What does one wear in Paris at the end of August?

Going to Paris for 3 days, end of Aug with DH who will be working. Since I will be spending the days on my own, wandering around the city, I don't want to stick out like a sore thumb. Any tips on what to wear and, more importantly, what NOT to wear?

Also any tips on where a laydee should go to entertain herself would be very gratefully received. First time in Paris in about 10 years and that was a business trip so didn't get to see much then!

TIA

i think you should wear british national dress - velour pink tracksuit with thong showing and a pair of crocs. if you have time get a tramp stamp.

LynetteScavo · 07/08/2008 13:35

Nobody who is anyobody is in Paris during August, so it really doesn't matter what you wear.

Jaamy · 07/08/2008 13:35

Nope, no pink velour tracksuit, either. Am I terribly unfashionable?

Ewe - don't think my legs will stand up to white shorts and glads.

Thanks Lynette. I shall have the city to myself. Not best planning I know but that's when DH has to go out and I thought I'd take advantage keep him company.

grab yourself this dress
I just bought one and think it is one of the nicest things I have ever bought. Am wearing white flips flops and tan leather belt. Should keep you nice and cool in the Paris heat.

HaventSleptForAYear · 07/08/2008 17:33

But you would look v. strange in France in it.

.. I think anyway! Never seen anything like that here and is actually just the sort of thing I meant by ultratrendy.

Looks fairly unforgiving - is it? I am size 8-10 but still wouldn't dare.

Stargazing · 07/08/2008 17:36

trendy? not at all. Just a sundress, dime a dozen in Paris.
not that I am an expert, but I go there every 2 months or so, my best friend lives there (she is from Paris, born and bred and YES, often wears a neck scarf)

not unforgiving, very flattering. Each to their own though.

HaventSleptForAYear · 07/08/2008 17:39

Well you would know more than me about Paris then

Agree about the neck scarves - they are rife - doesn't mean you have to go for one but you won't look out of place if you really want to !

Glad the dress is good Stargazing - wasn't trying to criticize - it just looked short and low-cut to me and I am bad at wearing things like that.

Stargazing · 07/08/2008 17:53

blimey not at all. Knee length and decent boob coverage. I have fugly knees so short is a massive no no.

especially in paris!!!!

HaventSleptForAYear · 07/08/2008 17:59

Should have looked better then. Sorry !

Jaamy · 07/08/2008 20:17

Thanks stargazing, however boobage and scaffold-like bras mean I can't wear anything strappy.
