and I have nothing to wear and no clue where to start looking. Pre-kids my look was a bit rock-chicky, but everything is now several sizes too small, and my boobs are now a 36H so don't fit into anything smaller than an 18. The rest of me is about a 16, I'm 5ft 9, short dark hair, blobby tummy but half-decent legs - dearest style mavens please point me in the direction of something I won't look an absolute berk in.

Oh, and because it's all a bit last-minute fast mail-order is fine, otherwise I'm stuck with the high-street...

Hi, i've just startes a similar thread.

http://www.asos.com/Asos/Asos-Ivory-Coast-Printed-Chiffon-Strap-Dress/Prod/pgeproduct.aspx?iid=28141 5&cid=5186&clr=Black&sh=0 How about this???

I love the shoes that model has on or you could wear thick black tights with Mary Jane style shoes like these

Thanks so much - I just read your thread!

There's a very do-able and flattering-looking dress on Fat Face which I immediately fell in love with - and which is of course completely sold out.

Something like that would be great - it's casual enough that I could wear it in the day too - and given that this will be my first night out in such a long time, it's probably a good idea to get something I might get a bit more wear out of.

As straight-forward as a dress would be, I'd be happy in trews/jeans with some kind of a fab top for comfort's sake - and while I can do heels in a pinch, I'm normally in flats. A friend of mine just pried me into her wedges though and I have to admit they were remarkably comfortable - maybe that's an idea.

Just dreading the thought of cluelessly trawling the high street with a one year-old in tow!

Kittenloren - that dress is gorgeous. This one is quite similar

Can't believe it - went to the new FF that has just opened near us this morning on the off-chance, and they not only had it in my size, they had it in EVERY size!

So panic over on the dress front, now just need shoes & jewels - and possibly a belt, as it dress is slightly less dressy than it looks in the pic & will need a bit of va-voom!
