Hobbs. I think it is what Boden aspires to but can no longer do.

And there is a 20% discount via Red magazine so time to git me some winter boots.

As you were.

I heart the Bath shop. I just like being in there and picking things up off the tables.

Bobbiewickham · 07/09/2008 17:40

Whistles is nice, yes, but for special occasions.

Mind you, am rapidly running out of places to buy trousers. Am expanding rapidly.

pickie · 07/09/2008 17:44

I like Hobbs for coats and nice comfortable killer heel shoes! Also like White Stuff, washes well and reasonable priced and Oasis always seem to have trousers that fit me well but never last long

traceybath · 07/09/2008 17:44

new whistles stuff is very nice. Really nice jeans and jersey/knitwear.

GrapeJelly · 07/09/2008 18:35

Jigsaw stuff is lovely but poor quality, esp. knitwear. Would buy more often if it lasted a bit longer.

moondog · 07/09/2008 18:47

Not graced doors of Whistles or Jigsaw in a while. Reiss seemed a bit bleurgh to me.
I think Boden stuff used to be good quality and at one stage bought a lot but have sent all back recently. I too despise the whole 'fun/flippy/sassy' guff.

I just like smart plain clothes for work. I'm not an ancient lumpy frump either. I work in the NHS so bias cut assymetrical capes with a faux caribou collar accesorised by necklaces fashioned of raw chunks of anthracite and steel aren't really what I am aiming for.

New whistles is good. Jane Shepherdson who sorted topshop out is now in charge.

Lots of nice wearable clothes which are fashionable but suitable for over 30's.

Take a look here

moondog · 07/09/2008 19:52

Ooh, you reckon Trace?!
Those dresses are a little sack like apart from the last black one. Does anyone else find it more and more difficult to find something to one's taste as they age?

Megglevache · 07/09/2008 19:59

Majeika, ditto the knitwear designer too

traceybath · 07/09/2008 20:14

Oh yes whistles dresses not so great - i was mainly looking at jeans and jackets.

But this is gorgeous

MrsBadger · 07/09/2008 20:17

oh oh

the people who wanted a purple coat

(hours ago now)

the purple wool one with the fluted sleeves we recommended l r & centre last year is reduced in the Next outlets

MrsBadger · 07/09/2008 20:19

turquoise it was you

moondog · 07/09/2008 20:54

Yes Trace, lovely. ThaT lk bENNETT site takes an age to download.

As aside i detest those vile whore/tranny shoes with wedgie base. Yuck.

Its a ridiculously slow site. Grazia did a 20% off thing in the summer - i'm hoping they'll repeat soon.

nkf · 07/09/2008 21:06

Hobbs is more serious than Boden.

I like Jigsaw a lot. I like some things at Hobbs but it's a bit officey?
I love Avoca Anthology and Noa Noa.

janeite · 07/09/2008 21:16

I don't like Hobbs at all and that's after spending some time "trying" to like it - I just feel that it's all rather "middle class older mother" I'm afraid. Although some of the shoes do look fun, they seem eye-poppingly expensive.

Whistles I liked about eight years or so ago, when they had lots of cute skirts but now I think it's really dull and shapeless.

LK Bennet - it's all too long for me - and looks very over-priced as well.

SilentTerror · 07/09/2008 21:30

Swedes,we are at one over Avoca and Noa Noa.

Bringbackmybonnietome · 07/09/2008 21:31

Whistles is so DULL.

I wanted to fall asleep just looking at the aray of beige, pale gray and dark gray.

LK Bennett at bit better, but not amazing, and much to expensive for me.

Both made boden look exciting, colourful and cheap!! I take it all back.

traceybath · 07/09/2008 21:36

Oh no - i like the colours in whistles but i like muted colours.

I do like boden too - but the more subtle stuff.

I do feel though that i'm a bit lost clothes wise - at 36 realising too old for topshop but too young for most of hobbs etc.

Off to google noa and avoca now.

nkf · 07/09/2008 21:40

Hobbs is safe and sometimes you need that. Depends on your line of work really. It's reasonably priced corporate clothes. Not meant to be fun or glamorous. Straight and good enough quality. Like I said, safe. Whistles is a bit all over the place and it's also way too pricey. I don't get Boden at all. Too many T-shirts and skirts with annoying patterns.

moondog · 07/09/2008 22:10

I wouldn't wear that gear in out of work life, no. Then it is just regular casual gear. I can't see me taking the kids riding in fully accessorised flannel two piece sout, no.

Swedes · 08/09/2008 09:43

I don't like LK Bennett at all. And Coast is dreadful: Oooooh look we need a dress for a night out, let's completely over-design a dress - an assymetrical hem, a frill here, a frill there, a ruffle here, an underskirt, a contrasting undervest. Gah.

bossykate · 08/09/2008 09:50

sorry, janeite, had to read your profile after that rather disparaging reference to the "middle class older mothers" - people in glass houses etc
