Thinking it's finally time for a new watch, and before I go shopping, thought I'd canvas here for ideas.

Would love to see practical and extravagant suggestions. Links would be helpful too.

Gucci watches are beautiful. I have one and love it - sorry, I am crap at links though. Don't go for big blingy stuff - less is more.

traceybath · 05/10/2008 20:38

I have stainless cartier tank francaise - i love it.

Was expensive but fully intent to wear it for the rest of my life.

traceybath · 05/10/2008 20:38

stainless steel i meant to say

brimfull · 05/10/2008 20:39

I have a fossil watch a bit like this but with flowers on the face

mosschops30 · 05/10/2008 20:41

I love swatch watches, cheap and cheerful but people always comment on my watch and think its a bracelet.
I prefer the metallic ones rather than old style plastic, and they dont irritate my rubbish skin

this is my new one

NomDePlume · 05/10/2008 20:41

This is mine

madrose · 05/10/2008 20:44

10 years ago, for christmas my boyfriend now my DH brought me a breitling. I love it and wear it all the time, it still looks fanastic.

LetThemEatCake · 05/10/2008 20:46

I love vintage men's watches, with big round faces, roman numerals and chunky leather straps. I have one from Greenwich Market, was about £20 I think

But one day will get one from that arcade in town - can't remember the name, it' near the Royal Academy .. loads of vintage watches, so heavenly ... so pricey ... one day ....

WideWebWitch · 05/10/2008 20:51

I used to have this but lost it a year ago, no idea where. I didn't like it any more so it was ok. What I really want is this. I won't be getting it but would rather have no watch than one I'm not that keen on so I've had none for the past year.

traceybath · 05/10/2008 20:53

WWW - thats my watch and i did the 'no watch' thing for years until i had the cartier one.

Weeteeny · 05/10/2008 20:55

I have a rolex datejust - silver face, gold bezel, classic style stainless steel and gold strap. Gold roman numerals on face.
Rolex are timeless classics. You can chose the combination of styles, face colour, etc to your exact taste.
I love my watch, it was a wedding presnt from DH, I wear it every day and there is not a mark on it. We looked at lots of watches and felt none compared.
I have Gucci watch too and it looks cheap in comparison. Go for a watchmakers watch not a fashion name.
I think they stand the test of time, as will breitling, omega, raymond weil, patek phillipe, longines - i.e watchmakers not designer names like armani or gucci attched to crappy watches

bythepowerofgreyskull · 05/10/2008 20:57

one of these the MOOREA Vintage witha rectangular face

bythepowerofgreyskull · 05/10/2008 20:57

sorry that should read I have one of these

Anna8888 · 05/10/2008 20:58

I love my Hermès Cape Cod double tour and my Jaeger-le-Coultre Reverso.

Megglevache · 05/10/2008 20:59

I want a nice big chunky old man's watch, an old Omega one I think.

Any going for about a tenner would be grand.

Megglevache · 05/10/2008 21:01

yummmmm

EyeballsintheSky · 05/10/2008 21:05

I have this and this

Have lots more but no web links. I usually wear some thing from Next for every day bashing about. Handbags and watches, that's me!

Earlybird · 06/10/2008 14:54

Lots of nice watches to consider here...any other suggestions?

this is mine. I have tiny wrists, so it doesn't go quite tight enough but I love it.

ninedragons · 06/10/2008 15:22

I have a WW1 trench watch a bit like this. I love it but wind-up watches are not for everyone.

MrsBates · 06/10/2008 15:25

Haven't worn a watch for 20 years. But did see a beautiful silver Jensen one that I would have if I had about £1,000.

kt14 · 06/10/2008 15:27

I wear a Tag Heuer link - imo gorgeous and simple without being flashy. Don't like the ones with diamonds in, too blingy to wear every day.
Also have an Emporio Armani dress watch and DKNY tank watch which was an airport bargain.

LisaLessLumpy · 06/10/2008 16:18

I have a Tag Heuer Link too, a present from DH after he had a weeks ski holiday and I stayed at home with the boys. I love it and it goes with anything

hifi · 06/10/2008 16:34

lizandlulu · 06/10/2008 16:43
