It's black and white 'tartan' with a ruffle/waterfall at the back. As it's pencil I will probably need the 20 (normally an 18) but don't think pencil looks good if tight in any way.

Happy to accept insults. Don't be nice, if you think I will look like a feckin' travel rug say so

eeek. No I'm afraid not, pattern like that plus ruffle not a good combo if you are at all concerned about your size I'd say.

Lizzylou · 01/10/2008 11:17

No, perhaps a plain black pencil skirt.
But no to patterns and/or ruffles

CountessDracula · 01/10/2008 11:17

I am a 14 and I wouldn't wear that
actually I wouldn't if I were an 8 even!

KristinaM · 01/10/2008 11:18

some pencil skirts yes

that pencil skirt no. sorry

Lauriefairycake · 01/10/2008 11:18

I haven't worn a pencil since I was a size 10 at school, I'm only considering it cos I was sure i'd read somewhere in the last week that fatties could wear pencils?

Probably tranny and suzzy

nnnooooooooo

don't do it

flowerybeanbag · 01/10/2008 11:19

It's not the pencil that's the problem, it's the pattern plus ruffle.

brimfull · 01/10/2008 11:19

was just about to post that flowery

gingerninja · 01/10/2008 11:20

Can't see it as a work filter won't allow it but I don't think anyone can wear pencil skirts unless they are hipless. I'm only a size 10 (when not preg) but can't wear pencil skirts as have big hip / arse so why make me look mahoosive. Travel rug is defo what it looks like.

Lauriefairycake · 01/10/2008 11:20

yes, but I didn't want to look like a waitress again (I grew up in a hotel and wore a black pencil skirt every day for 8 years)

come and join me on sponsored slim!
here

flowerybeanbag · 01/10/2008 11:21

Grey? Brown? Other plain colour? Or black not worn with white shirt to eliminate waitress flashback?

Lauriefairycake · 01/10/2008 11:22

thanks cd, happy to sponsor others but don't want to lose weight myself

I think pencil skirts are fabulous on curvy figures. However, I'd go for a plain one, as that pattern will draw attention to your hips.

CountessDracula · 01/10/2008 11:23

Great I'll put you down for a fiver then shall i???

If you don't want to that is entirely up to you of course (but the more the merrier etc)

Lauriefairycake · 01/10/2008 11:24

In my head I think i will look like a sweater girl from the 50's - have huge norks and large-ish hips - was hoping I'd look all hourglassy and foxy.

But I really, really won't. My hips will just stretch those squares out and make me bigger.

OP posts:
NappiesGalore · 01/10/2008 11:26

sorry laurie, that skirt is awful whatever size you are

Jennyisjustknackered · 01/10/2008 11:26

I agree, so buy a plain one and I'm sure you'll look foxy in that.

flowerybeanbag · 01/10/2008 11:26

Well you might look very hourglassy and foxy in a pencil skirt that doesn't have dodgy checks to stretch out.

Worth trying a couple of plain ones on?

Buda · 01/10/2008 11:27

Trouble with pencil skirts in large sizes is that they aren't pencils at all really are they? More an upside down triangle. Waist is always wider than the hemline or if not is not a pencil at all.

Jennyisjustknackered · 01/10/2008 11:27

X post flowery [waves]

Carmenere · 01/10/2008 11:28

Well I am a tall curvy 16 and look pretty good in a pencil skirt. But I would never wear one in that pattern. Try plain black.

flowerybeanbag · 01/10/2008 11:28

that you PJ? Dare I ask how's things?
