mm agreed but not always! sometimes worth a try...i'm a 36h and if the dress is the right cut and size it can sometimes work

themildmannneredjanitor · 11/10/2008 22:20

am also 36h or 38gg!

i find wrap over dresses are ok. or princess line.

sorry-i know i am being awkward.

trinny and susannah reckon i'm a cello

OP posts:
Pannacotta · 11/10/2008 22:23

Remind me what a cello is? Does it mean a bit pear shaped? Are you wider round the hips than the bust?
(Am a column so am a bit out of my comfort zone, which btw includes empire line dresses!)

themildmannneredjanitor · 11/10/2008 22:24

big boobs, big bum, smaller waist!

boobs are definitely my best bit!! not pear shaped AT ALL. flat bum.

OP posts:
Ronaldinhio · 11/10/2008 22:25

all right then I seriously recommend that you go forth and try that wallis dress
we are the same height and of the same tit proportion and honestly it was bloody brilliant on...i promise
some thick tights and chunky kick ass platforms and you are away

cost nowt to try and sometimes what you don't usually try can be the way forward

that sort of kimono style should be decent for you though and there is loads around and can be v nice almost fitting funky depending on how you dress it
