What does one wear in Paris at the end of August?

Going to Paris for 3 days, end of Aug with DH who will be working. Since I will be spending the days on my own, wandering around the city, I don't want to stick out like a sore thumb. Any tips on what to wear and, more importantly, what NOT to wear?

Also any tips on where a laydee should go to entertain herself would be very gratefully received. First time in Paris in about 10 years and that was a business trip so didn't get to see much then!

Parisian women like a more mature look so don't wear anything funky or anything fashionanble by UK standards and you should be fine.

Oh god, what DOES one wear in Paris these days in August,lol.

Don't be intimidated! DP and I were in Paris 12 months ago and I didn't think Parisian women were better dressed than women here.
Second the suggestions above. For places to go: Musee d'Orsay is fantastic, pyramid at the Louvre, Montmartre, Tuilleries. Have a brilliant time!

hmm a good tan, that was what I was lacking in Paris in August, me and dh really stood out, we almost looked blue.

skinny jeans, flats (for day) stripey tee (ls or ss) with a tailored jacket/ light cardi and a scarf tied around the neck.

Go to the flea markets at Porte de Clignancourt, also have a good wander around the St Germain, lovely shops and art galleries.

Hang out in the Luxembourg Gardens with a good book & just look up from time to time to take it all in. Heaven!!

Yes it will be hot. But could rain too so take an umbrella.

Bear in mind that a lot of things are closed in August so look up before you go (although last week might be ok).

Comfy shoes for walking around lots (but not American tourist style in baggy shorts and trainers!)

Otherwise just dress as you would for London I would say (I always dress up a bit for London compared to the depths of Normandy ).

Thank you for all the advice. And yes, cod, I know people will have better things to look at than me but just don't want to feel uncomfortable with all the beautiful people! Probably being a bit paranoid.

So the beret and string of onions are out then?

DH has been there this week and says temps have hit 35+. So something along the lines of stripey t with skirt and pumps. Like this but with short sleeves and without the ugly shoes! Or is that too contrived?

Thanks for all the tips of where to go, also. Stargazing - had envisaged myself sitting somewhere with a good book. Now, what to read...

Oh god stripey tee-shirts.

Parisians mostly wear them when "in the country" along with their petit bateau raincoats.

Just a nice top will be fine.

Haven't got any grown-up open toed shoes. Either flip lop style or wedges.

What you mean you dont own a pair of crocs or croc look-alikes! Can you walk all day in your wedges?? We went to London in OCt and did about 5 miles walking in a day, and I had my heeled mules on (not quite a wedge) and was really comfy.

You will have a fab time sans kiddies I am sure!!

I have just been in Paris and it was baking! I typically wore white shorts, with a t-shirt or strap top, funky belt, gladiator sandals and big shades and didn't feel like I stuck out at all.

Andy - just because I live in that part of the world does not mean I have stooped to the level of some of my neighbours. We are a croc-free household. [opens window and shouts out loud, then realises she is at her mothers where neighbours will be delighted to hear that we haven't been overrun with large reptiles]!
