I am NOT wearing tights this year I hate them they are v uncomfy

I like stockings but get bored because I can only get one sort - black, 10-15 denier, sheer things

I want coloured ones, or opaque ones, or woolly ones, like the range people wear of tights

I want no pervs on this thread leering at my suspenders btw

StockingsHQ have great prices on an amazing range of stockings in proper sizes as well. Just don't venture onto the forums OK ? But their service is impeccable.

whosaidthat · 03/10/2008 20:47

~~frightful cringey memories emerging~~

I'm a seventies child and remember vividly there being no food in the cupboards, yet an abundance of shiney packets of seamed stockings falling out of mothers hanbag on a friday afternoon
I love stockings actually but unless I can unlearn it, I will always harbour a deep deep resentment of them

Cappuccino · 03/10/2008 20:48

forums cmot?

I am scared enough by the products

I'm scared by those too. And actually some of the shoes are rather scary too. But their suspender belts keep your stockings perfectly in place all day

Cappuccino · 03/10/2008 21:42

oh okay will look at those too then, thanks

ooh ooh ooh

can I ask a question

thing is, I lived abroad when I learnt about all these things

I did not realise there was such a difference between stockings, tights etc. etc. in this country

so I just want to check

stocking are the things you wear with suspenders right but can also be those sort of self hold up things

and tights are the things with a gussett and top bit

just want to make sure I have got the right end of the stick so to speak

have just ordered some v well priced stockings off figleaves capp

hoxtonchick · 03/10/2008 21:48

the sticky self holdy ones are hold-ups fis. loving those bright cotton ones. can anyone talk me through suspender belts?

Cappuccino · 03/10/2008 21:50

yes fox you are very right

figleaves you say

foxinsocks · 03/10/2008 21:51

they sort of go round your waist, you do them up at the back (lots are like a sort of bra strap doing up) and they have little straps you attach to the stockings

attach to the stockings first, then do the length of the straps...is fiddly to get it right but once you've got the right length, you're sorted!

thanks Hoxton....makes a bit more sense now

Cappuccino · 03/10/2008 21:52

I would, but my suspender belt is not fantastic

OP posts:
foxinsocks · 03/10/2008 21:53

stockings on figleaves

foxinsocks · 03/10/2008 21:54

is fiddly...can see the draw of hold ups

I wore hold ups yesterday at work. Has been so long since I wore stockings and I found it really odd when I went to the loo and didn't have to pull them down iyswim!

cmotdibbler · 03/10/2008 21:55

Hoxton - as in which one to get ? A six strap with metal clips is the best type, and it has to be fairly substantial to stop it slithering down.

Cappuccino · 03/10/2008 22:02

cmot, you're a bit of an expert, aren't you?

OP posts:
foxinsocks · 03/10/2008 22:03

oh sorry hoxton...have just given you the bleeding obvious lol which you probably knew already. I'm by no means an expert at all and v crap with fiddly stuff anyway!

hoxtonchick · 03/10/2008 22:06

ok, sounds do-able. i worry about the expanse of wobbly thigh - this has happened when i've occasionally worn hold ups....
