Hobbs. I think it is what Boden aspires to but can no longer do.

As you were.

Well I am truly shocked
I thought it was forbidden to slag of boden on here

DoubleBluff · 07/09/2008 16:31

Wish i could afford to shop in those places. HIgh st is what I aspre to. Most of my clothes are Primark/ Peacocks/ Tecso and George,

pointydog · 07/09/2008 16:42

Boden is oft slagged, non? (that was in teh style of prime twunt johnnie)

Bobbiewickham · 07/09/2008 16:49

God, I still love Boden.

I just don't get the 'low-quality' remarks. My stuff from there lasts loads longer than stuff from anywhere else, especially Jigsaw, whose knitwear just falls to pieces, and Gap, whose tshirts you can read a newspaper through.

It's about the only place you can get anything nice, apart from Fat Face.

And my boys were wearing Boden tshirts this summer that they've had for about three years, and they're still like new.

Like I said, I don't get it.

Bringbackmybonnietome · 07/09/2008 16:52

I got a nice work dress from marks and spencers yeserday.

I brown check pinafore with big belt and white shirt attached.

Doesn't sound great but fitted really well for the sexy secretary look.

Bringbackmybonnietome · 07/09/2008 16:54

I like Boden too, but avoid anything that screams BODEN too loudly ie has colourful spots.

maidamess · 07/09/2008 16:55

I think EVERYTHING in that smug catalogue screams Boden. Isn't that what its all about?

Majeika · 07/09/2008 16:55

BUT IF YOU KNEW THE WOMAN WHO OWNS AND DESIGNS FOR HOBBS YOU WOULD AVOID IT LIKE THE PLAGUE!

SHE IS VILE AND HER DH IS VILER!!!!

SilentTerror · 07/09/2008 16:57

I too like Boden but avoid anything too obvious.
Hobbs a bit too corporate for me.
I like White Stuff,Great Plains,Kew online and sale bargains from boutiques that stock Noa Noa,Avoca etc.

ilovemydog · 07/09/2008 16:58

like Hobbs shoes.... in the sales

Bringbackmybonnietome · 07/09/2008 16:58

plian stuff like cardi's, tropusers, plain skirts are pretty good.

imo it's the patterns that scream boden, anything with the word 'fun' in the title/description is to be avoided ie fun skirt. and most patterns but paricuarly spots.

catelogue is nauseting but it passes the time wjilst on the loo.

palaver · 07/09/2008 17:02

The Hobbs stuff looks good for busienss dress.

Bobbiewickham · 07/09/2008 17:03

Oh god, yes, nothing spotty, or fun or god forbid, "sassy".

But the dotty leaf print a-line skirt in dark orange is fab, the tank tops are ace, as are the cardis and the wideleg jeans.

I'd have to join a nudist colony if Boden didn't exist.

And for that, if nothing else, you naysayers should be glad it does.

I like Toast. Costs a bit, though.

Beetroot · 07/09/2008 17:07

these are bloody gorgeous

Bobbiewickham · 07/09/2008 17:09

I was sorting out my garage recently and came across a Boden catalogue from about 10 years ago.

God, it was rank. Just a load of elasicated waisted leisure wear and "boiled wool" skirt and jumper sets.

Believe it or not, I bought one of the above items to wear for work.

I was 24 [what was I thinking emoticon]

Bridie3 · 07/09/2008 17:10

Lovely boots, Beetroot!

Soapbox · 07/09/2008 17:12

I love the black patent ones on there Beety - might have to go and flash some cash at Bluewater tomorrow

Beetroot · 07/09/2008 17:20

yes the black patent ones - I want them

twinsetandpearls · 07/09/2008 17:23

I love shoes from Hobbs and buy the odd bit of workwear from there. Have a lovely suit I bought for a wedding that sadly no longer fits.

ahundredtimes · 07/09/2008 17:29

Hobbs and new-look Whistles are supposed to be the 'in' shop. I still like Jigsaw, just as expensive, probably worse quality, but have design kinks and flourishes I like.

Beetroot · 07/09/2008 17:31

not sure I like Whistles anymore - they used to great.

Jigsaw has come back again recently

I really like them

Infact I think I may go to bath next week and have a look!
