I'm finding it hard to see anything for my dd (6) to wear to school (i.e. washable) to keep her warm and beautiful this winter. Any ideas?

I didn't see anything in Zara today that was suitable.

twinset do you approve I only went in for sheets and ended up waiting ages while DD swooned over impractical outfits. Thats BHS and New look I can only go in alone now.

imaginaryfriend · 01/09/2008 00:16

I haven't tried Millets, not sure dd would be that keen, but we do have a Decathlon nearby, I should try there.

I went in for sheets too and ended up with DD doing the same! I allowed her to get some jewellery as i know she will loose it.

twinsetandpearls · 01/09/2008 00:31

THat is sad about the marks coat only going up to 5-6. I want a red coat for dd as she has red in her uniform.

IllegallyBrunette · 01/09/2008 00:38

I got Dd2 a lovely dusky pink coat from Zara for £15. They also do it in Cream, Brown and Khaki.

Looks lovely on, and nice and snug.

negril · 01/09/2008 00:48

sleepy cat i dont think the coat looks practical for school.

nappyaddict · 01/09/2008 03:12

this grey one is nice

gorgeous

depends if you like pink?

might be a bit young?

nappyaddict · 01/09/2008 03:19

twinset - here's a red one

notsoteenagemum · 01/09/2008 07:36

Nappyaddict I would class all those next coats lovely but COMPLETELY impractical for school

Charlee · 01/09/2008 07:55

If you are on a budget then they have some lovley girls and boys winter coats in Store 21/QS for £5. I got both my boys one and they are warm and seem good quality for the price.

imaginaryfriend · 01/09/2008 09:43

notso, I would agree, not suitable for school. The wool will get really bobbly and they all need to be dry-cleaned. They're lovely for weekends and out of school though.

any other finds?

EachPeachPearMum · 01/09/2008 10:55

The best ones for warmth are the down-filled ones that Gap do- I think they're called 'Gap Warmest Coat' or something similar.

They are really toasty- and look like a ski jacket. AFAIK they go up to the size you need, but DD is still a tiddler.

They are expensive (£40 for age 2-3) but they are fully washable, the warmest thing I've found, plus have great resale value on ebay- they go 2nd/3rd hand for 20odd quid- was looking this week, and they are already going for that much.

imaginaryfriend · 01/09/2008 11:27

I'll check those out, thanks.

Any others?

OP posts:
nappyaddict · 01/09/2008 11:54

any of these?

imaginaryfriend · 01/09/2008 11:57

I like that berry red one actually. Might go to Debenhams to check it out in fact. Thanks! They're a touch pricey but if it's good and it lasts a year that's ok.

savoycabbage · 01/09/2008 12:00

I have got a fleece lined coat from Boben and I think thet are great but I don't think that they are warm enough for a winter coat if you are going to school. They are outside for a while at lunchtime.

I like the GAP warmest coats too. And John Lewis usually has warm coats that cover their bums and have a zip etc.

My DD gets quite cold.

Oliveoil · 01/09/2008 12:01

hello IF, how is dd? Is she looking forward to going into Y1. DD1 a bit pensive (nothing new there) but I think she will be better this year (nothing could be worse than last eh?)

best coats ever imo are Gap parka coats

we get them every year for dd1 and dd2 has the one from the previous

down inside so v warm, can be washed and go in the dryer

about £40+ so not sure of your price range but in our case we get 2 years+ out of them

your dd is tall iirc and dd1 has to get a size 8yr or so

will try and link

imaginaryfriend · 01/09/2008 12:26

Hello OO! nah, dd not at all keen on the prospect of returning to school, she changes the subject whenever I mention it in fact. The change of teacher, different kids in her class etc. will really throw her for a while so I'm anticipating some tears and grumbles although hoping I'll be pleasantly surprised.

I'll check out the Gap coats. I'm slightly apprehensive about the down inside as dd still has such a lot of allergies and can't sleep on feather pillows. Would that matter do you think?

OP posts:
Oliveoil · 01/09/2008 13:34

not sure re allergies, dd1 had one last year that didn't have down in (which we discovered AFTER we had bought it grrrr) so you may be able to get different ones

imaginaryfriend · 01/09/2008 13:47

I will try there anyway, I had a look in a small branch but there was nothing really there.

How are things with you guys generally?

OP posts:
imaginaryfriend · 01/09/2008 15:21

any more offers?

OP posts:
EachPeachPearMum · 01/09/2008 20:03

IF Umm- DD has allergies/eczema, and hasn't had any problems with the Gap down jackets she has had. She never has a problem with our goose down duvet either though.
The coats are really cosy. DD gets cold very easily, but never has in one of those coats.

imaginaryfriend · 01/09/2008 21:41

Maybe your dd isn't allergic to feathers? Mine is, when we stay at MIL where there's feather duvets and pillows she always gets asthma.
