Help needed to find a winter coat please.

Right, first time asking for help in this section so be gentle

DH has given me a budget of £200 but I can't imagine spending that much, I'm a cheapskate! But he has just bought himself one for that so feels guilty!

I am currently a 12/14 (post-preg) but normally a 8/10 so this coat will probably/hopefully only be for this winter as I have smaller ones in the wardrobe

I want to be able to try it on so High Street preferred over catalogues.

I fancy a red one as I always get black/navy coats.

I'm short (5,4) so don't want to be drowned in it.

Any tips??

I like this

Cadelaide · 11/10/2008 17:54

don't like the colour of the next one, bit drab.

themoon666 · 11/10/2008 17:57

I like the duffel coat. I really fancy one myself, in blue or purple.

brimfull · 11/10/2008 17:59

some great ones in Zara atm

JustKeepSwimming · 11/10/2008 17:59

thanks cadelaide - not sure about the big bit around the neck tho? i'm not a polo-neck wearer as i don't like the neck bit so think it might irritate me? love the colour though

think i was getting drawn back to boring colours by next!

themoon - i think the duffle might be the way to go! purple would be fab, nit sure i'm brave enough! or a bright blue???

OP posts:
JustKeepSwimming · 11/10/2008 18:00

the zara website doesn't seem to show the clothes? don't think we've got one near us anyway, but thanks!

There must be a Zara at that big shopping centre near the Thames crossing (Lakeside??) That's Essex isn't it?

JustKeepSwimming · 11/10/2008 18:16

there must be one there, not sure i can face a trip there with ds2 (still bf) or a frantic rush there and back between feeds. i'm not much of a shopper really!
takes about 45mins in good traffic for me.
southend high street or maybe basildon/chelmsford about my limit!

A smart red coat on this page and the "City" style looks good too though not red:

JustKeepSwimming · 11/10/2008 20:51

pannacotta - i lie that red one thanks.
not sure about 'aubergine'??
eye is drawn to the bright blue duffle!

OP posts:
Pannacotta · 11/10/2008 21:19

Please don't go for the duffle!! I think they are ok when you are 10 years old but not otherwise.
The red one does look nice and Laura A coats are good quality, I have one and it's very soft and well cut. They often have discount offers to so worth keeping a look out.

Pannacotta · 11/10/2008 21:36

This one is smart too

BoysAreLikeRabidDogs · 11/10/2008 21:44

this has had good reviews trouser the change or blow it on chcolate??

Ronaldinhio · 11/10/2008 21:59

do you want to stick to the same thing as before..maybe with the new budget it's time to break out.....

JustKeepSwimming · 12/10/2008 14:10

well i bought this one and i like it and only £48

i tried on the duffle from topshop and it turns out i must have short arms as the sleeves were several inches too long

did try on some 'big neck' ones but they didn't feel right on me.

BALD - will be popping to george/asda tomorrow probably and will definitely look that one up, fab price! dh said i could have 2 as i might need a boring dark one for a funeral (not sure who he's planning on knocking off mind you! ) or something smart...

ronald - well red is different for me so that's a start! i am very traditional with clothes and try every now and then to shake myself up a bit....sort of!

Cadelaide · 12/10/2008 14:13

Oooh, I like that one.

Good choice.

JustKeepSwimming · 12/10/2008 14:13

I've seen a nice one in Zara but it is chocolate brown - is that a bit old lady?

JustKeepSwimming · 13/10/2008 10:10

i like chocolate brown, can you link to it?

OP posts:
MatBackFeck · 13/10/2008 10:13

MatBackFeck · 13/10/2008 10:16
