I'm finding it hard to see anything for my dd (6) to wear to school (i.e. washable) to keep her warm and beautiful this winter. Any ideas?

Next have some really lovley ones in at mo - have a look on line!

imaginaryfriend · 31/08/2008 23:43

I have looked in Next Oxford Street today and online but I couldn't see any that weren't super puffy. My dd is a very slim build and she gets lost in that kind of coat.

Bodens duffle is lovely but pricey. Want it for DD 8 but she wants an unsuitble black thing from tammy at BHS- theres gonna be ructions!

highschoolmusical · 31/08/2008 23:48

Sleepycat,

That is really sweet. She will wear loads!

notsoteenagemum · 31/08/2008 23:49

Also don't know about washability.

Sleepy cat that is a nice coat.

I like the really traditional navy ones - do they call them Princess coats? My dd would love a pink one though for sure!

TheDuchessOfNork · 31/08/2008 23:54

The Boden duffle coat is dry clean only. I've just bought the grey one (the lining is bright pink btw, I thought it looked red in the book).

They do last though, DD1 had a navy one for 2 or 3 years which I've now passed onto DD2.

imaginaryfriend · 31/08/2008 23:55

sleepycat, no good for dd as only goes up to age 4-5, plus it doesn't look washable. I've learned that that's a key component to a school coat!

Duchess whats the sizing like? DD is 8 but tall and skinny usually buy her age 10 but want it to last.

Flum · 01/09/2008 00:02

The pink Next one is machine washable.

Classic winter coats for girls anyone? John Lewis? Mothercare? Can't bear anything in Barbie pink or with anything faux fur on it., eugh

TheDuchessOfNork · 01/09/2008 00:03

notso - DD1 is nearly 7 and the age 7-8 fits her, with a bit of growing space and length in the sleeve. She's quite tall for her age and and slim.

imaginaryfriend · 01/09/2008 00:03

Flum, I wouldn't get the pink one for dd for school even if it were in her size, it's just not appropriate for the amount of clambering around she does.

MMMM just looked at them. Nice ish. not exactly what I am imagining. something outof Enid Blyton I think.

imaginaryfriend · 01/09/2008 00:11

I like that M&S swing coat, but can't work out if it's washable, probably not. I might go down there and take a look though tomorrow. I think the largest size 5-6 might fit dd as she's so narrow.

Thanks Duchess.
Imaginary forgot to mention Millets don't know what you like but we've had good coats from there in the past not just outdoorsy types either.
